  1. Honestly think Murray would be a decent signing, always looks dangerous running in behind at pace. Think he has a bit better ability than some are making out. I'm a Bowman fan but if you compare the two do we really think he is much better than Murray technically? I agree that we shouldn't be spending alot of money on anyone though. I'm not totally against Nadir coming back if it's on a low wage but there seems to be a lot of fans wearing rose coloured glasses with him. He was shite in a lot of games last season. Yes he got a few goals but he was still often lazy and unfit. There is potential there but let's not pretend he was some sort of revelation, he wasn't.
  2. Surprised at the Nadir chat. From Robinson's interview I took from it that we wouldn't be offering him anything because of his fitness. I presume now what he meant was that he wants a pre-season with him and is offering him a deal. I'm not convinced he is the striker we need but if he is going to come in on a fairly standard wage I can understand it. I'm not as anti-Nadir as some but I genuinely do think he is a lazy type of player regardless of how fit he is. I don't he willl ever play the way the likes of Bowman etc plays and perhaps the way Robbo wants us to play but could be a more useful different option this season if fit.
  3. I don't think we should let the final cloud our judgement on Bigi. He done well on Saturday and is clearly a techincally gifted footballer but the style we play and the league up here does not suit him at all. He hasn't met expectations when given the chance and we should look to move him on. Bigi will be on a decent wage which can be better spent elsewhere. Overall if we keep the squad we have just now (unlikely) I would be looking for: Left wing back - I think this is essential. Pace and someone that can defend would be fab. Centre back - Retain Aldred or find replacement Centre mid - We need someone of genuine quality in the middle of the park to help our combative players. Offloading Bigi should free up money for this. Striker - One who can compete with Bowman and chip in up front. Still lacking goals in this team. Creative mid - Someone in the Tanner mould with a bit more pace and quality would be nice. Realistically I predict Carson will be away. Apart from that I'm not convinced any of our other key players will be away. Kipre and Cadden will be here another year I think. If we can add better quality in the above positions and give Turnbull, Maclean and Maguire a chance in the first team squad I think we can realistically challenge for the top six. I would much rather we tried to bring in 4 higher paid/quality players and give the young guys a chance than bring in bigger numbers. I don't think there is any need to try to 'replace' the likes of Plummer, Demi and Hendrie. Let the young guys fill these slots. If we could bring in 3/4 new first team players I would be really pleased.
  4. I think football in this country could be priced better but I genuinely don't think a big reduction in ticket prices would make THAT much of a difference. I've got numerous mates that were there on Saturday who are Motherwell supporters and have plenty of cash to go every week. It does my head in but normal answers from them when I ask them to go on a Saturday is they simply can't be arsed or they are doing a variety of others things. Regardless of the product on the park and the price I still don't think they would go every week. They might go a wee bit more but in terms of a jump in numbers I don't think it would be significant. If you look at the years recently where we got very high in the league the crowd didn't increase that much. There is a pool of people from Saturday say 9/10k maybe genuine Motherwell supporters who weren't going due to the day out or another family member dragging them along. From that pool there is some that go every week then the majority who go occasionally and semi regularly at different times. Similar to fans of bigger clubs there is folk that class themselves as Motherwell fans who don't go for every week for whatever reason. It just so happens there is vastly more of some other clubs numbers wise. I'd love more folk to go and i appreciate the club and anyone elses ideas to increase attendance but i've pretty much accepted the likelihood is we aren't going to see a great jump in numbers given they have remained roughly the same for the last 30 years
  5. Let's not beat about the bush here. We shat the bed big time first half. Didn't do what we are good at. Our main assets this seasosn has been, pressing, winning 2nd balls and competing. We done none of that and that's how Celtic demolished us without getting out of 2nd gear. Celtic actually outfought us. I'm still mwi but I'm pretty sure we didn't play our normal system at times today, Cadden was central at points for example. Didn't go well for him. 2nd half was good to see some fight but was too little too late. As for fan observations these sorts of occasions will and have always attract hangers on from the other side of the old firm. I've seen this manifest itself from both sides but self policing usually does the job (as it did today) I'll be honest I'm not a huge fan of the whole cheering the players off regardless of result thing but I can understand it after the second half display. In the cold light of day this has been a class season. It's just a bit disappointing that we didn't create that special moment. I do genuinely wonder when and if we will see another trophy win but I guess it's just part of the ride
  6. It's interesting you say that. I actually thought Tait has played much better on the left-hand side despite being right footed. I was a big critic of his defending earlier in the season but I must admit I was wrong and he has really pushed on since then. I can't remember when but there was a game or two where he switched to the left hand side and it was night and day. For me, he has been better since this switch. Perhaps it just concided with his performances getting better but that was my observations at the time. I take your point though as I can see us looking at the LWB position as a priority for next season over Elliot Frear. Tait moving back to RWB would be a fit in that case but depends what happens with Cadden. I'm still not convinced we get the best out of him in the RWB position.
  7. Really enjoyed attending the BBC Sportsound thing last night, woke up this morning absolutely buzzing for Saturday. The thing that I love about Robinson most is his confidence. He really does believe we can win. This transmits to the players and fans. I am now convinced we are going to do it! The build up for this has been huge and there has been a big difference compared to the League Cup. Everyone is talking about this game. I think think the team picks itself. Only change I could see is Rose for Grimshaw. I don't think this will happen though given Rose fitness and Grimshaws form. I do like Rose for his height and legs in midfield but I'm not sure you can take Grimshaw out the team at the moment. Carson Kipre Aldred Dunne Cadden Campbell McHugh Grimshaw Tait Bowman Main In terms of changes we have Rose , Frear and Turnbull as good options in midfield. Bit limited in what we can do up front but hopefully Main will do the damage. 2-1, It's time Motherwell!
  8. Is this not the boy that was slagging us off and was outed as an Accies fan with an agenda? Seems like they have done their research on football manager
  9. Is it just Club 100 that is restricted to 'bus only' customers? Just wondering if other pubs will all be fine to go into pre and post match?
  10. Saturday was brilliant, couldn't have hoped for much better tbh. Key players rested, youngsters showed their worth and some great football was played. I was really impressed by Turnbull, Maguire and Maclean. I really hope they are given a chance next season to properly emerge. I genuinely think we could cut some fat from the squad and let these guys push through to the first team. There is something really satisfying about seeing young guys push through. I also thought we played more football than a lot of games this season. I appreciate that these are one-off games and I might be a bit biased because they are young Scottish boys but I think these guys are more deserving of a chance rather than the likes of Demi and Newell etc. In terms of pure technical ability the young guys coming through seem to be a better standard than some of the boys brought up from down south. I guess perhaps our playing style sometimes prefers raw attributes over ball skills sometimes. It's really encouraging to see the likes of Turnbull come through and looks to be really gifted on the ball. It was really good to see a positive crowd through too, gave the players a great send-off for the final.
  11. Hoping there will be a decent turn out tomorrow, last game before the final against our local rivals fingers crossed some of the other 9k from the final can make it along I don't think this game is as meaningless as some think. A good win going into next week definitely wouldn't hurt confidence. In saying that I'd rest a few key guys, however i still think we are capable of a result.. I'd go Carson Maguire Aldred Dunne Maclean Bigi Campbell Turnbull Frear Bowman Ciftci
  12. To be honest I think there are some valid points about McHugh here. Regardless of what side of the debate you are I think the majority of us can agree that he has a couple of things that he needs to improve upon - stop taking so much time on the ball and getting caught in possession - increase the quality of his distribution Everything else he does pretty well IMO and the majority of the games he does the above okay but I think a lot of fans have just seen SO many games where he doesn't do one of the above well hence the criticism. I have noticed that some fans like to go criticise him quicker than others but I suppose fans will always have that sort of approach. One thing I will note is I have seen us on a few occasions appear to miss him holding us together in the middle of the park when he was not present. One exception to that rule ofcourse is the semi-final but I am of the mind that we are a better team with Carl in the side than without him. Overall with Saturday I don't really buy in to the 'freak result' interview Robbo gave. I understand he doesn't want to go through the team given the circumstances of the upcoming final but I'd rather he just gave fair analysis on the match rather than writing the game off. It's happened a few times this season and its not as if our league form has been dazzling, defending like this isn't a one off. To be clear, I wasn't overly bothered by Saturday's result I think it's simply an indication that the players have their head in the final and that our strength in depth isn't quite as good as we have made out. Personally though I'd rather the game was just analysed more specifically or a question mark was made of the players focus rather than simply writing the game off entirely. I'm quite optimistic we will put in a more focused display tonight. You'd like to think the squad is playing for places after all.
  13. Just a heads up anyone picking up there tickets from telephone sales ive just been told they don't actually allocate your seat until later in the day ie after everyone else buys theres. So when they asked on the phone if you have a preference on seating there's little chance you will get anywhere near it. For example I asked for nearer the front minutes after the tickets went on sale and got the very back row. Lol.. Also was charged for 8 tickets but given 7, so now I have someone sitting in a completely different section. Accidents happen but pretty vexing. Roll on ticketmaster
  14. Zero buzz.. Really? If you can't enjoy being a fan at this time I don't know when you can. I've not seen our support so buzzing in a while. The great thing is most fans i've spoken to have faith in the team to pull off an upset (as do i) This is far from being a foregone conclusion. It's crazy how far we have come in a year, we have the possibility of winning a Scottish cup and playing in Europe next year.. enjoy it
  15. Good result today, wasn't classic stuff but really pleased with the victory. I thought we controlled things for the most part until Campbell came off, we seemed to change the shape and it didn't suit us. Buzzing for Kipre to get his first goal, thought him and Charles Dunne were class. Encouraged by the young boy up front, hold up play was good for the most part. Hopefully Bowman is okay looked like he got a sore one. Let's keep the momentum going until the final. Neil McCann truly is a wee prick, everytime he loses he seems to be involved in some sort of drama. McGowan the same as he did at dens park in the last game spat the dummy out
  16. Secured my tickets over the phone, said pick up will be next week. Anyone done this before? My sceptisism is making me doubt how flawless this booking/collection process is ha
  17. If he would take a massive wage reduction to put him on parity with a squad player I would take Miller in a heartbeat. I suspect he has made his money and just wants another season playing some football. He is very fit and still has a lot to offer. Always good for a goal and the experience he could pass on would be great. In saying that I think he will have other offers. On the Kipre topic we will be lucky to have him for much longer and should enjoy him while we can. The boy is still only 21 and is destined for bigger things, the fact we have tied him down for another year is excellent business. I can see him going directly to the EPL/Ligue 1 in the next season or so if we continues on his current trajectory. If he can element mistakes (which are to be expected at this age) his physicality and technique puts him beyond MLS/EFL level club IMO. As sad as it will be to see him leave it's going to be exciting to see what level he can reach.
  18. One of my favourite days as a well fan. The boys were all tremendous. Couldn't have asked for a better result. Curtis Main has proven to be an outstanding signing. His compusure for the 3rd goal was excellent. Other special mentions go to Grimshaw, Rose and Campbell who all really stepped up and worked tirelessly. Regardless of what happens in the final this season has brought some of my favourite memories in quite some time. Robinson has really gave us a team we can be proud of
  19. Not really buying all the 'low key' chat. It's not often we get to Hampden and I'm buzzing tonight. We have a real chance tomorrow. Team: Carson Kipre Aldred Dunne Tait Campbell Rose Cadden Frear Main Bowman I appreciate the points regarding Ciftci's quality but he's done very little in a Motherwell shirt to prove he merits a place ahead of Bowman. To me, Bowman and Main have worked reasonably well together. Bigi is a possibility tomorrow but as good as he is technically I think this game would pass him by like the majority of the season has. We need to have a game plan against McKenna and co as in the last encounter they had our front line in their back pocket.
  20. Well done to the club excellent business. Looks like we are going to keep the nucleus of this team together. If we can add a wee bit in the summer I will be really confident. Kipre's extension in particular could result in is receiving big money down the road if he continues to develop.
  21. Tough week? Your lack of reading abilities is enough for me to consider your response bullshit. If you care to read, I mentioned Hartley could be in there ahead of Aldred. It's a case of either or really. Both have been excellent. Gordon's game time has been limited, but what I have seen of him in the first team hasn't been great. Don't have any strong feelings on it though he's only 19 and has had limited game time
  22. Offload: Andy Rose - I'd be inclined to let him go, been okay but think we could get better. Liam Grimshaw - I'd let him go, he's not going to get first team football here. Ryan Bowman - Sign up for another 2 years. Have never really got the flack he gets. He is limited but what he does he does well. A lot of his work goes unnoticed upfront. Deimantas Petravicius - Let go. He will not be in professional football for much longer Charles Dunne - New 2 year deal. He has proved me wrong and has really improved since the start of the year. Russell Griffiths - Keep, fine for sub Ellis Plummer - Bye Shea Gordon - Let go, never going to get first team football here. George Newell - Let go, don't see what Robinsons sees in him Gael Bigirimana - Need to try and move on. Talented but the scottish game is far too quick for him. Doesn't suit him Luke Watt - Let go Loan deals ending: Stephen Hendrie (Southend). - Jury's out, doesn't look great at the moment. Nadir Ciftci (Celtic) - Let go, he has talent but i'm not sure our style suits him. Still struggling fitness wise too Tom Aldred (Bury) - Sign up, been huge since he's come up here. The complete no nonsense defender. Next year i'd have two systems, I don't think we have been adaptable enough at times this season as the game during the week demonstrated 3-5-2 4-4-2 Carson Carson Kipre Aldred Dunne Tait Kipre Aldred LB Cadden Campbell CM McHugh LWB Cadden Campbell McHugh LM Main ST Main ST Wish list: 2 new strikers, 1 left wing back/left back, 1 left mid, 1 new centre mid Bench: Griffiths, Hartley, LB/CM, Tanner, Maclean, Frear, Bowman/ST Hartley could be in there ahead of Aldred but I'm just going on current form. Both are excellent. For me a quality striker, left wing back and centre mid are essential. Easier said than done but I'm hoping we will sign a higher calibre of technical ability as we have a solid base of workman like based players there.
  23. I think a few are going a bit over the score here in regards to overall performance. Tuesday night was an awful match and pretty much summed up Aberdeen and their ability to scrap out 3 points against the 'lesser' teams in the league. Contrary to BBC Scotland's opinion I thought they were pretty much as bad as us for periods of the first half. We were awful yes and it isn't as 'unlike us' as Robinson made out but I think we need to look at things as a whole this season. If you had offered any of us 7th in the league, a League cup final and a Scottish Cup semi-final we would have bitten your hand off. I understand our form has been pretty bad and the product on the park not the best but a bit of perspective is required. This time last year we were down 5-1 at home to Dundee and were having to endure Zak Jules and co. We have come a long way since that time. Robinson has put a team on the park who will compete, are hungry and will work tirelessly for the fans. Clearly we need to improve drastically if we are to progress against Aberdeen but the potential is there. You only need to look at the Celtic game and first half against Rangers to see that. Yes we need to improve our consistency but the target was to avoid relegation and we have achieved that. Hopefully we can hold on to the majority of this squad and add some players with greater technical ability for next season. Top 6 would have been nice but give me 2 trips to Hampden over that any day.
  24. Going to be interesting to see how we play with a back 4. Not sure we will be as effective, the players are really used to the 352 system . Dinner is a big loss, he's been a stand out the past few months. Fingers crossed we can cope
  25. Glad to see the back of that international nonsense. Looking forward to this one off the back of our tremendous last outing at Fir Park. I'd go with exactly the same team and approach as last time. If we play with the same effort and application we will beat them. Rangers record away from home is actually very good but they are still pretty vunerable defensively. I back Bowman and Main to ruffle up their backline. All we need is for someone to add a bit of quality which we have lacked in the final third at some points this season. Regardless of the result Top 6 is pretty much gone, despite this I think the players are going to be well up for the next few games with the Cup semi-final coming up. Cliche perhaps but everyone is fighting for places.
