Generally speaking I'm against taking OF players on loan, I'd rather a youngster given more of a chance or a punt taken on an uncut gem that could turn us a profit in a year or two. However, I can see the pros of putting Hastie back in the shop window to potentially net us something on the sell-on and also preventing a potential league rival getting the benefit from him on loan.

But what happens if we sign him and he is utter pish, a la end of his spell with us where every other team sussed he was a one trick pony? Or if Seedorf steps up this year as we all hope he does? We'd potentialy be stuck paying his inflated wages for the season, or forced into playing him due to some loan condition Rangers will no doubt insist on. I know all ifs and buts...

What if we sign him and he ISN'T utter pish?

I've just assumed as they've put him front and centre in the new strip launch picture there was no plans for a move in the works.

I thought the same about Sean Penn in Game of Thrones mind you.

I think you meant Sean Bean - sorry!

I recall the claims that this was going to be payback for our part in sending them down to the bottom rung of Scottish football. Their fans were so fucking sure they were "back" and that they'd get to send us down in the process was just icing on their shit cake.

I was hoping that we'd maybe win the tie by the odd goal in a few competitive games, but we didn't. We absolutely destroyed them. It's the kind of performances that will long be looked back on with joy, and rightfully so. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't dreamed as a kid of being part of a Motherwell team that did that to a Rangers or Celtic team.

The sheer arrogance of the media in Scotland writing us off as an afterthought, as they all eagerly looked forward to the return of the "old firm," only for us to completely fuck it up for them was amazing.

So yeah, it's far more than a couple of games to avoid relegation. Context is very much key in this situation in my opinion.

    This!!!!!

We'd normally be looking forward to seeing who's coming and going next season by now, so let's just batter ahead with this.

I know we don't know what the script is with contracts and suchlike, but for the time-being we have the following players out of contract at the end of the current season. Most deals end in May/June I believe.

    Rohan Ferguson

    Mark Gillespie

    Richard Tait

    Peter Hartley

    Charles Dunne

    Adam Livingstone

    Barry Maguire

    Mark O'Hara (end of loan)

    Tony Watt

    Christopher Long

    Christy Manzinga

    Christian Ilic

    Ronaldo Aarons (end of loan)

    Mikael Ndjoli (end of loan)

That's a sizeable chunk of the first team squad, although I'm sure some of them will be retained.

Personally, I'd try to keep Tait, Dunne, Watt, Long, and maybe Ilic. The rest I wouldn't be all that fussed about. If we can get O'Hara permanently then that would be a great piece of business.

Is Ferguson the goalkeeper who was on loan in N.Ireland?

If so I would keep him as Carson's cover.

I agree completely with everything else.

This could go on for a while though. Apparently 70% of the population will get it at some point but governments are willing to go into near lockdown when less than 0.1% of people have it.

It seems like madness to me. Surely it would be better for vunerable people to isolate and everyone else to get on with it.

So everyone, say, over 60 who has followed MFC all their lives doesn't count just so you can see your game regardless of them? Fuck off you selfish cunt.

With the best will in the world, if we do finish third, we will be arguably one of the weakest sides in recent times to do so.

We have a plethora of wingers/forwards which are utter dross. None of Illic, Seedorf, Manzinga, Ndjoli, Aarons or Hylton will go down in folklore as being anything like top class players. They are mostly jobbers, whereby six small salaries could arguably be condensed into 3 decent salaries and a higher calibre of player (a tactic that I along with others have been calling for). Watt is likely to move on as will Long. The later has been exceptional in the past couple of matches however has been a frustrating figure and questionably does not score enough goals for the amount of opportunities that his pace presents. We are probably looking at a completely new forward line for next season which wouldn't be a disaster.

In midfield, we will need to strengthen. Turnbull will be gone and Polworth has blown hot and cold all season and needs competion. O'Hara could however be worth offering a contract to. We need a new right back as Grimshaw still can't defend over 90 minutes and Tait's legs sadly look to be gone. A new centre half would also be welcome as well as a new goalkeeper given that Gillespie will be away.

It will yet again be a busy summer rather through necessity than design, particularly when it comes to forwards.

Of course. The in game tweets are obviously designed for fans who can't make games.

Given your view was curious to see how many you made to see how many times you might be following games online rather than being there to get some context for your opinion.

I've seen lots of people who don't make too many games say they've given up on the official twitter account completely and follow local newspapers and even on betting sites to try to get a feel for how things are going. That can't be right.

Personally I'd rather have too much information and filter out what isn't relevant than the sparse updates when I can't make it.

There waw also the mooted intention to cater for both preferrences with a "Match Day" service as provided by other clubs but that hasn't materialised yet.

I thought at one point you were going to say "were you at the game caller?" - James Sandison is apparently alive and well.

Your closing paragraph answers your own question.

Investing in Dalziel Is impractical. It’s managed by memorial/heritage trust  that wouldn’t relinquish any control to meet the requirements for our club given their main focus is their rugby interests. Suspect they’ll be strangled by their own constitution too.

Community hub facilities align with various funding opportunity streams - there are individuals placed at the club and society presently who know how to attract these to the clubs’ best advantage without joint venturing.

I think DHSFP FC and Hockey Club might have something to say about that.

Just been reading through this thread properly for the first time. Here’s a suggestion.

Incurring a loss at the same time as repaying outstanding debts of £1m seems a bit weird  but maybe  the loss of £436k was effectively on paper only, to ensure no tax liability and produce a loss which could be offset against future or past profits. If we had repaid the debt AFTER the tax year we would  have been in the position of having to pay tax on a profit of around £500k in the tax year.. Roughly about £100k. By being tax clever and repaying the debt before the end of the tax year, I’m guessing the Club have saved a decent amount both now and in the future. Hardly on the scale of Amazon or Starbucks , but all totally legal.

I’m not an Accountant so that might all be nonsense. But it makes sense to me. Many profitable Business find  ways to reduce profits and therefore tax liability. Good practice.  And the fact The Board do not seem at all bothered by the results might speak volumes. It also gives our Manager good reason to continue pleading poverty and to promote the need for Well Society subscriptions to keep rolling in.

You make some good points, but as you say you are clearly not an accountant.
