  1. Really would have liked to get someone a bit more experienced given our current back three is probably Kipre Heneghan Dunne but must have a decent ability if he was at Man City. At the very least should techincally have something about him. Would be interesting to hear St Mirren fans view on him. We sorely needed another defender in so fair play to the club for acting. Just need a striker and that should be our business done

  2. Do we think this increase is mainly down to the juvenile initiatives? Sceptical of the spin as I would say books for zero / 20 quid skew figures in monetary terms. Tbf I bought my first book in a few years due to a few factors McGhee leaving / clear out of the dead wood so there might be others like me. Stupidly attended 95% of home games using patg

  3. Heneghan had a tight hamstring and McManus was dropped from the squad for being dreadful so outside them there isn't anyone else bar McHugh who can fill in. Maybe they would look at under 20s and see if they can find someone who can do a Ben Hall and cement a place in the team

Just on this point. We should have had another centre back in a month ago. Will be really disappointed if McHugh has to cover there next week

  4. Aye thought that was pretty flat this afternoon, hoping that it's just due to already qualifying. Felt more like a friendly at times. I wanted us to come out the traps at a quick pace like we did last week but just never really happened. In terms of positives I thought Kipre looks very promising albeit against weak opposition. I genuinely donthink this guy could do well for us. His technique is classy at times and he is an imposing stature. Frear was good at times too, probably our biggest threat. I just wish he would have more confidence to drive at defenders because he does have good ability. Dunne done played pretty well at times too but still some question marks regarding his passing. Overall I thought our passing and rhythm going forward wasn't the greatest. This pumping balls into the box is decent but feel that Robinson tends to hang his hat on it saying we had 40 crosses a game etc. The crosses need to be decent, some of them today were floaty nothing balls. In saying that there was a few Fisher and Moult could have done more with. Moult was sluggish but will give him good game time for next week. I thought that Newell boy I looked really quick and has something about him. Hard to say against that level of club though. My biggest fear is with the Hammell/Heneghan injuries that next week McHugh gets moved back to centre back. This would be a big miss in the middle of the park as im not convinced by Rose and Bigi having the same sort of impact there.

Hopeful for next week but I think iwe need to up the pace and try to catch Rangers new boys flat footed. It's hard to judge where we are to be honest but won't be long until we find out

  5. Lee Erwin has agreed his release from Leeds, apparently looking at offers from both Scotland & England. I know a lot of folk have voiced before that they thought he was a bit overated at the time. Personally I would try and get him back, don't think he was as ordinary as some have made out. Would give us another option up front which is desperately needed at the moment. I would presume he is a far more mature player since his move down south too.

  6. I thought we were excellent today, passing was superb at times. You can point to Morton being awful and having ten men but regardless we looked much improved. The pace of our play and passing in the first half was particularly pleasing. Glad Robinson went for a more 4-4-2 style formation and it give us a much better shape and balance. It also gave Cadden and Frear a lot more freedom.

From the new boys I was really impressed by Kipre again. He looks very assured in possession. Liked the look of Tanner too, got something about him for sure. Dunne is the question mark for me, technically he looks pretty poor but I like his pace on the flank. Bigi is going to be a player for us, him and McHugh in the middle are building a good partnership.

All in all really pleased with the way things are shaping up

  7. From the new presser, Robinson said Clay leaving 'balances the books' when asked if it freed up a wage for a new signing. Still he mentioned that we've 'got some defenders on our radar as well as wanting to add up top'. Didn't sound very conclusive though. Don't want to labour the point but I think it would be madness starting the season without bringing in an experienced defender. No explanation is really needed after last seasons antics. IMO, Kipre looks decent but is unproven, Dunne has had a poor injury record. We need someone who has done it at a decent level but is not on the decline like McManus.

  8. It will be interesting to see what system Robinson goes for tomorrow. I fear he might prefer his variation of 3-5-2/ 3-6-1 or whatever you want to call it. He seems to have favoured this since coming into the club. I'm not sure if this has always been his personal preference (eg at Oldham) or if it's soley a consequence of our limited options. Either way, I think tomorrow's line up might give a strong indication of things to come tactically. We are only 2 weeks away from the season proper so I hope Robinson has a good idea of what our best system is. Personally I'd like to see 4 at the back but we desperately need another defender. I'd go with:

    Carson

    Tait Kipre Heneghan Dunne

    Cadden McHugh Bigi Frear

    Bowman Moult

Don't know where Dunne is fitness wise but would like to see what he can offer. Bowman deserves a chance in the team given his recent run. The guy will be full of confidence just now and would be good to keep this going into the season. On a seperate note, does anyone know where Maclean is? Had high hopes for him but not sure if he is still injured?

  9. Good luck to Clay, always seemed to give his best but didn't have the right qualities for the game up here. Always thought the game passed him by, would be better suited to a less fast paced league IMO. With Thomas gone the only remaining candidate to get rid of is Mr Blyth. Jacob Blyth might be the worst guy in human history so not sure this is going to be an easy one to sell to potential suitors. I think at this point we might be better trying to cut our losses slightly and come to a mutual agreement, as much as it pains me I think this guy would happily sit here for the year and do hee-haw anyway.

Hopefully Robinson can find a way to get rid of Blyth, if so that will be three solid wages out the club. Priority number 1 should another centre back but I think Robinson seems more keen on getting another striking option, I believe we need both.

  10. First half I thought we were pretty rotten but as the game went on I thought we done pretty well. Firstly hats off to Bowman for the goals, would like to see him starting next week instead of Fisher. He got a hard time last season off some but I've always thought he had something about him. Key for me is not to treat him like a target man like Mcghee did. In midfield, McHugh done excellent filling the void in the middle of park as expected and Bigi, whilst not doing much looked assured. I don't enjoy the 3 at the back an would like us to revert to 4 but maybe Robinson doesn't think we have the players for it. Kipre was an interesting one, thought he was mixed bag but overall was impressed by him. I can see why Robinson signed him, looked raw but very athletic. Overall pleased but still think we are a defender and striker short of being where we need to be.

  11. Good decision by the club to get rid of Thomas, was going nowhere with us. Waste of a wage really. Had a few tricks but from what I've observed won't have the application to cut it at this level. I think he could do a job for a bottom half SPFL championship team but that's about it. Didn't buy the opinion that he didn't get a chance, had years to break through and numerous youth players have shown the opportunity is there if you grasp it

  12. Might be a friendly but getting beat off Gateshead and Barrow is pretty embarrassing. If we were weeks away from competitive action I wouldn't care but we start the season on Saturday. Interested to get reports of the game from anyone there.. from what I seen on live feed it didn't look amazing

  13. Robinson has said we have made Moult an offer to make him highest paid player at the club. Hopefully he doesn't accept otherwise we will be looking at an unhappy dressing room according to some on here..

In all seriousness well done to the club for doing what we can

  14. More on topic I see Stephen O'Donnell is away to Killie, I know a few mentioned him as being a possibility. Think he will do well there. Not surprised we didn't go for him as he would need to be first choice right back and we obviously have Tait. Stephen is from Overtown however so could see how he might have been on the radar

  15.

I think the thing that you're overlooking though, and the point that is being made, is that if you offer Moult increased terms for scoring goals, you're going to have Tait and Frear knocking the door asking where their increased terms are for providing the assists for the goals, Cadden phoning asking where's his increased terms if the club don't want him moving on, McManus and Hammell looking for increased terms as they are senior players, vice captains.

Sticking to a wage structure isn't just about staying within your financial means, it's about balancing the wages across the playing staff so as not to piss anyone off.

There seems to be a significant number of people on here who are quite happy to create a dressing-room full of unhappy players. You might think Louis Moult is better than the above mentioned players and therefore deserves it, but I guarantee you the above mentioned players don't agree with you, especially when money is involved. If you think any of them would be fine with a "let's pay Louis a ton of cash so he'll stay" approach, then you're dreaming.

I'm sorry I just don't buy this at all. Do you believe clubs have parity across their team in terms of wages? It's a reality of the game that the star players get the most money. Not everyone is on the same wage, not even close. A lot of them will be on similar money but the prized asset should be on the most if they are playing the best. The dressing room being totally unhappy over this is a total exaggeration in my opinion. Crazy that people are making an argument to pay some of the above the same as Moult

  16.

Exactly. Like I said in an earlier post, we have a wage structure and need to stick to it. As soon as you make an exception, you have no structure and instantly cause unrest among the players.

When Moult moves on, it won't be because he couldn't get an extra few quid out of us. It will be because a better team, offering more career development opportunities comes in for him, and bumps his salary to a level we can't compete with.

Also, crowdfunding a player's salary is mental. If you want to throw extra money to the club, give it to the Society before the end of the year, and it will be worth double.

Appreciate your point on structure but I think the thing being overlooked here is if we can entice Moult to sign a new deal with increased terms we are going to be in line for a much higher fee in January or next summer. If sticking to a structure means losing Moult for hee-haw this doesn't make very good long term financial sense. Blindly sticking to a structure could cost us money in the long term.. Now ofcourse this is all hypothetical because Moult may not even want a new deal but the point stands generally. We need to be smart with contract renewels in order to protect our assets. I think the club has been getting a bit better with this over the last year or so. Not sure if these fans are actually being serious about handing over their direct debit details but I guess it just shows how much affection they have for him.

  17. I try to be realistic but the fact we are saying that we can't offer these guys another £500 quid a week concerns me. These are our best players. Players that could become very rewarding sellable assets. I've heard a few folk say that with fan ownership we are now in the best financial position we have been in for some time. This sort of statement doesn't ring true with the above for me. Don't want to have the whole fan ownership debate because I am not strongly for/against it but this sort of thing makes me think that our budget is probably the worst it's been for some time.

  18. Here's the obligatory YouTube video for Dunne. He's described as a left back/CB/wing back so take your pick.

Interesting if this is his highlights.. Looks like his pace makes up for a lot, not that impressed by someone of his control/positioning here. A few guys have slated him on twitter (Wycombe fans) Be nice to have an injection of pace in to the team though, something tha that has been somewhat lacking since Marv left. Fingers crossed he turns out to be a good capture

  19. Left-back. So cover for Stevie H.

I love him as much as the next guy but surely we aren't going to endure another season of him being first choice left back, it's time to change things up. With respect to Stevie his performances were a mixed bag last season but he certaintly isn't the player we had a few years back. I'm hoping this is someone who can step up and Hammell can provide cover to him
