  1. I think clay must be working out that the writing is on the wall. He played no minutes last night.

McHugh, bigi, Campbell, McLean and Gordon - all ahead of him!

And yes Mcleans number one position is in the middle - McGhee played him out wide purely because he has pace.

McLean and Campbell were a great pairing at u20 level and both look like the believe they can play first team level.

Over the two friendly games I've been very impressed with McLean he looks physically stronger than he did and his use of the ball and movement have been excellent. I think he could go on to be a bigger asset than Cadden.

  2. I thought Dunne played alright tbh, any real issues today were caused by a McManus brain fart and Kipre being slow off the mark. Only 45 mins under his belt but i'm confident he will have more success than Jules, Chalmers and Straker.

I agree I thought Dunne was our best defender in the first half, he was also a decent out ball a few times. I was actually quite optimistic that he will be our recognised left back this season.
  3.

Going by P&B it's Dundee who are in for the excellently named Coulthirst rather than us. Which makes a bit more sense given he kb'd us in January for quite specific reasons (he didn't want to move away from London). Given that reason I'd have thought it quite odd if we'd gone back for him.

Dundee is after all much closer to London.

  4. Cummings to complete a big money move to Notts Forest. Wouldn't be overly surprised if Lennon makes a move for Moult.

Moult is a better player than Cummings. He's scored goals in a struggling Motherwell team in the Premiership for the last two years. Cummings has scored goals in a team going well in the Championship for the last few years. So if the going rate for Cummings is 1.5 million with sell on clauses then there is no way Hibs will be able to afford Moult.

  5. Not sure how readable this is, but here are some potential transfer ideas (Mainly based on out of contract and freed players so far.)

Pos Detail Name Nationality Club Contract Age Weighting

    1 - Good Signing, 2 - Maybe, 3 - Probably unrealistic Comments

GK GK Alan Mannus Northern Irish St. Johnstone OOC 34 1 Signed contract ext with St. Johnstone

GK GK Anders Lindegaard Danish Preston Released 33 3

DF D C Gordon Greer Scottish Blackburn Released 35 1

DF DL Luke Leahy English Falkirk OOC 24 2

MF M/AM RLC Blair Spittal Scottish Dundee Utd OOC 21 1

MF M C Charlie Telfer Scottish Dundee Utd OOC 21 1

MF AM C Chris Commons Scottish Celtic OOC 33 1

MF AM RLC Gary McKay-Steven Scottish Celtic 26 3

    Thoughts?

Spoke earlier today to a Falkirk supporting mate, Leahy is apparently heading to Walsall and Sibbald would command a hefty development fee. Also rumour has it Scougall is heading to Perth with St Johnstone as Swanson's replacement.

  6. I think we are probably in agreement here Joe...when I said 'front two', I was meaning him being the foil for someone like Moult, but on far too many occasions for me, he has ultimately ended up as an additional midfielder being expected to track back, match his man etc.

I agree with you but in the Celtic game at Fir Park, he played Scott Brown off the pitch in the first half while playing that deeper role, which resulted in them changing their system at half time to try and get Brown into the game.

  7. ALL IN FOR MOULT Rangers will have to offer cash AND Michael OHalloran to sign Motherwell star Louis Moult

SunSport previously revealed the Fir Park hitman was high on a list of Scottish-based transfer targets for Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha

RANGERS will have to cough up cash AND Michael OHalloran if they want to land Louis Moult.

SunSport can reveal talks aimed at thrashing out a deal between Gers and Motherwell are set to start.

Pedro Caixinha wants to sign Louis Moult

As we revealed first, Wells top scorer features high on a list of Scottish-based players compiled by Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha.

The 25-year-old scored 18 goals this season and was a major factor in the Fir Park sides surge to safety.

Although Moult has one year left to run on his current contract, its thought Well are willing to sell but only if their asking price is met

WELL CLEAR-OUT Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson set to axe EIGHT players but wants Keith Lasley to stay as coach

The Fir Park side want £500,000 for their talisman, plus a season-long loan deal for OHalloran.

The ex-St Johnstone star still has three years of his Ibrox contract to run.

But he has fallen out of favour under Caixinha and is one of the high-profile stars the Portuguese is looking to offload.

Motherwell failed in a bid to land the 27-year-old in January.

Motherwell want Michael OHalloran on loan

Motherwell want Michael OHalloran on loan

But after announcing yesterday that EIGHT players had left Well, boss Steve Robinson is chasing new faces.

So too is Caixinha as he embarks on a massive summer of transition at Ibrox.

Moult is a player he desperately wants, but with Derby and Oxford also interested he knows Gers need to act fast.

Scott McDonald left Well last week and has been followed through the Fir Park exit door by Craig Samson, Joe Chalmers, Lee Lucas, Zak Jules, Craig Moore, David Ferguson and Stephen Pearson.

Its understood Ryan Bowman and Jacob Blyth could also soon be deemed surplus to requirements.

  8. Been a great player for us over a number of years, I agree with earlier posts he is a significant reason why we are still a Premiership Club. Not just in 2015 but if we had lost him at the last transfer window which looked a distinct possibility I doubt we would have been safe.

  9. I didn't actually understand the bowman signing too much as we signed him on deadline and we already had 2 starters up front who he was never going to put out the team and has been a waste of money so if he does go hopefully we get a fee for him but I think he's a decent back up players but not, because we paid a fee for him

I always felt he was identified as a replacement for Moult going last summer, when Johnson went near the end of the transfer window I think there must've been a panicky to sign anyone, therefore we ended up with a player we just didn't need.

  10. I watch Motherwell home and away and i honestly cant remember his last decent game for us before last night. No way should he get a new contract. Totally hides in most away games and there's a reason why we've been in a relegation battle. I wish him well but time to go.

I agree, if we'd been having this debate a fortnight ago, I think you would have struggled to find anyone willing to offer Ainsworth a new contract. He had a good game against Killie and then the 5 previous performances are forgotten.

I agree that he was hung out to dry by McGhee numerous times but for me it's time he moved on. Thanks for a few great memories.

  11. Good to see Jim McMahon celebrate with Stephen Robinson after the final whistle blew on Tuesday night. On an aside I've watched the foul leading up to Ainsworth's goal time and again and to me its clear that Taylor caught Frear with a trailing boot. Intentional or not he did bring him down.

I thought it was a foul at the time andvwatching it back, I've not changed my mind. I do think the ref was very poor with inconsistent decisions to similar fouls.

  12. I'm no fan of Dempster but she has turned Hibs around. The increase in crowds has been remarkable.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few seasons, when they are battling for mid-table mediocrity in the Premiership.

A Hearts supporting mate says he can already see a drop in support and expects season ticket sales to drop by over 25% this season.

  13. I doubt I'm the only one who thinks the loss of McManus hasn't been a huge blow and has caused us to be in such poor form since his injury. I know he has had his critics and we weren't great defensively when he was fit, but he organised Heneghan who looks lost without McManus

I honestly believe that if we had kept McManus and Tait fit, we would be sitting comfortably away from danger.

  14. I wasn't too surprised that we lost to Dundee our record since they got promoted has been poor against them. We have had at least 3 contentious decisions against them now in the last 2 years. Hopefully that's our bogey team out the way, I now fully expect 4 victories to finish the season, we are due some luck also hopefully a return of a fitter Pearson will help.

  15. I think i'm in the minority here but i think bowman has actually being useful in the past few weeks, albeit can't time his headers but he holds on to the ball well and for a big guy is fairly quick, on another day could have had a double as well. i'd be inclined to go with the same 11 as inverness, with maybe ainsworth in contention to start.

I thought Ainsworth made a huge difference when he came on against Inverness but I would be tempted to start with the same starting 11, with again bringing on Ainsworth on later on when the game inevitably opens up more.

  16. Samson would struggle to make my top 5 worst keepers I have seen at Fir Park. And there is such a gap between the top two and the rest of the field, he barely even registers.

    1) John Gardiner

    2) Howard Samaroff

    Several lightyears

    3) The pack

Have to agree John Gardiner was the worst goal keeper I've seen not just at Motherwell anywhere.

  17. Slightly off topic I guess. Are you old enough to remember the final McLean team (and the one big eck destroyed) that finished 3rd and 2nd with the likes of big buff, Rab McKinnon, Paul lambert and TC?

That was the best 'well team I've ever seen but having never seen your best team that often (Seldom get to games now due to living down south) it can't fairly compare.

I have to agree, the team that McLean built, was the best Motherwell team I've seen.

  18. Still very concerned about our defence, I take it Jules might be out if he withdrew from the Scotland under 21's match this week.

If there are any injury doubts, I would hope they err on the side of caution. We need the strongest team available for the Accies match and the other preceding games. Obviously a result would be nice on Saturday but it's vital for the Accies match.

  19.

Well considering he played in a defence which made multiple clean sheet records that pretty obvious.

The main problem some particularly vocal individuals had with Hateley is that they couldn't keep themselves from reading him and his birds twitter and getting wound up.

I think the clean sheet records would have been more to who was in goals at the time. Saying that I would have Hateley ahead of Tait.

  20. I would be much happier with McManus alongside Heneghan for the remainder of the season than Jules. Since the Dundee game we have been lucky that McHugh has been able to play in the middle of defence but we have missed him sitting in front of the defence offering some protection. The loss of McManus has been a huge blow in my opinion.
