  1. Another small step on the road to recovery but also a reminder how slim the margins are between success and failure in this league.
  2. Ainsworth. Purely on his first half performance and his brief flurry at the end. McManus would be my next choice as he was the pick of the defenders 2nd half.
  3. Has Freedman been interviewed? I've scrolled back a few pages and cant see mention of him. Id be quite happy with that although Van der Gaag is somewhat intriguing. Either could totally blow up in our face of course!
  4. The diminutive Twardzik gets my vote as well.....
  5. Ditto. Honourable mention to ZFA for his first half performance.
  6. Really good first half. Best this season. Rode our luck a little but still think we deserved to be ahead at break. Thought we were hard done by when Thomson shat red carding their defender when Sutton was through on goal and although we cant say it cost us the game, these things can be crucial. No arguing Utd were the better team second half. Losing Lawson hurt us as did the poor substitutions so over the piece no real arguments. Plenty to be positive about going forward into the league games.
  7. I will be coming up for this. Its the Scottish Cup FFS and the gate price is deserving of a decent turnout. Yes we have been shite so far this season and if the game goes to form they should pummell us, but we all thought the same about the league game and it never happened. The team need us. The club needs the finance. Get yer arse to this game and show what supporting our team is all about. We NEED to win this. I dont care if we win ugly. Lets just win. COYW!
  8. A number of great performances tonight mainly due to grit hunger and determination. Went for Lasley. Real captains performance tonight after what has been a really disappointing season by his standards.
  9. Hunger and desire all over the pitch. You have to ask, where has that team been all season? Fair enough, apart from Reid, everyone was played in a more or less natural position, and you anticipate a response after the manager resigns, however..... Still not perfect but a massive improvement on previous weeks and an amazing 3 points against the team top of the league. Onwards and upwards.
  10. Excellent post. I agree with it word for word. (Apart from who signed Humphrey ;-) )
  11. Given the perilous state of our finances, the cup always matters.
  12. I have a mate who is a Palace fan. He says Dougie Freedman did a great job on a tight budget and brought lots of young players through. He credits him as being a significant influence in their rise to the Premiership. Sounds like the kinda guy we are looking for.
  13. Sad to see Stuart McCall go but given our recent results and total lack of form its probably for the best. I think it says a lot about his integrity that he walked rather than hang around for a pay off. His record as Motherwell manager is unparalleled in my lifetime and he has given me many of my favourite Motherwell memories. I wish him all the best for the future and hope that in the current financial climate we can attract another manager that can get us out of this mess. All the best Stuart.
  14. Fraser Kerr. Pretty solid performance at RB and made some decent runs going forward. Jack Leitch was the best of the rest.
  15. I have family coming up from Leeds this weekend. I will be going to the game but my 8 year old nephew will be in tow so I will be restricted as to where I can go. Happy to meet in the Park Hotel about 2pm if anyone is up for it.
  16. Lol! Its actually true. Eye witness account.
  17. Clarkson and Peasrson back training with the team at Dalziel today.....
  18. Id bite your hand off to get Henrik back even if it is only on loan. If he's frozen out at Legia then I see no reason he wouldnt want to come back. Not sure how the finances would work or if Legia would be interested in doing a deal but its no more fantastic than the thought of Faddy coming back and we know how that panned out. Think we might need to win on Thursday night to finance it though.
  19. Fuck me! What a depressing thread! Now for the happy clapper version. The first 30 mins last night we were excellent. Totally in control of the game and should have been more than two up. They break up the park, get a pen from a wicked bounce and we get a little nervy but see it out to half time. Second half admittedly they had some good chances on the break but we were still in control of the game without having the same cutting edge we had in the first half. As the game went on you could see our fitness levels dropping but its our first competitive game and they are well into their season. Christ, anyone who plays 5's should know the difference games make let alone the level they are playing at. I think where we did get it wrong was the Kerr sub. I accept we have a small squad and options are limited, but we know he cant play right mid. He should have gone to right back and let Reid move forward. Big Erwin looked decent when he came on and I would hope he will feature more as the season progresses. We maybe should have shut up shop last night and took our 2-1 win but you cant criticise the players for showing the opposition too much respect and also have a go at them for trying to score a third goal in the dying minutes. I thought Ramsden was having his shirt pulled as he fell to the ground, not sure it waa enough for a pen but having seen the highlights on youtube Im not sure their 2nd was either. You could argue the ball should have been cleared but it was still a harsh decision IMO. I saw enough last night to think we are better than Stjarnan. Now we need to go to their patch and prove it. If we can get into the next round and get those 1or 2 extra players in I think we can have another very good season.
  20. Carswell was solid throughout no doubt but went for Law for a marvellous first 30 minutes. Gave the midfield some balance in that period. Great early season promise. With some more games under his belt he looks like he could do very well for us.
  21. Sad to see Faddy go but the return for the money this season just wasnt there. He could get a better pre season behind him in the summer and may not be so injury prone next season but with our budget thats just too much of a risk especially if the directors are not sponsoring his wages anymore. I hope its not the end of the road for him but I also hope he doesnt go to another scottish club. Seeing him play against us would be horrible especially if it was for sevco.
  22. Watch yourself Tweed. Doncaster will have a hit out on you with common sense progressive ideas like that!
  23. Uefa/Fifa/tv are fast creating a two tier football structure with the top tier being fast removed from the grasp of the working man/woman. I accept that Scottish football isnt at the same technical standard as champions league but I have become bored with that as its the same teams/players being over exposed on tv season after season. This year Ive cancelled my skysports and been to more motherwell games than in any season since before my kids were born. The quality may not gave been great at times but it has felt more "honest" and its "ours". As a result I have really enjoyed the overall experience. Does that make sense?
