  1. another jobs for the boys appointment

Is it? Or is it a job for someone who has vast experience of Scottish football, this league, this club, our squad and oppositions squads?

I can't see how it is a bad thing for someone with such an affinity with the club to be kept around. If it was just a 'jobs for the boys' appointment then Faddy would have been kept on. Robinson obviously feels Lasley is a much better option.

  2. I was just going by this post.

If this is the case then season 2017/18 looks like it will be the same as 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17 where the manager fails to bring in a creative midfielder and pays the price for it.

Given Robinson's style of football at Oldham and with us there is a question mark about his ability to get us playing football. An attacking midfielder should have been the first priority.

Is Tanner not an attacking midfielder?

For all we know Bigirimana could be the Burundian Pirlo.

  3. From what I've read on here and by flow, is that we've agreed to sign the player which means he's not allowed to talk to other clubs and then he'll come with us for pre season and once he's fit we will announce it

"effectively agreed" are the words he used. I'd imagine if the player can't make it through pre-season and a medical then he'll be dumped.

I know lots of people are desperate for the next 5 signings to be announced ASAP, but to have 5 (6 if we're including this defender) signed before the middle of June is fantastic work. Especially if you consider we only knew we were going to be in this division exactly 4 weeks ago. We've a month until our first competitive game, 7.5 weeks until our first league game and the best part of 3 months until the transfer window shuts. Tonnes of time for some wheeling and dealing!

  4. Really not concerned about Lasley triggering an extra year. I'd imagine his extension would've been triggered by a number of appearances (and Lasley made over 30 appearances last season because he was one of our best, if not our actual best, central midfielders).

With the way our midfield is shaping up currently, it is going to be very inexperienced (Elliot Frear the old head at 26...). Lasley being about to occasionally make a sub appearance when we're needing to dig in will be no bad thing.

It wouldn't surprise me if he turns out to be our new assistant manager/player. If not I'm sure he'll get more involved with the under 20's coaching.

  5. As you say, we need "journeymen" who know the league and are proven in it to an extent. We can't take a punt on English non-league players every time.

Exactly. For every Louis Moult there is a Wes Fletcher, a Ryan Bowman and a Jacob Blyth.

Higdon and Sutton were 'journeymen' when they joined, but both scored a fantastic number of goals for us in their spells. If Fisher does half as well as them he'll have done not bad!

  6. Love him. Hard to think of another player who wanted to do well/score/win more than him. He might have moaned like fuck, but that is because he was always expecting perfection from himself and teammates. He's been called petulant many a time for his moans at refs and their decisions, but he does that because he wants what's best for him and the team. A quality player and an even better influence. I'd describe him as a 'winner'.

  7. Thats just the Spice of Life Stand and not the Gazebo. If everyone behaves themselves and sticks to their allotted seats then there should be no problem but I can't see that happening. Hopefully stewards would step in to defuse matters.

I'd imagine it'll be a bit of a free for all. The Bois will likely congregate at the end closest to the main stand regardless of seat numbers. If they're likely to add a lot of noise and colour then they should batter in

  8. In my opinion, the big issue with Lasley this season has been that when he does harry and chase down, he's not able to get back into position quickly enough, and others he's played with (Clay, Lucas, Pearson) haven't covered for him effectively. Yes, he's slowed down a lot, but if he's covered properly can still be an asset to the team.

Absolutely. He might not always be able to get back into position in time, but at least he knows where the position is! Anyone who was at Firhill the other week will have witnessed how much better Lasley is than Clay. He's still our best midfielder in my opinion.

  9. Maybe a tad over ambitious but if he continues his good form do you think Dicky Tait could have a chance of reaching Scotland squad?. Loads of left back but lacking at right back. Only Paterson and Anya there and Anya more of an attacking midfielder.

No. While he has played well for us this season, he's never going to be able to play at that level. Unfortunately his lack of pace would be exploited a whole lot worse and more often at that level

  10. I really like Mark McGhee. Even if he wasn't Motherwell manager, I'd still really like Mark McGhee. I don't find him arrogant or egotistical at all, to the point where I'm not sure where people are getting such extreme evidence of it.

I must admit that I'm the same. McGhee is far from the perfect manager (some of his tactical ideas and team selections can be mind-boggling) but he will get it right eventually, and has done each season he has been with us. I trust him.

With regards to his 'off-the-field' ability, I just find him to be quite...honest (other than when he talks transfers etc.). A lot of people seemingly don't like what he says, but he does just speak his mind, and probably doesn't care what any of the posters on Steelmen Online think of it. I'd much rather he says something truthful (and possibly offend/annoy me) than just roll out the same old cliches that we normally hear before/after every single game.

  11. If I remember right all the players who have done the signing zone previously have been injured/suspended/not in squad so presumed that would be the same today.

I think you're right, however it would end up being the same culprits every week if that's all it was going to be. I'm not sure of the players' pre-match routine but I'd imagine they could take half an hour from 12.45 to 13.15 out no bother

  12. I'd like Cadden in the Pearson role, with Mchugh and one of Clay/Lasley sitting.

Likewise. I've been reading a lot of comments about us needing a like for like replacement for Pearson and I think we already have one in Cadden. He's fit, strong and we've seen him make lung-bursting runs up the park (with or without the ball) almost every week. As well as I think he has done playing on the right I don't think he's an out and out winger.

For what it's worth, I think Clay has looked decent when he's played and I'm sure he'll be more effective as the weeks go by. A midfield 3 of Cadden, McHugh and Clay could become quite effective even if it's not the most 'creative' or penetrating.

  13. That's a comment I picked up on. Found it particularly interesting as McGhee previously stressed the club had done their due diligence into the characters of the players when Blyth, Tait and Heneghan were unveiled.

I'm not sure if people are maybe reading too much into this comment. I certainly thought it came across as a joke as if to say he's a bit daft or something.
