  1. Good luck to Dan, it'll be interesting to see where he ends up.

McCall signing him on a two year deal and installing him as number one was the first sign he had lost the plot.

McCall left all goalkeeping decisions to Gordon Marshall apparently so he has to shoulder the blame for that one.

  2. I would consider putting either Kennedy or Laing in for Ben Hall, I think he will come good but don't think he has played well for last few games

I think the defensive pairing of McManus and Hall is the strongest we have had in a number of seasons. As others have said the problem is lack of protection in front of them and the fullback areas.

  3. That's a great point.

Saturday was one of those days for Hearts!

There's no doubt we had a bad day and didn't deserve anything from that game, but as others have said, we did have chances.

On another day, Hearts 1st goal stays out (not seen anything conclusive to say it was in), they don't get the 1st penalty and Motherwell take their chances. All of a sudden we're 2-1 up on the hour mark.....

The first goal was crucial on Saturday( and I'm convinced it wasn't in) their confidence grew whilst some of our players seem to go into a shell and didn't want the ball to build anything from the back.

Even at 3-0 if we had taken one of the chances we had I thought we could've got something out of the game, but their 4th just sucked the remaining hope out and we seemed to lose all shape.

  4. The back 4 should revert to its normal set up agreed. If we play two in the middle though they'll take us with a bit to spare as they are a powerful, fit team who work very hard off the ball to close opponents down. The big question for me is who else we play in the middle. Is it too much to ask for that we sign a Grimshaw replacement before Saturday? As things stand I think Laing would be the most likely answer to our problem.

I think Laing would have been a better option yesterday at least would have given the defence some cover. But I think next week start with Ainsworth on the right but playing as the out ball role and have Johnson tucking in on the left as he offers slightly more physicality than Ainsworth.

  5. It might do. I suspect Leitch and Reid are almost certainly away. Watt has appeared on the bench once or twice lately so who knows. Kennedy has had one bad game and paid the penalty for that. There are also others like Law and Chalmers whose days may be numbered.

I think Law has done well enough at right back this year not to be punted, but please never again at centre midfield. Reid will hopefully go along with Twardzik, and Robinson if we can find someone willing to pay even a part of their wages before the end of the season.

I think that we will have to wait to the summer to see what happens with Chalmers, Watt, Leitch, Kennedy and a few others.

  6.

Even at 3-0 after 22 minutes McGhee didn't change it. Or half time! In fact he kept it like that the full 90, tinkering only with the forwards. Surely he had a incline that this starting 11 was a risk and if it wasn't working what plan b was? Apparently not....

What do you think he sees in Chalmers (that no one else can?) to go straight back in the team? But not Watt?

Our league position is still extremely precarious and my confidence that McGhee can get us out of it has taken a massive dent.

The Arse fell out our game so quickly yesterday there wasn't a lot of time between them scoring the first and the game being over at 3-0. The only reason I think if Mcghee didn't make changes was, had he taken Chalmers off, it would have highlighted how poor he was and wrecked whatever confidence he has. Unfortunately we may have to rely on him at some time in the future if Hammell gets injured.

  7. Just watching the highlights on alba the now.

Debatable if their first was actually over the line and I think the pen was a dive. Sow's chopped off goal looked onside though.

I didn't think at the game the first goal was over the line but thought the lack of protest by our players showed that it must be a goal. Having watched it back now I'm convinced it wasn't in.

  8. A home tie and thats a good start. Hard but winnable game. Yes ICT beat us convincingly a couple of months ago but they certainly got a bit of luck that day.

Exactly, the result that day didn't mirror the performances of the two teams. A soft re-taken penalty, and a wicked deflected goal gave them a comfortable half time league before Vigurs scored with a wonder strike. I left the game that day not too down beat as I felt we had matched ICT for most of the game.

I'm not saying it will be easy but it's a tie we have every chance of winning.

  9. I take it you've never played the game at any level? When you fly into a tackle or move to block a ball, or even jumping for a header, your arms and hands move to positions which aren't 'natural'.

You cannot run around a pitch with your hands and arms down by your side. The force in which the ball was struck also made it impossible for lasley to do anything about it or even attempt a block with his hand. It was never a penalty imo.

I was just about to say the same thing, it would have been impossible for Lasley to turn and attempt to close down the Accies player without his arm being in that or a very similar position, therefore that is a natural position.

It is also similar to the penalty conceded against Inverness when McManus was adjudged to have handled while being nudged and not facing the ball his arm then couldn't really have been anywhere else.

To me it highlights that so many of the referees have not played football at a sufficient level to basically understand the game. It is possible to learn the rules from seminars and rule books but have no real understanding of playing football.

  10. Teams in the 50s/60s/70s played through all weathers and the parks were more like ploughed fields. Players today, dont know their born! Lol

Seriously though, I much prefer to watch a game on a good surface.

I would have loved to see the standard of players we had playing back then, playing today on the surfaces we have now.
