  1. What a crackin' reminder of a great 3 days - Carlsberg don't do away trips ................
  2. I take it you mean Aidy Boothroyd
  3. Your rigth MMcG isn't the only cog in the wheel, nor was it his decision to allow contracts to run their course, the players in question did that by exercising their right not to take up offers from the club - while I appreciate he will have had an input over who should be offered deals or not, ultimately the buck stops with John Boyle. If we offer 'x' and the player says no thanks - what are the club supposed to do, they can't go out and sign a replacement because they are bound by FIFA/UEFA guidelines and the transfer window, therefore can't do any business until it is open - must make forward planning a nightmare. Stephen Hughes had already made up his mind - to people privately - that he wasn't here for the long haul - despite the noises he may have made in the press. Don't get too hung up on the fact that MMcG has been central to all this - it will just eat away at you and make you bitter - he's gone, there are other extreme factors at work here, which is pushing our already meagre budget to the limit.
  4. Anyone know of anyone organising Buses?
  5. What a lot of tosh - why is it suddenly MMcG's fault that we don't have a team. The players have the upper hand in all of this. I don't believe for a minute that MMcG deliberately set out to weaken Motherwell (as conspiracy theories go, that's quite preposterous). If players don't want to sign conracts, they are under no obligation to do so despite what John Boyle, MMcG, Stoney or you Milo might want them to do. Let's get real in all this - the situation might just be as scottr has suggested
  6. Well done - you've so much to be proud of girls, as have the club -it was a brilliant effort, that just fell short. Nothing to be dispirited about though, Kilwinning were, as Angie said, a very good team, all over the park, but the standouts were the 3 smallest girls on the park for Kilwinning - a handful for any defence. A good learning experience for both sets of players - 13's and 15's (and no doubt coaches) and I'm sure they will put that to good use in the rest of season. Good to see so many there in Claret and Amber - what a great set-up they have at Toryglen. Well done again all involved.
  7. Good luck the steelburds (love that nickname trafficlight) tomorrow
  8. Just a quick heads up that both the U13's and U15's MFC Girls team will compete this Sunday in the finals of their respective age groups. As far as I know the games will take place at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Prospecthill Road, Glasgow - adjacent to Hampden Park. Kick Off's are:- Under 13's 12.00 p.m. Under 15's 1.30 p.m. Get along and support the girls in their attempt to capture the first piece of silverware this season. Information correct at the time of press - but no doubt Angie will correct any glaring ommissions. C'mon the well girls - Good Luck and give 'em hell Amy!!!!!!!!!
  9. Why? What reasons are they. I Can't believe that Billy Reid wouldn't be a realistic target.
  10. I agree with most of your argument, but I have read this type of comment on the many threads extolling the virtues of various candidates, in most part to justify the posters particular favourite. However, while I agree that there is undoubtedly untapped resources out there, as MM found out, the best contacts in the world are no good if the players themselves do not see their future, or shop window for that matter in this country. Briefly watched the Cup Final recently and one of the de Boer brothers was a summariser, asked, if given what he had just witnessed first hand, would he sign for Rangers at this time - his answer an unequivocal 'NO'. On this basis I feel the argument may be more compelling for thinking outside the box - yes appoint a foreigner, be it Luc or someone else, because it may just be that we might need something a little different tactically, but working with Scottish/English players. Personally I wouldn't be averse to the appointment of the 2 Jimmy's - Claderwood and Nicholl, but please leave the Airdrie w....r Clark where he belongs - on the scrapheap
  11. Condolences to the Kilmarnock family. In this day the term legend is vastly overused - not in this case.
  12. Agree fully MB. I thought I was a fairly rational person - but after 40+years of supporting the 'Well I still can't be when it comes to my team. Don't know whether I would even want McGhee back should he decide against moving to the sheepies All respect for the man gone (as I say all rationality has disappeared) - don't let the door hit you on the erse on the way out. Nice while it lasted, but let's get someone in now who actually wants to carry out a job for MFC. By the way my choice - Billy Reid !!! (Experience, particularily on a shoestring and what he has done at Accies is nothing short of remarkable, not only that but had them playing some good football).
  13. Yeah sure - we believe ya
  14. Ha Ha you couldn't make it up - what does it imply? - oh yes it implies that the game is taking place on the 12th July (before anyone chimes in, yes I know the implications that Beesher is referring to). The fact the piece was written entirely innocently is precisely why the article should have remained unaltered in the first place - what next? no reference to 17 March, in future fixture lists - just in case it happens to offend someone. What is offensive? - its a date for f...s sake, if anything its ironic - nothing more, nor should it have to be justified by the club. Let others think what they will, we are Motherwell - the only people who could be offended by that date are either side of the bigotry debate, the OF or Beesher - and if the date of the fixture was the 12th of July, or for that matter the 17th March (St Paddy's Day for those who didn't know) then leave it at that. In trying to appease one side, which is what has been done in this instance (as suggested by Beesher), then the door has been opened for the other side to make their remarks about where our bus fare is spent. Thanks for the respone 'Flow - appreciate the sentiment if not the actions.
  15. Nope and you'll be the 'Moan Police' then. I feel I have every right to question why such a ridiculous change to a 'news report' was made on the official site, on the basis of a 'Good Spot' by another poster. Who precisely are we attempting to appease here by making any such change. The 12th of July does exist both here and in the southern hemisphere and it doesn't hold the same meaning to everyone throughout the world as it does in the West of Scotland.
  16. Good Spot ? - where is the good spot in that. Why change it - is the game not being played on that date . If its for any other reason, then that's taking things too far!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just had a look at the official site and it seems like we no longer have a 12th of July on the calendar - the Celtic game taking place in "early July"? - what a lot of crap - why change it? Have the 'date police' had a humour bypass on this and the official site.
  17. That's exactly where they were held - great day out in the sunshine, U13's played some sparkling football again. Was really nice to see so much C&A. Again the scoreline doesn't really reflect the pattern of play. Though comfortably in control for much of the game, it took some fine saves from the Motherwell goalkeeper Danielle to keep the Forfar girls at bay (She doesn't get a lot to do in most games, due to the sheer dominance at times of the girls at this age group - but as in the Falkirk tie earlier in the competition, showed her abilities with some really cracking saves. A double save in particular, early in the second half deserving of a mention). A cracking all round perfomance from the girls, with particular mention to Deborah who ran the show from the middle of the park, pushing the team forward when need be and rallying the troops defensively. Good luck in the final to both girls teams. Angie got your text - will get the pictures to you ASAP - don't worry won't publish them on the Web - wouldn't know how to . Do we have a venue yet for the final (Hampden?).
  18. Hey Ho!!!! Here we go again. If he and Leitchy go, they go. Won't lose a whole lot of sleep over it - its the same with managers as it is with players - we're a stepping stone to something better - if that means Aberdeen (and lets not kid ourselves that they aren't a much bigger club than we are, they are), then so be it. I would take their ex-managerial team in the blink of an eye. Never out the top six and Europe in 3 of those years. Not bad going Man are you totally delusional or what. Perhaps not in terms of transfer-fees, none of us have any budgets for that, but in financial terms I would imagine they are streets ahead of us in wage offers - the only thing that is likely to sway one or two players is the move further north. Lets face it they are a bigger draw for McGhee and I'm quite sure he will see them as a much more attractive package than us, with the added possibility of perhaps offering a challenge to the Old Firm
  19. Great performance from the U13's today Angie - you and the coaches really have these kids playing some superb football. Anybody considering going along, don't be put-off as I might have been at one time, that its 'only Girls football' the standard of football is excellent and worth an hourt of anyones time. Get along to the semi-finals and cheer the girls on to the Final. Oh and 'Flow get some website space sorted out and give the girls teams some 'official' backing
  20. Like Fal_Dosser, Special and others I have watched Motherwell for all of those 40 years that is being referred to (if misquoted) in this thread and I have to agree with MM - last season some of our football was simply mesmerising (a bit like saturday's tactical formation ) and probably the best I have witnessed in 40 years. All the teams from the eras quoted had their own special traits and there were some good teams during that period. There was a time I would have argued till you were blue in the face that the best team of that era was Ian St John's team - the first Motherwell team I saw winning against Celtic - strong and aggresive, with skill (but certainly not as smooth a unit as the team of last season). The games already mentioned last season - Hibs (LC), Aberdeen, Dundee Utd were all great performances, but the one that stood out for me was the last match of the season at Easter Road. Admittedly there was nothing to play for, but the team knocked the ball around with abandon - fast, fluid, skilful, attacking and entertaining and in terms of skill and overall team play was one of the finest performances from a Motherwell team. Yes there have been more important results throughout the 40 odd years, but none to my eyes that will be bettered than that night. Got to agree though that the McGhee comments are over the top and would rather have him here than any of the other managers within the SPL at the moment.
  21. Going through early to the Brother-in-laws, then probably to the Cooper for a few pints, thanks for the offer anyway. Pop in if you've got time. Confident about the top 6 - think Europe is beyond us this year (damn that Nov-Dec period). Still the memories of Nancy are still fresh. Hope to see you Saturday and that the wee fella has a great day - without the need for the Ninentdo
  22. Good for you Davie - glad to hear of another addition to the Whitburn Supporters Club. Hope he's not of age to buy us a drink the next time we get to Europe. Allez les 'Well. Derek
  23. Congratulations to both girls on their achiecement. Angie is it your intention to provide information on all the girl's teams this season? Just that I was up at Dunfermline the other week watching the u13's (my niece plays before anyone chips in with a smart comment) and enjoyed a great game between 2 evenly matched sides and there wasn't any mention on the web about it. For those who are interested the girls progressed to the next round on the back of a 5-2 victory (after Extra-Time).
