  1. There's almost a Roy of the Rovers style notion about the OP's suggestion. Player paid for by the supporters scores the winning goal in the Cup final and we all live happily ever after..... In reality though I don't see it being a realistic proposition. There have been several scenarios put forward already but the one that instantly comes to my mind is the unfortunate player "paid" by the supporters who happens to be spotted out socially on a Saturday evening after a particularly gut-wrenching loss in the afternoon. You can see the venom packed thread about said player pissing up the fans hard earned against a wall already.... An investment in the club is much more easy to justify when it comes to situations like keeping the club's head above water or as fergi4 has pointed out the feeling that in some small way you are contributing towards an infrastucture that could help deliver a McFadden or O'Donnell who could bring success on the park and a boost to the coffers when they move on.
  2. I think McCall sees Boab as a striker whereas Ojamaa is more of a forward. When Ojamaa came and had that early burst of goals McCall was heard to say he was a little surprised as he'd appeared more of a creator than finisher during his time on trial. And I still think that plays a part in McCall's thinking given Henrik gives him the option of playing him out wide as well as centrally with another partner up front. Whether the fact McHugh was given a start at Rugby Park around this time last season and didn't really do anything special may also have played a part in his thinking. But I do agree with your point that there may come a time when McHugh will become de-motivated if he isn't given what he perceives to be a fair crack of the whip, if he has delivered all that has been asked of him the game before.
  3. I hope you are right. Some of our squad are building up a fair bit of European experience behind them now if you take the number of appearances on its own. Maybe this is the wrong term but the games against the more difficult opposition have been generally spread a couple of years apart so its debatable whether the lessons learned opposition like Nancy, Steaua and Odense have been forgotten a little by the time the next game against "better" opposition has come around. With that gap between Panathinaikos and Levante being no more than a couple of weeks, as you say I hope the lessons learned there will be much fresher in the mind. As for the game itself, whilst its maybe not the Champions League we were all so looking forward to its only Sunday and I'm already as excited as fuck!
  4. A great three points. Granted we did the square root of fuck all against them last season but I've always kind of viewed Killie in much the same standing as ourselves so I hope the result today is an indicator of positive things for the season ahead. The result was all the more impressive when you consider the youthful nature of the team that saw the result out in the second, particularly the defence. Last season was great for digging out a point here, three points there away and if the likes of Cummins, Hetherington and Francis-Angol can quickly develop that character and mindset that's required to do that, then that's got to be a good thing. Obviously we've got the Europa League on Thursday but let's just let things build league wise and see how far we can go.

  6. There were some but I'm sure I remember hearing they were up from London rather than travelling from Albania.
  7. Aye, between 1000 - 1400 I believe.
  8. I think a lot depends on who will be fit. I'm working on the assumption that both Humphrey and Daley will be absent with this bag of shite below. I'm wondering with it being Francis-Angol's first start whether McCall might want to go with a back five to give the defence a little extra cover. The bank of three central defenders and two centre mids in Las and Carswell may also allow Zaine to make use of the attacking prowess he's reported to have down the wings. Tom Hateley to a lesser extent too. You've still got a bit of flexibility with Murph and Law capable of playing wide if McCall wanted to go with four in the middle to protect our lead when Higgy pops up with his first of the season..... ***** Randolph ***** ***** Francis-Angol ******* Cummins ****** Ramsden ****** Hutchinson ****** Hateley ***** ***** Carswell ***** Lasley ***** ***** Law ***** ***** Higdon ***** Murphy ******
  9. But how many players did Boyle actually directly provide the funding for? I certainly remember McGhee commending him for providing the money for Chris Porter. It was speculated, though I'm not sure if ever confrmed, that he may have done something similar for Stephen Hughes. But it was hardly on a grand scale was it over his decade plus on the board was it? To me providing funding for a specific transfer or wages of a player is quite different to providing credit at zero or very little interest to cover a section of the season where cash flow was tight. I think its worth keeping in mind the distinction between the two.
  10. In the grand scheme of things. Who gives a fuck? Let's get back to plotting the downfall of these Spaniards!!!
  11. I can't access it at work to check but I'm sure the official has it as 27,000 or abouts.
  12. A 98 seater I believe so after the team, management the remaining staff and the journos there weren't too many spaces I think.
  13. Kris, I'm not really into listening to 'Well games I can't make on the radio. I actually get more worked up listening to the commentary than I do watching. But I was interested to listen to the game tonight - first time I've listened to comms on MFC TV and I quite enjoyed it I have to say. I'll certainly tune in again if you cover more of the 20's games. A good mix of commentary, opinion and chat all with a Motherwell slant. As for the feed it appeared from nowhere sometime after the quoted 6:45pm start. Is it worth even have a recorded announcement on a loop saying something like "MFC TV Commentary will commence shortly blah blah" so that folk know its just to start rather than questioning whether their feed is actually working? Silence at half-time - though you suggest from your comment that isn't usually the case. If it was again, what about an recorded message you can bung on whilst your having a pie/pee break at half-time? The commentary went a couple of times during the second half though for me came back up pretty quickly. As I said for a first time listener I quite enjoyed it. Good work and hope the club continue to back the 20's league with things like the online commentary and match programmes etc.
  14. Happy to stand corrected. Was going on what Tony and John Bryce were telling me at the game today.
  15. 1-1 is possibly a result you might have been a little disappointed at before the game but considering we were 1-0 down with 10 men with less than half an hour to go, on the back of the midweek exertions, its a result I was more than happy to take. I thought the first half was very similar to a lot of what we've seen already this season. Lots of possession and plenty spraying around the park but really lacking a cutting edge. Last season we were on the front foot within about 15 minutes of the season starting and the confidence visibly flowed from there-on-in. Maybe we just need to get our noses in front in a game so we can build and take things from there. But it never quite happened. Saints looked fairly dangerous on the break but perhaps the closest they came was through Randy. Half-time I thought the change was quite a positive one but Saints were comfortably the better side before and after the game seemed to turn their way. Without having seen it again I wondered if the penalty was more a case of 2nd time lucky as there was a challenge where Hasselbaink went down shortly before where I was waiting from Brines to point to the spot. The sending off thereafter seemed particularly harsh - though as has been said if he was going by the letter of the law then perhaps there's no room for argument there. It was a bit of a sickener conceding when we had subs lined up to come on. As for the subbies themselves Francis-Angol coming on seemed logical, taking Lasley off seemed a little less so. The next quarter of an hour was pretty hard viewing and it seemed almost inevitable that St Johnstone would put the game to bed. Great to equalise out of the blue and add to what is becoming a very decent record of eeking out results a man down. And then we almost won the bloody thing with Mannus clawing away a Higdon header and Hutchie's effort being blocked on the line. Certainly mixed emotions after the last quarter of an hour.

  21. Cheers Gordon. Received safe and sound through paypal. Yours and a further contribution from Donald means we are already close to a third of the way to meeting our first years subs. Thanks again guys!
  22. Hmm, not sure about that this time around. I think if it was on a British channel be that terrestrial or satellite and they were sure they could show it in decent quality then certainly aye. But as it stands the best we are likely to have is a stream the quality of which remains to be seen and I don't even if know if the Cooper suite even has the facility to stream stuff to the TV's its got in there.
  23. I'm a wee bit surprised at some of the reactions already posted. I'll grant you it was by no means a classic but I'm not sure I would class it quite as bad as some have. I suppose when all's said and done disappointing though it was not to win, you revert to the old mantra that avoiding defeat on the road in the SPL is never a bad thing. How good or bad a result it was is perhaps only going to become clear later in the season when we see how County fare in general and how other sides of our ilk get on up there. As has already been said there were a few factors to make the game additionally awkward with it being their flag day and us on the back of a European game but I thought we bossed much of the game. We seriously lacked a cutting edge and creativity in the final third of the park though and that's something we can hopefully remedy as time goes on. Reasonable start on the face of it. Could have been better, could have been worse and we'll see how we go.

  25. Just don't listen! Don't read the shite! The world of a fitba fan is a far far happier place when you avoid the likes of the Radio Clyde phone in and the Daily Record. I'll bow to a sports journalists ability to break a story certainly but so much of football writing and broadcasting is actually no more than an opinion - which when it boils down to it is no more valid than yours or mine. Having the platform of a radio phone in or a column does not automatically make you an authority on the subject.
