  1.

Just get the feeling if we had Humphrey and Ojamaa in the squad last night it could have been a different story, going forward at least.

If we had Wullie Pettigrew & Dixie Deans playing we would've smashed them.

Ooops thought this was the completely irrelevant thread.

  2. Yeah we will score 3 over there just like we were gonna score 3 in Greece then 3 in Spain & look how they turned out. Right now a goal in off Sutton's arse would a major achievement over there never mind scoring 3.

  3. Panathinikos never played their first league match till the 25th August ,our games against them were 31st July/8th August by the second leg we had played our first Spl game

Levante never played their first league match till 19th August..........by that time we had played Pana home n away and 3 league games........again like tonight/last season in Europe we were beaten by teams that had better players than us...simples

Not denying they are better teams than us all im saying is if these games had been later in the season we would give a better account of ourselves. When you are playing teams like this in your first competitive game of the season then you will always be up against it. I think as it is our best hope in Europe is to get drawn against a glamour team so at least we get some money as getting papped out by nobodies doesn't do us any good at all. Or do a St Johnstone & beat a pishy seed, get seeded for the next round so you get to the play offs then get a glamour team in the play off & rake in even more cash.

  4. Europe comes just too early for us. They were sharper as expected as they are already playing competitive games. At the end of last season we were playing so well we would have fancied our chances against Pana or Levante but when we played them it was too early in the season. This year will be the same at the end of the year we will be saying why can't the Euro games be now? Still can't believe people thought we would hump them  they obviously have short memories from our recent Euro adventures.

I agree with send the reserves over there we have an important league game on the Sunday and can't risk injury/fatigue for a meaningless game.

  5. If we lose an early goal the tie could be over before we even get started. Hopefully we can keep it tight and possibly take a 1-0 lead going into the second leg. This team are seeded for a reason, and the reason is they have better players, play in a better league against better opposition. If we do manage to beat them over the two legs it will go down as one of our greatest ever results. Fingers crossed.

St Johnstone are seeded for a really pish reason so seeding isn't everything & while i think we have the capability to get horsed we can also sneak a narrow win by them underestimating us. The tie depends on us keeping it tight for the first 20 mins. If we lose as early goal then the tie is gone.

  6. The Champions League is as boring as bat shit. It's the same teams playing each other every year and cancelling each other out. Time to get an open draw back get some of the big teams knocked out early by bigger teams & get some Pingu Utd's into the later stages so they can get humped & we see loads of goals instead of the 1-0 borefests we get just now.

Look at St Johnstone they will get to the play off stage in the EL thanks to being seeds against an even diddier team so if they get a lucky draw in the play offs they get to the EL group stages. How UEFA must be shittin themselves about that as no money to made from St Johnstone.

The St Johnstone thing sums up the whole problem with the seeding arrangement. They win a tie against a pretty poor seeded team & they become seeds themselves and get paired against a minnow with a great chance of getting to the play offs whereas Motherwell with a far better Euro coefficient are not seeded & as such get paired against a team that will more than likely pump them. How can that be classed as fair when our efforts last year far exceeded St Johnstone's?

  7. If McCall said he was looking to bring in 2 more players and we sign one on a 6 month loan, I find it difficult to believe we have blown our remaining budget.

That was before we found out we had to fork out for a jolly to Russia.

  8. McManus, Lasley, Hammell, Sutton.... I'd say we are not short of a physical presence, bullish attitude and a will to win now.

Hopefully McManus will bring composure to Hutchison's play as I always think he could be a central defender in the Tony Adams mould.

You mean standing with his arm in the air claiming offside for everything

  9. As much as i am delighted with our signings i find it hard to believe that some people are having a go at other teams for signing a load of nobodies. We have been one of the best teams in the league recently and many of our players were complete unknowns until they signed for us. Sure they could be a lot of Omar Daley's but equally they could be a Humphrey or an Ojamma. This is one of the first times in recent years we haven't brought in a few unknowns for the English lower leagues which has been very fruitful for us so will be interesting to see how it pans out.

  10. A little snippet from the Getty Images site about the Argentina tour...

During the Argentina tour we wore claret and amber striped shirts, our original amber shade was much darker than it is now and can be difficult to make out in the sepia/mono pictures from the time. For the away kit we would wear black shorts instead of white.

Very informative but in the bottom left picture is that guy wearing a bucket hat? Looks like they just pulled a ringer from the stands to make up the numbers.

  11. But If the income is dropping then there can't be a limit on how much you cut back can there?

I don't like the cut backs but as long as income is falling there is no real choice.

As for McHugh, someone said that McHugh has scored more goals for us than he's had starts. That's not a bad record to be honest. I would like to judge him after about 10 starts than 10-20 minutes in games given that some of them may be over by the time he's on the park.

Isn't that exactly how Daley was judged although he was given even less time on the park but it was still considered by most to be enough evidence he was pish. Not saying he was good but was never gonna get a chance to impress with the pitiful amount on time he had on the pitch.

  12. What if he turned up on Monday?

What if he's been told to rest by a specialis

Don't you think the club would know if either of these were true and not just say they have no idea what's happening with him?

Anyway you may be right it's just my opinion that his absence tells me he's off assessing other offers & won't be our player next year.

  13. The general opinion seems to be that Faddy would benefit from a full pre season in his battle to get back to full fitness. Well with the first day of pre season been & gone & he's nowhere to be seen (the club completely unaware of where he even is) then for me we can forget seeing him back as a Motherwell player next year.

  14. Thinking we can blood youngsters coz Hearts are as god as relegated is foolish. Even if they do go down don't forget that 2nd bottom goes into a play off so we need to finish at least 3rd bottom to be safe. If you wanna blood youngsters then do it for the right reasons & not coz you think relegation isn't an issue.

Personally i don't think we will be anywhere near the wrong end of the table but who will is far from certain.

  15. Sometimes you have to move quick to secure the target you are after. Im quite sure that Vigours would have been off to someone else if we hadn't moved when we did.

Im also convinced people claim others are panty wetters just to hide their own incontinence.

  16. Can only judge Sutton on what i have seen recently and that was when he was on loan to Australia. He was pretty much rank rotten & very rarely if ever played a whole game. Maybe he just wasn't interested but yeah he was pretty mince.

  17. What i got from the long haired bawbags interview was that Tom Hateley will only sign for a club if he's guaranteed a place in midfield. If we haven't offered him a contract that could be why.

Also seen Craig Gordon says he's nearing full fitness again. I would be happy to have him as back up to Hollis until he reaches fitness then we have ourselves a top quality keeper again.

  18. When McCall gets back from his holidays (whenever that is) he should be straight onto Higdon, Hateley etc & saying ok times up are you staying or going. Can't afford to be messed about Jennings style with so many new players required. Would not be impressed if we missed out on a target as we weren't sure if Higdon was leaving then a week later he pisses off.

  19. I could understand all the doom & gloom if we were sevco or Hearts but we are not & i'm sure we will just go on as normal with possibly a few poor seasons on the horizon but nothing too bad to worry about. All the more reason to enjoy the good times while we can.
