  1. Pleased we have got a left back in relatively early, hopefully he is good enough to replace Hammell in the first team. Not bowled over by his record and his injury list but fingers crossed he is can do us a job. I have seen mixed reports of him online but all have said he does posess pace which is well needed. If we could get an experienced centre back and another striker in I would be quite happy. Hopefully they will come from a better level than this. I am still anxious about the lack of SPFL experience we are going to have with a few old heads giving way i.e Skippy, Lasley etc
  2. I understand we are limited by budget. Off the top of my head I would take Josh Meekings and Paul Quinn for defence on a free before a guy released by Barnet. Even boys from the championship like Sibbald and Hyppolyte from Falkirk have impressed me. All of these guys are out of contract. There is guys of this ilk out there. Don't get me wrong I think the business we have done thus far has been very good. Just would like to see the further recruits come from the Scottish game. We can have a debate about quality differences all day but one thing that is widely agreed upon is the Scottish game does have its differences with England. I would like to see guys already adjusted to compliment our other signings. All personal preference and opinion though
  3. Won't take long to get shot down here but I'm not overly impressed by the quality of the trialists we have. More league 2 / national league players. A few of them very well could turn out to be a Louis Moult but I'd like to see some established Scottish based players where possible
  4. Over the moon with McHugh being appointed captain. Encouraged Robinson seems to be wiping the slate clean. Might be nothing but hoping the description of McHugh as a midfielder in the tweet is an indication that Robison won't be employing him as a centre back this season.
  5. I'm really hoping that Robinson puts a big emphasis on defensive recruitment. IMO we need at least 1 first team centre back and left back. We can't go another season with the same defensive core. Plenty of time yet but hoping we see some recruits in this area from a decent level sooner rather than later. The thought of only Tait Heneghan McManus Hammell at the back again gives me the fear. Tait and Heneghan maybe but not the other two.
  6. No I mean the market where we get players of a higher quality than we can usually afford in on loan deals to enhance the rest of the team. Not sure i need to go through the list of names where this has worked before.
  7. I tend to agree, would be good to get a player of that type of quality in. Not sure if his attitude is the greatest though, heard whispers that he is a wee fanny. Don't think he got on well with folk down at Rotherham either. I think this is the sort of market we should be in. Probably unlikely but GMS or someone like this on loan would be a shout.
  8. Love the home kit, the classic feel the last couple of years has been great. The away one I like also mainly because it's something a bit different
  9. This Andy Rose guy looks like he has a decent pedigree, good few seasons in the MLS. I'm encouraged by the way things are shaping up. Wonder if this could mean a 5 in midfield. Prior to this I was thinking we would shape up something like the below but not sure. Carson Tait Heneghan CB LB McHugh Bigirimana Cadden Tanner Frear Moult I'm really hoping that we see some defenders arrive soon. For me this should be priority. Said this before but if we start another season with the same defence we are in big trouble. We need to invest in a replacement for McManus and someone with some pace at left back as Hammell needs to start on the bench this season. If we can get two first team defenders in and another striker I would be fairly confident for the season ahead. I'm really hopeful McHugh is being put in midfield this year and not staying at the back in a partnership with Heneghan
  10. Please tell me isn't at hampden? Surely bt sport wouldn't decide to broadcast this empty stadium match
  11. Very interesting interview from Skippy. For my generation he is probably one of the better players we have had in terms of ability and service to the club. As much as I like him I can see how he can rub people up the wrong way. Quite an arrogant guy but his confidence in his own ability is perhaps what a lot of Scottish guys are lacking. Bit of a different mindset. I admire his honesty here however and found it interesting him commenting on his relationship with Magoo / Robbo
  12. Relatively pleased with that. Anytime I saw him last season he looked like he had something about him. Decent record in the lower leagues in Belgium, Italy & Spain too. Don't think anyone should expect this is a replacement for Moult but should be better than Blyth and Bowman. Keep in mind we are going to be bringing A LOT of guys in this summer. Some may be playing cameo roles rather than replacing our best players..
  13. Really hopeful we start to see a substantial number of names appear here in the next week or so. Granted we don't want to make deals for the sake of it but given the turnover of players it could take a while for the squad to gel together. It is an exciting change going into a season knowing the team will be entirely different from last. The only big fear I have is what kind of recruitment policy we are taking. IMO our recruitment/scouting in the last couple of years has been pretty poor. We have had some good acquisations but the majority have been pretty woeful. I hope we decide to widen the net past the lower leagues of England. Our budget is buttons but we should still be able to compete with the likes of St Johnstone/Dundee/Partick for established SPL/Div 1 players. To me our recruitment policy seems to have been quite limited for a while. For the most part last year it was either McGhee getting guys from one of his former clubs or the chief scout recruiting from the bottom 2 leagues in England. This might explain our low expenditure on agent fees in comparison with the rest of the SPFL (as someone posted earlier). I am all for keeping money away from agents but unfortunately it might be that it is a necessary evil to recruit quality players in the modern game. This might be particularly important getting foreigns guys into the club. Naturally we will never have a 80/90% sucess rate with signings but in the last year I feel our signings have been lazy and poorly thought out (Lucas, Jules, Samson, Blyth, Pearson etc etc)
  14. I'd like to see a similar home kit as last year, thought had more of a classic feel. Away I would like either plain white/black top
  15. CSKA Sofia offered cash in January and so did a league 1 club. Given where he is in the scoring charts offers are only going to increase this summer. Decent championships are going to be in for him without a doubt. If we get a bid of 500k or anywhere in that ball park we should be rejecting it straight away. If no one comes up with a decent figure he will shine for the first half of the season and we would still command a decent fee in January. The money in the english championship is through the roof at the minute, time to stop bending over and taking fees like this.
  16. If the board only get us 500k for Moult they should be ashamed of themselves. The boy is 25, granted he has one year left on his deal but he is a goalscorer. Pretty mental that we would find this acceptable. We need to change the mentality of just rolling over for hee-haw
  17. As everyone has mentioned this is going to be the biggest rebuilding job in years. I'm actually excited to see what Robinson can put together. As much as it's not the greatest having so many players out of contract it gives us a chance to gut out this squad and start something fresh. With the players we have at the club there are only a few that I would keep in my squad: GK Tait Heneghan CB LB Cadden McHugh CM Frear FW FW Subs GK Hammell McManus Gordon Campbell Ainsworth (reduced wages) FW Edit: Bowman for the bench too Might look drastic but I believe we are going to need atleast 9 bodies in, maybe 10. In defence we need a centre back and a left back. To me keeping the same defensive partnership this season would be seriously flawed. To be honest if we get a bid for Heneghan I would let him go and get two in. Failure to change the leaky defence this year would be suicide. Hammell has been great but it's time for him to drop to bench. Build the midfield around Carl Mchugh and make him captain, to me he is the highest quality player we have at the club. We need someone in next to him with some legs, this has been a big problem for me this season. As well as Campbell has done I think we need a different type of midfielder in there. A 'box to box' midfielder if you will. The main problem for me is upfront. Moult is going to be offskis and Skippy has already confirmed he is away. No idea where we are going to get a couple of strikers of this quality and Robinson is really going to have to pull something out the bag. Hopefully the board plays hard ball with Moult and we get something well north of a million pounds. If we do we need to ensure we reinvest a small amount of this rather than signing dross for nothing. Not been the biggest fan of our scouting over the past couple of years. In my view we need to vastly widen the net. If you look at our signings over the past few years they have been almost exclusive to the lower leagues of England. We have made some good buys down there but we've also had a ton of really bad ones. Financially it's more difficult to sign players from Scotland but I think we should be doing more to look at the first division here and out of contract guys from the Premiership. As well as this we shouldn't be restricting our search only to the UK. Personally I'm looking forward to a change from the old guard, clinging on to the likes of Lasley, Hammell, Pearson and McManus in the first team would be a huge mistake in my book.
  18. Nice the club doing initiatives like this but I think it would have taken a £5/10 PATG entry to have any sort of the impact on crowd numbers. This would have been great given the importance of the game but not sure the fan ownership can swallow this sort of loss in moneys. Hopefully we will see a 4k plus crowd tonight but I'm not optmistic.
  19. Really hoping for a decent turnout tonight to cheer the boys on, we definitely aren't out of the wood yet. To be honest I don't think Hamilton will get anything in Dingwall so I think a positive result could see us safe. Time to grind this out so that we can quickly turn our attention to the complete overall this squad is going to require in the summer. Really hoping Hammell can make this because the prospect of throwing Jules in gives me the fear.
  20. Him and sky sports would do their best to slag off any game within the SPL so I can only imagine how he would have slated this one. Lapping it up no doubt. From what I've seen of accies this season I think this sort of football is a deliberate tactic. Granted we are hardly Brazil ourselves.
  21. Very grim viewing on Saturday but was all about the three points. That park at Hamilton needs binned. Between the park, the poor refereeing and poor quality football it made for one of the worst SPFL games I have seen in a long time. Still far from convinced by the way the team is playing. Thought we defended a lot better on the whole but thought we looked weak on the right hand side with Cadden. Don't think Moult and Skippy are linking up as well as earlier in the season either. It's all about grinding out a result on Tuesday, I truly don't think Accies have it in them to go up to Dingwall and win. Special mention to the fans who turned out on Saturday, terrific support from us.
  22. Bricking it for Saturday to be honest. So much that could be said after Saturday but trying to be positive. Looks like we are going to have a terrific crowd over there so let's get behind the team from the off. I have been really negative towards the team in the last few weeks but any of that on Saturday is just going to make this group of players shit the bed, a lot of them look shot of confidence. Very general long and short of things just now are the players are underperforming and the system isn't working. I strongly believe we need to go back to 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1. Do this and hope the players will seize the occasion Griffiths Ferguson Heneghan Mchugh Hammell Cadden Lasley Pearson (if fit) Frear McDonald Moult We need legs in midfield and as much as I thought Campbell/Lasley played fine last time out they are basically the same player. Cadden is never a right back, Ferguson is from what I am aware? Play players in their positions please. Get the balls to the wingers and get decent service to Moult. This slow build up play doesn't get us anywhere, we need to move the ball quicker and get the ball wide. Mon the well.
  23. The boy is absolutely hopeless, he has made countless mistakes this season and looks like a fish out of water. Due to this he now has no confidence. I would rather play a midfielder in that position before him. Classic case of signing a guy from a championship youth squad that can't cut it at this level. Big and atheltic but zero footballing ability. The boy was playing with Braintree town on loan last year, think that says it all. Scotland U21 not sure how
  24. Agree with the above, no sitting back need to go for it from the off like we did in the ICT game. With that in mind I'd go for the same team and shape. Tempted to put Lasley back in but I think you need Pearson in there for his running so for me its either Pearson and Lasley or Pearson and Campbell, after his 2nd half display Campbell deserves the nod. In terms of the discussion surrounding Bowman, I thought he played well last time out. Adds something we do not have and his workrate is spot on. As much as I like Ainsworth and he done well when he came on he doesn't warrant a start in front of Bowman for me. As has been the case the last few matches a win would be massive here, a draw doesn't really do much. Need big performances from Pearson and Cadden, two guys who haven't been great recently but on their day could be game changers. Fingers crossed.. Samson Heneghan McHugh Hammel Cadden Frear Campbell Pearson Bowman McDonald Moult
