  1. Good signing as others have said Twardzik is only been in running for POTY because of the ineptitude of the rest of the squad. Hopefully a commanding keeper will take some of the pressure off the defence and allow them to worry about there role rather than protect the keeper.

  2. If you'd have O'Brien in your team ahead of Kerr, Reid or Ramsden at centre back (we have Law or Watt for right back) after Saturday, can I suggest you use deadline day wisely and get your eyes tested?

Kerr as dead wood? He's had two decent games at centre back (his natural position) in a row. Have any of our other centre backs managed this so far this season?

Have to agree O'Brien causes so many problems. He should have been stronger on Saturday at St Johnstones 1st goal. Kerr isn't great but given a run at centre half would offer far more than O'Brien.

  3. Never understood some of the hatred for Nevin from our fans. He begged Boyle to delay administration until end of season. He resigned in protest of Boyles actions. Make no mistake, it was his Boyles lofty ambition that led to administration.

That said, still very grateful to him for all his efforts with the club over the years.

No Nevin was complicit in the club going into administration, he was in charge of a football dealings, he then walked away instead of admitting his part in the mess. Boyle made a mess of a lot of things but Nevin was advising him and spending Boyle's millions on players that weren't worth it.

Boyle lost money. Nevin made a fortune out of Motherwell.

  4. Countless times Law had his head up looking to pass with absolutely no-one anywhere near him and no-one looking for the ball. Not his fault if he has to go back.

Been like that quite often there are a few players hiding this season not looking for the ball it then makes it very difficult if you are trying to play some football rather than just hoofing it and in fairness to Law he's one of the few that has tried to pass the ball but he'll look worse giving the ball away rather than midfielders that hide away.

  5. For the next game, the centre back partnership should be Kerr + A.N. Other. Sadly it won't be

New guys. Straker looked like he was going to challenge for the Abel Thermeus Award for worst ever Motherwell player in the first half. Looked better when he went to left back. Laing and O'Brien look a disastrous partnership. Whether one or the other would look better alongside another player, I couldn't say. O'Brien hasn't impressed really so maybe Laing would be better with Kerr or McManus.

A point gained given how things were at half time. Problem is we don't seem to know a good starting lineup but occasionally stumble on to a better team...

Was surprised that Kerr didn't start I thought he had a decent game last week and O'Brien has been very poor most of the season.

I understand we have been badly hit with injuries but we can't hope for any consistency when various players are changing position weekly.

Hopefully over the next two weeks we can get some of the injured players back and start having a settled side.

  6. The circumstances then were completely different to those that Baraclough has found himself in.

Brown took over a side that was sitting in 6th place when Gannon was sacked, and he had players like Jennings, Hateley, Ruddy, Reynolds, Jutkiewicz and Murphy to see him through until the end of the season.

Gannon was a bit mental, but we weren't in as bad shape playing-wise as we were when Baraclough joined us.

McCall had more background knowledge on the current squad than anyone and he was at a loss to figure out what the fuck was going on, wasn't he? Just because Baraclough knew some of our players and had an idea of what they were capable of doesn't mean he was going to be able to come in and sprinkle some magic dust to turn around our fortunes.

He's brought in two players thus far, and one of them is a quality midfielder that knows the Scottish game well. The other is a bit of an unknown, but we can't really judge him until we've seen him get some game time.

    Yeah, there is.

Sack Baraclough after eight game or so, stick Kenny Black back in charge and proceed to go through the entire process of recruiting a manager again, all the while admitting that we didn't know what the fuck we were doing in the first place, because that's what such actions will suggest.

Why any other manager worth his salt would take us seriously after that is beyond me to be honest. Would you risk your reputation on a club that fired a guy a few months after he was in the door? I know that I certainly wouldn't.

If we're wanting to survive relegation the best thing to go for is continuity. That means keeping the guy you hired, especially when he's only just gotten started in the job and has signed a couple of players.

Let him do his job for fuck sake man.

If this team falls into the Championship the blame lies at the feet of the current playing staff and the former manager, not the guy who was brought in late on to try and mop up the mess.

Am I suggesting that our new manager be given use of a budget to rectify mistakes and issues that the club had before he was appointed? Yes. That's how it works, isn't it?

The new guy is appointed and is then given the funds to do his own thing with the team.

    Agree 100%

  7. Would assume the manager has seen him play and will know exactly where he will fit in and what he will offer us. Just because he doesn't fit in with another manager in another team doesn't necessary mean he won't fit into a system and style of play that suits us.

    Here's hoping anyway.

  8. He was poor overall.

He had a decent run of form for about a month but apart from that he didn't contribute much and his attitude in his final few matches was shocking.

Have to agree with you, he was unfit for much of his time during his second spell here. Also felt he tried to do to much himself and never released the ball when he should have. We will miss him but he's not irreplaceable.

  9. I thought we were close to bringing someone in for last Saturday, but still haven't got him or any other in. Is it cheaper to sign them on a Friday?

Only pure speculation but I think it was possibly the Vigurs/Dayton switch which has broken down. And if we can't get Vigurs off the books the move will be dead.

  10. I think it's a bit harsh to criticize the manager for bringing older players in when it is probably just a bit of leadership he is bringing in until the end of the season. We have enough young players at the club doing nothing and at the minute we have to focus on the immediate future by signing any players the manager thinks can stop the team being relegated.

Agree if he can bring in an experienced defender that can organise the shambles of a defence we have had for most this season then I will be more than happy.

  11. Assuming the same players are injured/ suspended I'd like to see pretty much the same lineup as sat but with Thomas out wide and Erwin up front, Sutton dropping to the bench as just about everything good we do at the moment breaks down with him.

Will take a point here just to stop the downward spiral.

I would start with the team that started on Saturday, I understand the frustration with Sutton but on Saturday we were getting the ball into the box and creating chances and I firmly believe Sutton will convert more chances than Erwin in the box.

Also Pearson made good runs from midfield on Saturday and linked fairly well with Sutton holding ball up.

  12. can anyone enlighten me on the drop ball rules....Thompson gives, then disallows the "goal"... awards a drop ball in the 6 yard box, pearson goes to contest it, is waved away, ref drops the ball and their keeper picks it up

and sends it downfield to set them up in attack.

After Willie Collums recent displays I thought that level of ineptitude couldn't be surpassed however Thompson ably assisted by the linesmen managed that. He failed to award a stonewall penalty constantly let heavy tackles go unpunished yet stopped the flow of the game with silly little awards.

But you could nearly accept that he was just a shocking ref but until now I have never witnessed a referee basically make up rules over his handling of the non goal award, there's been little reference to it in the media but I would expect Sportscene tonight to highlight it. Thompson needs to be taken to task by the SFA over this and should be removed from officiating at all further games. I understand interpretation of laws can be tricky at times but referees can not start making them up.

  13. I would give it to Erwin caused a lot of problems for United still needs a bit of composure at critical times but yesterday his pace, strength and control was excellent. There were a few candidates though, which hasn't been the case that often this season, but Pearson, Law even Kerr had a good game.

  14. It looked like a penalty for a foul on Pearson but the tackle was kind of going the way we were facing so from where the Motherwell fans were it would be hard to be sure whether ball or man was played first. What I would say is that Pearson looked to be ahead so not sure why he would have gone down.

Just before the disallowed goal I noticed Craig Thomson motioning to his assistant on our side that he couldn't hear him through the radio mic. My suspicion is there was a communication breakdown that led Thomson to think he had said goal hence he pointed to the circle and then when realising the error had to go for the drop ball. Whilst I can't be certain but it didn't look in.

On the overall performance, I thought the worst Motherwell player was acceptable today where in some games that has been where our best player has been. Lets not kid ourselves we weren't brilliant but we lost three goals in the last quarter, two which were bang tidy finishes (one when we were chasing an equaliser) and the one from the corner looked like a clear push on McManus which let Fojut win the header. We competed well, our defending was much better organised, there was a rigid shape. The midfield retained the ball better. Carswell had his best game of the season and Pearson whilst clearly still adapting is a level above with ball retention. Erwin had his most promising game in a 'Well jersey and Ainsworth lively when he came on.

With the decisions that went against us, the fact they are better than us this was a much more encouraging performance. I don't even think we deserved to lose. If that performance is par for the rest of the season, we'll stay up and I haven't said that often this season.

Agree completely, not often I come away from a 3-1 defeat feeling positive.

  15. If non playing staff count then, Bobby Watson (player then later manager) Craig Brown (assistant then manager) Tam Forsyth (player then assistant) Kenny Black (player then assistant) Willie McLean (manager then assistant) Pat Quinn ( player then assistant ) I'm sure there are many more of this ilk.
