Scottish Premiership Game 13: Aberdeen (A) 18/11/17 15:00
Lukemfc1 replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
Big game, we really want to avoid going into the final on the back of 3 defeats. I'd bite your hand off for a draw at the moment but we are more than capable of winning up there. In terms of the side I would go with as close to the team we are planning for the final as possible: Carson Kipre Hartley Dunne Cadden Bigi McHugh Rose Tait Bowman Moult Campbell was playing during the week so would let him drop out. I know Cadden was too but for me we don't have as much depth in that position. I think we need to get back to doing what we do best rather than trying to change things for the sake of it. Not sure why Bowman was ever dropped but need to get back to the two up front. A decision has to be made about Kipre given recent form but I would be in favour of keeping him in there for his physical abilities and showing some faith in him. I can see both sides of this argument though. Contrary to some I think we need to stick with 2 up front for the final so wouldn't change anything with a view to this. 4-4-2 for the final leaves us short in midfield and 4-5-1 would leave Moult isolated up front. For me, we need to stick with the system that has worked for us. -
Much appreciated, thanks folks

The upcoming cup final has had me thinking. I was born the year after 91 and haven't seen us win anything. A win would mean everything to us all here but even more so to the younger generation that have seen no cup success. Much like the feeling I can imagine most had in 91 after a long wait. Thinking about this has had me looking at our (limited) historical success over the years. A lot of this is covered online but I was wondering if any of you could recommend any historical books that delve into our history in a bit more detail. Stats and figures are great but wondering if there is any with anecdotes, social history, success stories etc. Would be good to learn more about the club pre and post war. There's a few floating about online but wondered if anyone could mention any in particular? Thanks in advance!

All this chat about changing our game to deal with Celtic is the totally wrong mindset in my book. We could change to a 4-5-1 and do what the rest of the league has tried and failed against them or we could play our own game to the best of our abilities and do what we are actually good at. For me the team that is going to beat them is going to play them at their own game by using high press and not giving them 75% of the ball. We are good at pressing high and getting balls in the box so why not do that? All this chat about changing our formation is just playing right into their hands and will give our players the mindset of having to sit back and defend. Again, the rest of the league have tried this tactic in the last 63 games and it hasn't worked. Obviously we are going to need everyone on top of their game to execute this but someone has to beat them. We need to go with the style of play that has brought us to the dance rather than doing what the rest of the country do and camping guys behind the ball. There are ways to play this system without leaving ourselves totally exposed.

Scottish Premiership Game 12: Ross County (A) 04/11/17 15:00

I'm confident we will get back to winning ways tomorrow, no reason why we can't go up there and get a result. I genuinely think we will be too strong for them. Team wise I would make a couple of changes from Saturday Carson Kipre Hartley Dunne Cadden Rose Bigi Campbell Tait Moult Bowman For me McHugh has been struggling for a while now, I really like him as a player and captain but he has been very sluggish and wasteful with the ball. I think a week on the bench could do him some good. There is an argument for doing the same with Campbell especially given his age. He is going to be a huge asset for us but has been playing a lot of football. In either case I think a week out the team is warranted. Bigi has been looking good from the bench and I think he looks like he now understands the pace of play alot better. He makes things happen in the middle of the park too and hopefully should see us play a lot more football than we did against Hibs. Actually not the biggest fan of Tait defensively but I think he has done really well on the left hand side. I like Frear especially for his delivery but sometimes think he is a wee bit lightweight. I would like to see Tanner given a chance but I don't know how you fit him in for Saturday without distrupting the system we have. Would need to drop Bowman or a holding midfielder? Regardless of the team my confidence in Robinson is sky high, can't remember having so much faith in a manager. It is so refreshing to have a manager who will change things if they are going wrong like he did on Saturday. Our options from the bench are encouraging too. So much potential for guys to step up and show how strong the squad is. Exciting times ahead! -
Rotten first half today. Outfought and outbattled. Refused to play football and constantly launched it high. Hats off to Robbo for trying to change it at half time. Bigi and Tanner made quite a difference. In the end we could have snatched something from a game we shouldn't have been in. The guys are allowed an off day though they've been great for the majority of the season. For me McHugh needs a few weeks on the bench. Been poor/slow quite a lot of the season. Appreciate it's difficult as he is captain but needs to do more. I'd bring Bigi in for him and Tait back in for Frear next week. Thought Demi looked a good option for us, encouraged by his pace.

Apparently it's 10k, don't see us taking any more than 6k tbh though. Agree re the pricing but at the end of the day anyone who really wants to go will be there, not often we get a semi final.

Scottish Premiership Game 7: Aberdeen (H) Sunday 24/09/17 (12.15)
Lukemfc1 replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
Back to reality. A terrible game but I wasn't really surprised by that. Aberdeen were much improved and battled far better than they did on Thursday. The boy McKenna out muscled our strikers for most of the game and they seemed to have more dig in their team. For periods of the game I thought we did fine, there was just a lack of quality up front creatively from both teams. I thought we missed Rose's running from Thursday. McHugh who is probably one of my favorite players but was really poor, he wanted far too long on the ball and was too slow in possession. Bigi was a bit better but still needs to up the tempo a tad. Don't think we were terrible by any means. The game could have gone either way and I would say we probably warranted a draw. Onwards and upwards -
Really looking forward to tomorrow's game, especially after our display on Saturday. I'm hoping it will be a fairly packed Fir Park with the combination of September weekend, Cup fever and Aberdeen's healthy travelling support - not to mention the low PATG admission. In terms of the game itself I'm optimistic. Our recent cup form should have no bearing as this is a completely different group of lads with a new mentality. From what I understand Aberdeen's recent performances haven't been great, they have however been scraping out results. With the attacking options they have I think it is only a matter of time before they click into place. We need to have a plan to combat this. Going forward I think we can hurt Aberdeen however as their defence is still pretty suspect. Team wise I wouldn't deviate too much from the one selected on Saturday. Dunne is out so I would think Hammell will come in for him. Not seen Plummer enough to say whether he would be a better option. Hammell has been decent in the 3 at the back system from what I've seen, mainly because he doesn't have to rely on his pace (or lack there of) Only concern is his height as Aberdeen are quite a big team. After Saturday you could make an argument for including both Bigi and Tanner but I don't think the 11 who started on Saturday done enough wrong to warrant being dropped. For me Bigi is still a bit off the pace required to play up here, he wants to hang on to the ball too long. When he does get up to pace he is going to be a key player though. Tanner is promising as well but I'd bring him on from the bench. Rose is an interesting one, I don't think he has any great ability but for the first time I realised on Saturday the amount of running he does, I think this is part of the reason Robinson likes him in there. Carson Kipre Hartley Hammell Cadden Rose McHugh Campbell Tait Moult Bowman Going to go with a 2-1 Well' a cup run is well overdue.

Scottish Premiership Game 6: Hibernian (A) Saturday 16/09/17
Lukemfc1 replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
What a day! 1st half I thought we were fine, Hibs were quite lucky to go in ahead. Moult had a good couple of good chances. Having just seen the replay of the penalty that was a shocker. At the time I thought it was a pen but the ref has got that one very wrong. 2nd half I thought we were outstanding, Stokes goal was against the run of play and a bit of an error from Kipre in not clearing properly. From there I thought we dominated. The way we moved the ball and the pressure put on Hibs was fantastic. Brilliant stuff from Moult especially for the second. I thought we very easily could have won it. Tanner changed the game for me when he came on and I think Bigi done decent although he still seems to be adjusting to the pace of the game up here. Special mention to Alan Campbell who was outstanding. This boy could very well be our next breakthrough player. His tackling is second to none and distribution is very decent. Special mention to everyone that made it along today, a positive and vocal support which I think sums up the feel good factor just now. Bring on Aberdeen on Thursday hopefully another good support and result -

Can anyone offer any advice on good streets to park on please? Usually get the train through there but using car tomorrow. Also does anyone know if the ticket office is open tomorrow? I know Hibs are selling tickets over there but sounds like it might be a bit of a pain in the arse. Thanks in advance -
Fairly pleased with our dealings. I think financially we have done amazing and the club need to take plaudits for the Johnson deal and holding out for a fair amount for Heneghan. Whilst I want the club to be financially strong I care far more about what we see on the pitch. Grimshaw for me was a decent player first time round, think he has been hyped up to be a bit more than he was. He will be a bench player. Hartley looks like a decent capture albeit it a loan, boy has some decent experience. I would have really liked some Scottish boys signed as it seems to be a nearly fully English team now but just personal preference really. I'm hoping this boy Petravicius can step up as still think we lack a bit of an attacking threat.
-
Fair play to the club if this is true, finally looks like we are starting get some sort of backbone when it comes to rejecting offers. 500k for Heneghan would be good business on our part. Big difference between this and 150/200k. Hopefully with this and the Marvin money we should be able to get a couple of centre backs in. Perhaps McGinn and one other?
-
Anyone know what the sell on amount we get for Marvin? Mind blowing he is going for £2million pounds but good news for us.
-
Regardless of the varying opinions we all have on Heneghan the transfer market is an absolute shambles at the moment. Getting 150k for a guy who could do a job in the English championship is not good business for us. Naturally we will never get the fees they command down there but we need to stop selling our guys short.
-
To be honest in the 2nd half of last season I thought Heneghan was absolutely horrendous. This season like the first half of last he has done pretty well. Does the basics right for the most part and has good potential. Finally it looks like we are getting a bit of solidity at the back, it would be a shame to lose that. 150k is laughable IMO, I hope we kick anything under 400/500k into touch. Heneghan is the type of player that would absolutely walk it in League 1 and a Championship team will come in for next year and offer a million for due to the bizarro world financial climate down there. I would really surprised if he moves to anything below a middle table Championship team, there are far worst defenders in that league
-
Cedric Kipre has signed a year extenstion. Brilliant business by the club, well done to all involved.
-
By all accounts comes with a decent pedigree. Nottingham Forrest and then a fairly big club in Poland. 7 caps at 21 ain't too shabby too. Good to see the club tying someone else up. It will be interesting to see if he gets played as a winger or if it is a more central role. Personally i still feel we need an out and out striker but with the boy being young Robinson could have a different position in mind for him. Fingers crossed an experienced centre back is next on the list. I'd like to see someone a bit older come in as we seem to be lacking experience in the team at the moment. Don't get me wrong some of these young guys seem like have a lot to prove and a hunger about them but it's important to get a decent balance
-
The difference between McGhee and Robinson was shown today. Last season McGhee would have watched that dirge in the first half and not changed anything. Robinson seen how badly the first half went and made the changes required. Brilliant win for us and let's hope we push on now. I thought Campbell and Bowman were tremendous when they came in. Fair play to both of them. Second half was night and day really. Thought Dunne had a really good game today. Tanner and Fisher were pretty poor. Bigi I still think there is more to come from this guy, hasn't been amazing so far but Campbell helped him in the second half. The defence is still giving me the fear (first half mainly) looks like a knife through butter and times, Tait defensively worries me. I don't know if it's the system too though. Hopefully push on against Hearts next week, broken record here but a defender and a striker is still required.
-
Surely we can adjust budgets accordingly.. oh no I forgot we are skinto wishful thinking I guess
-
From Robinson's last press conference he seemed to indicate a new arrival could be on the way. Hopefully the extra £ from Celtic getting through will accelerate this. Experienced centre back and a striker with more quality than Bowman/Fisher. Pleaseeee

Scottish Premiership Game 2: St Johnstone (A) Saturday 12/08/17
Lukemfc1 replied to Ocelot Groomin''s topic in Club Chat
Didn't think it was our worst display in the world but certainly a reality check after all the 'positivity chat' coming out the club. Didn't have a great view of any of the incidents other than McHugh's which summed up modern refereeing. Going to go out on a limb and say Carsons was dubious too. Generally I thought it was a typical game up there, absolute dirge at times. Launching balls up in there etc. Our defending was woeful and it looked like a knife through butter first half. Richard Tait in particular was pish. I know he is a favourite with some but he really can't defend to save himself. In contrast I thought Dunne did pretty well at times, technically though very limited. Going forward Bowman and Fisher tried their best but we need another option up there. We need quality. So bottom of the league and back to reality -
I see Miles Storey and Sammon are away to Partick. I know Storey was mentioned with us a few times. Hopefully we have someone else in mind
-
Oh well bang goes that then haha I was under the impression both would make a recovery. Nervous about putting this new boy in but would rather this than have McHugh out midfield
-
Buzzing for the new season and couldn't ask for a better opener. I think this has really added to the excitement. It's been a few years since we have had as many new signings and optimism around the club. In terms of Sevco, they are in a pretty similar position to ourselves - loads of new players trying to gel together. I would like to think we are in a far more advanced position in that regard. My hope is we can take advantage of this, a lot of their foreign players haven't played in Europe let alone Scotland. The frantic pace is not something some of their new guys will be used to so I think we should try and take advantage of this. Although a lot of our guys are from England they are more used to this British style of playing. Let's start off at the pace we had in the first half v Morton, moving the ball quickly. In terms of the team, I think it will pick itself for the most part Carson Kipre Heneghan Dunne Tait McHugh Cadden Bigi Frear Tanner Moult Robinson seems to be putting a lot of focus on aerial balls from the flanks. I'm not convinced we will find much success here with Alves in there. Although King Louis might find a way. I would try to utilise our threat through the middle more with Tanner and Cadden. I especially like the look of Cadden in this new role. As some have alluded to McHugh in midfield is a must. With him and Bigi in there I think we can best most centre midfield partnerships in the league. Hoping there will be a healthier home support than normal against them on Sunday and create a decent noise. Optimistic 2-1 Motherwell
