  1. Watt wouldnt have been my choice earlier in the window purely down to the baggage he appears to have carried with him throughout his career. However, with the window now closed and with no other prospect of bolstering our striking options until the end of the season, we just have to get behind the guy and hope he still has sufficient in him to bring something positive to the team. There is no doubt the boy has talent. If he can sort out whats between his ears its still not too late for him to resurrect his career.
  2. I found both to be similary infuriating to watch but Frears assist stats must have him ahead of Hylton?
  3. Carroll is a decent full back at our level. With a better/more confident player in front of him he would bring a lot more to the table. Hylton is a hard worker who clearly takes on board the managers instructions. But his confidence is so fragile you fear for him every time he gets the ball. I dont know how you fix that other than the player himself working on his mental strength. Grimshaw is different. He is a player without a real position trying to do his very best because he is the best option we have there. He does a decent job, but he is not a natural as can be seen every time he gets in a position to cross the ball then cuts back and plays it inside cause he clearly doesnt trust himself to deliver. He also quite often gets his body shape all wrong when he is actually in a good position to defend, making it easy for the attacker to get the better of him. All that said, he is still a better option than Tait right now which is really disappointing given how good he was for us when he arrived.
  4. Since our return we have Despatched Dundee easily in Cup. Gave a gutsy battling display to win 3 points in Aberdeen. Competed very well against an improving Hibs team and could easily have earned 3 points. Played shit on a plastic pitch and got what we deserved. Went toe to toe with the treble treble winners and should have gone in at half time at least level. Ran out of steam second half and succumbed to a team far superior to us in every way. Struggling to see where this implosion in our form is? If we turn up on Saturday we win. And I dont just mean the team......
  5. Thought we played very well first half. I must confess at thinking it was a bold team selection that could come back to haunt us, but we were able to go pretty much toe to toe with a very good Celtic team and only some poor finishing stopped us going in at half time with a deserved share of the spoils. However, everything we did well first half we seened to stop doing second half. The second goal is really poor and after that we seemed to lose our way. The first substition is a shocker. If Aarons was cramping fair enough, but to think Seedorf was the answer is quite incredible. We basically gave them the game at that point. Anyone of the other subs would have been a better alternative. It was no surprise at that point it all went south. For all the result was disappointing, our fans need to take a reality check. The first half performance had lots to commend it and those giving Polworth a hard time might want to go back and look at his contribution first half. The crazy shot from 25 yards apart he was involved in nearly everything good we did. Always available, always looking to drive forward and play the forward pass. He worked incredibly hard for the team. Yes he faded badly second half and his delivery was terrible, but he wasnt alone. Fast becoming the boo boys new favourite. We have had some tough fixtures, but Livvy game apart, we have coped with them well. Plenty to be positive about going into Saturday. Toughen up princesses!
  6. Rolando was excellent until he was subbed. He looks like he could be a very positive addition to the squad in the way Ariybi was last year. Hopefully he can recover in time for St Mirren on Saturday.
  7. What about Chip and Kipper? Ive heard Buff Martin is ragin though!
  8. Great article. Right up to the last paragraph which was totally unecessary. I will definitely go buy the book.
  9. Celtic have been playing with Griffiths and Edouard up top so wouldnt be surprised to see Mugabe come in for this one. We are gonna need extra numbers in defence and midfield to try and cut out the space these guys create and try hit them on the break. Keep it really tight and play them on the counter like Ross County did at Celtic Park would be my preference. Gillespie Grimshaw Gallagher Mugabe Hartley Carroll OHara Campbell Donnelly Polworth Mazinga or Ndjoli Could possibly swap one of Campbell or OHara for Aarons as an out ball.
  10. Not the way we used to certainly. But Hylton and Illic are fairly lightweight given the way the game was likely to go. O'Hara and Manzinga would have given us more physical threat. Not sure whats happening with Ndjoli. Id quite like to see what he has to offer fairly soon.
  11. As soon as I saw the lineup I was concerned. The sooner we understand that we shouldnt be trying to play football on these pitches, the sooner we might get results. Livvy get success on it playing a certain way. Time we wised up and do what they do. It might be ugly at times but its winning football and you have to play whats in front of you. Disappointing result but back on grass Wednesday night we have a chance to show we can still play football.
  12. Get them matched up in midfield and out Livvy them! OHara for Hylton and Manzinga for Ilic. Intae thum!
  13. That sounds so good I want to do it! Do you think they would do a deal for 51 year old weans?
  14. More likely Gillespie Grimmy Hartley Gallagher Carroll OHara Campbell Donnelly Polworth Hylton Long Think we will match them up physically again like we did Aberdeen. Depends on how the pitch is running. If its wet Hylton might be ok but he struggled on matchday 1 when it was really dry. Couldnt get it out from under his feet. Maybe Ndjoli thru the middle with Long otherwise.
  15. Really disappointed to see James Scott go. I think he has a lot of talent and it would have been nice to see him realise it in claret and amber before heading off on the next stage of his development. However, the days of our young players getting over 100 games before they move on appear to be over. In respect of the fee, anyone who thinks £1.5m isnt great business for a 19 year old with 36 appearances to his name needs to have a word with themselves. I wish the boy all the best. Hopefully he will do us proud and the sell on for his next move will be even bigger!
  16. I think it was when he had his column in the Evening Times. The club response was in the match programme. To be fair, there was probably a lot more to be critical about back then and with very few outlets to do so. Clubs were also far less used to scrutiny and criticism. These days Flow would probably invite him in for a cup of tea and an interview to put the record straight and pump it out as a club promo! Times have definitely changed for the better!
  17. So can Scott, Njdoli, Manzinga and McIvor. Watts goal returns are hardly startling. If we are looking to improve the squad Im not sure Watt is the man. Happy to be proved wrong though.
  18. Actually Id like to revise my comment. Id love is to give them hope by beating Celtic next week...... Only to take it right back again in the above scenario!
  19. No thanks. Wont do anything Chris Long cant. We need someone who can hold the ball up when we are under pressure. Id rather have Curtis Main back on loan than Tony Watt, but ideally someone who could also score goals.
  20. New St Mirren Park has a capacity of 8000. The 1600 tickets allocated is 20% as required by the competition guidelines. If St Mirren can sell 6400 (which isnt a ridiculous notion) good luck to them. They owe us nothing in that regard. That being the case, Im not sure how folk think the club should distribute the tickets if its not through season tickets and Well Society memberships? Season ticket holders are also able to buy online (Society members have to telephone) so there is an emphasis on those going every week having easiest access to tickets. Not sure what else the club could have done to please people.
  21. Sorry, I used to despise both with equal measure. But given their behaviour since they reformed, I sincerely hope to never see SEVCO win a major trophy.....
  22. Quite happy to wait until after the split and deal them a championship denying blow! Be nice to break our duck when it matters most (to them). Delicious in fact!
  23. Strikers depend very much on the team they are playing in and the service they are provided. Shankland has done well at Ayr and Dundee United because both teams were flying high and creating lots of chances. From what Ive seen, the boy definitely has something about him and has clearly worked to improve himself. He is still only 24 so can develop even further. Whether he scores goals for United next year will depend a lot on how they recruit when steppjng up a level. But he would definitely score goals in our current team. Thats not gonna happen though so lets move on and talk about who we could get.
