  1. From what I've picked up if the game get's postponed it will be moved to a neutral location on Sunday or potentially closed doors Monday .

I've got some empathy for Dundee here, not that many years ago we had similar issues with our pitch

I'd rather not have any play offs and prefer a straight 2 up, 2 down. If we do need to have one, however, then 2nd bottom vs 2nd top is the only way for me.

very sensible way forward and completely onboard with this.  It's a complete nonsense that someone who's 10-12 points could adrift could end up being promoted.

If that was deemed the appropriate way forward for promotion - them same would need to apply for relegation, which no-one would ever sign up for.

Overall the Scottish game is like a slow painful death and becomes more amateurish as each season passes.

  3. Was thinking likes of Callan Elliot, Nicholson, Moses should all get some game time.  Hopefully Adam Montgomery recovers and gets a few games.

Young Ross , Ferrie + Wells are the younger ones who've been in and around the squad.

  4. We're in a position where 1-2  wins will likely see us safe.

The youngsters/squad players who we have a chance of being first team regulars we need to start giving them game time.

Players we know are leaving start reducing their game time.

If, as Wee Dougie suggests on another thread, Bevis Mugabi will leave at the end of the season then the central defence will require major surgery.  Rightly so in my view. Its been our achilles heel this season and cost us a shedload of points. So:

    Mugabi - leaves

    Lamie - off to Dundee

    Casey - one more year

    McGinn?

Blaney - one more year but maybe out of favour?

    Butcher - time is up.

In my view we need a dominant centre half and a leader.

McGinn and Casey I'd keep.  Completely agree we need someone as a leader in the middle of those 2.

Similarly we need to replace both wingbacks - unless we can keep both Gent and Divine.

Defence has been an issue this season - I honestly feel the midfield is our weak link for a few years.  But then attack also needs some improvement. :)

Overall we need quality throughout the spine of the team.

  6. When signing players in their 30's they need to be of a quality that we wouldn't have been able to afford in their prime.

The issue for Halliday, Nicholson (who's 29) I think is the Jan window. Players who are kicking on a bit, not played much football , carrying niggling injuries take time to get up to speed and unlikely to be at their best until next season.

When we run as tight as squad size as we have, having several players in their twilight is risky and if we continue with a small squad we need to balance the quality/quantity/risk better than we have this season.

  7. We have been poor and deserve to be where we are .

similarly st mirren have had lots of positive press but there’s little between the teams . If we’d won our previous head to heads with them we’d be in their position .

appreciate we didn’t but is does show the fine margins .  All of which is a bit depressing as it just highlights how poor quality the Scottish  game has become .

pleased with a point today - it’s at least a fair result .

  8. Spittal has been impressive, particularly since Slattery's injury, which I I believe has a lot to do with the balance we've needed in midfield + coincides with when Bair has been a perm fixture.

It was always going to be a Hearts /Hibs/Abderdeen type move. Fair play to him and wish him all the very best.

He has been a rare commodity beyond his goals - a Motherwell player who's not spent weeks in the Physio room.

  9. VAR - hands up for those who think it's enhanced the game. ???................

Given the clubs are funding this, it would be reasonable for them to vote on whether it stays, goes or changes.  If changes it would have to be used sparingly for obvious errors only, and frankly offers very little value.

Other than giving us something else to moan and groan about I don't see any tangible value.

Top 6 not gone just yet. Need to rely on other results and win 3 In a row (or maybe won’t 2 and draw 1) so I agree it’s perhaps not likely but by no means dead and buried, yet! 7th is quite achievable. Any team can beat any other team on a given day so for me it’s all still up in the air

like the optimism :)  and it's far better tonic than a pessimistic view.

For me our issue has been consistency, we'd need to go on a run that we've not been able to do all season but like you say it's possible and can't think of a better time to go on said run.

  11. Personal view is he's the best manager we've had since McCall, which makes him the best in the last 10 years.

Rate him above Barralough, McGhee, Robinson, Alexander and Hammell.

Given we've reduced the spending, squad size and he's lost less than 1/3 of games, has a decent enough win record , has us 8th in the league. Plus seems to be a normal guy who cares, speaks well I'd put him close to McCall -who for the majority of time was excellent.

He's made plenty of mistakes but appears to learn and move players on quickly.

Add to that expect him to improve as he learns and grows.

I'm really happy to have him.

Launch that fucking VAR. as I’ve said repeatedly they’re now moving to actively seeking ways to “disallow” goals. Its killing the game and I bet I’m not the only person that’s nearly had enough.

completely agree - purpose like a few have mentioned is to correct an obvious error.

Feels like there's a bunch of people desperate to prove their value in each and every game, who quite frankly we don't need.  There's enough hangers on in footy as it is, having bunch of non players looking at freeze frames is a nonsense.

Even with freeze frames I really can't see how Bair handled the ball. Goal should have been allowed.

Re Shinnie - for me and in the spirit of the game, thats never a penalty either. I'd have been livid if we got a pen against us for that.

I’ve watched the highlights on tv and McCann gets it spot on - it’s high up on the sleeve against Bair and more towards the elbow for Shinnie. There is a panel that reviews the VAR decisions at the end of each round of games and I’m sure there will be an acknowledgment of the errors in this game; but that’s pointless (just like us yesterday). If we end up in the play-offs by a point, will the SFA or the SPFL save us? No chance.

When VAR was brought in, it was for clear and obvious errors; the scrutiny required to see Bair’s handball (??) tells you that it was clear or obvious. Collum was standing facing the Shinnie one, with an uninterrupted view - that’s surely clear and obvious.

As many others have said, VAR isn’t ruining the game; it’s the poor humans who are operating it. We had poor officials before VAR and all we have done, is out the same poor officials in front of a tv screen.

Brilliant post - sums it up to a tee

  14. Aberdeens game mgt was much better than ours.

They had better energy, better passing and won the majority of 1st and 2nd balls.

Like most teams that play us they dominated midfield , we needed more than just Miller as the defensive style midfield player.

That said it was a poor Aberdeen team and with a bit more energy and oomf we could have won.

Not great when our best attacking option off the bench is Gent. Brining on Nicholson rather than starting him made more sense.

I suspect we're now in no mans land. The slim chance of top 6 is gone, there's still a slim chance of being caught at the bottom.

Real shame  - we simply blew it yesterday. It's much more fun when thinking about progressing up the league.

Poor game, a few players struggling today. When Spittal has an off game it definitely affects us.

On a plus side is we have three 17 yr old Scots on the park. Looks ok for the future.

end of the day though it’s a loss when it should have been a draw. VAR has screwed us. I don’t think either side deserved a win.

Agree - other than vale I thought all forwards were poor

Changing wingbacks didn’t work today either - no real pressure from anyone

1-1 would have been fair - should never have been ruled out

Why is Zdravkoski not playing?  He does all the donkey work in the midfield and allows Spittal to play further forward. Spittal is ineffective the way we are playing.

Miss Davor or Paton . Nicholson isn’t the grating type - Don’t think it works with 4 attacking players and only miller working in midfield

Equally McGinn isn’t a left wingback - poor to play him there

It’s been depressingly predictable so far. After beating Rangers at Ibrox the other week following that up with a dismal performance and a loss at home to a poor Aberdeen side was always on the cards.

Sadly agree - very predictable .

once again our midfield looks very weak and completely overrun
