  1. Not really any stand out performances for me. We won at a canter without really getting out of 2nd gear. Grimshaw was decent but went for Donnelly despite his 2 howling passes in the 2nd half. He was really the only one trying to get on the ball and dictate play. Took his first goal well and the 2nd one is a screamer.
  2. Defo want to see Sloth at some point today to see what he has got and compare him v Donnelly and Maguire. The guy is a Danish international so you would think he has some quality. Long also looked like he had pace to burn when he came on at Dumbarton so would like to see him from the start with Scott getting last 30 mins to keep his eye in. So great to have options this season.
  3. With Sloth and Tanner both featuring in the recent bounce game and with DT still to return, I dont see us signing any more midfielders anytime soon.
  4. Gallagher strolled it, but to be fair he was never really under that much pressure. Alan Campbell put in his usual Alan Campbell performance, but in the absence of any real stand outs tonight I went for Maguire. Just back in the first team being asked to step into midfield. Thought he aquitted himself well and didnt look out of place.
  5. Lots of patience required tonight. As soon as I saw the pitch I felt it was going to be harder than I had envisaged. Fair play to Dumbarton. They were very organised, defended well and the long grass stopped us from zipping the ball about and slowed our wide players down. It was exactly the kind of night that would have seen us come a cropper in the past but this was no Edinburgh City or Stranraer. We dominated the game, barely allowed them anywhere near our goal, let alone concede one and kept probing patiently looking for the opening. Yes we could have used the ball better and quicker at times and we might have done better with some of the chances we did create, however, it was a pretty comfortable victory which sets us up nicely for Ssturday where we should be much more effective on our well watered bowling green. PS. I thought Maguire had a very good game and did what he was asked to do. Didnt think he looked out of place at all.
  6. That sounds a bit like you are tipping us for top 6 there YB!
  7. I know taking cash from betting firms is generally frowned upon and sometimes for good reason but I dont think we can afford to be sniffy. This will undoubtedly be a good deal for the club with the benefit that we all get to buy 2 pretty cracking logo free kits! Also, lets give credit where its due. The Paddypower adds are generally pretty funny. I cant help feeling just a little bit proud at the fact we are doing something groundbreaking and just a little cool.
  8. I love a glass thats half full! I will raise you..... Knocked out of League Cup by Celtic at Semi Final stage. Win the Scottish Cup beating Aberdeen 3-1 in the final. David Turbull returns to full fitness. Gets first Scotland cap and scores all 3 goals in Cup Final. Signs for Norwich City in the summer for £4.5m plus 20% sell on fee!
  9. Donnelly is definitely not Gorrin but we've not seen Sloth yet who might be and Maguire could be an option there. I think Donnelly has done ok but I see him as a guy who can provide cover in a number of positions as opposed to a regular starter. I like Dunne as he has a great attitude and pace to burn. He is decent coming out of defence with the ball at his feet but he needs to stop the big diagonal passes. He just hasnt got that in his locker. I know what your saying about him defensively. A Hylton or Seedorf would tie him in knots or force a penalty out of him. But I think we would struggle to get another centre half who can do all those things. Im hoping Hartley might get back to his pre injury form but thats gonna be difficult if he cant get games. Might be worth giving him some game time this week to find out. Much rather spend any money we have left on a goalscorer if we can find one. Other than that I think we look well covered in most positions.
  10. Wasnt at the game last night but we have beaten both QoS and Morton comfortably so far. Both are full time teams expected to do well in the Championship this season. Rewind to last season when we lost to Stranraer on penalties and struggled to beat a very average Clyde team. Yes its still early but many reasons to be positive and cheerful.
  11. A much more positive start to the season Ya Bezzer. A bit like the team! But still ignoring cup games? Come on mate. They are still competitive fixtures and equally as important given they are the 2 trophies we have any chance of winning.
  12. The seeding is frustratingly bad the way its set up but you would be guaranteed not to face Rangers or Celtic. If you aspire to win a trophy, you would take your chances against any of the other teams first.
  13. 4 victories is 12 points. That has to be our target.
  14. That would be my take Andy. Almost a week between games so no real rotation needed. 3 games in just over a week coming up. Rotation makes more sense against the weaker teams when the recovery time between games is going to be less and less of a risk to our qualification as a top seed in the next round.
  15. Gillespie, Carson Tait, Grimshaw Carroll, Livingstone Gallagher, Dunne, Hartley, Maguire Sloth, Donnelly, Campbell, Semple, Turnbull Seedorf, Ilic Cole, Hylton Long, Scott, Johnson Pretty decent squad on the face of it. Any additional money spent should focus solely on quality.
  16. I dont see us making any more signings unless someone becomes available that is too good to turn down. Not many of those are gonna fancy Motherwell unless we get in before anyone else. We have pretty much 2 players for every position. A goalscorer or creative midfielder until Turnbull gets fit would be the only areas for me.
  17. I think it was a mixture of playing back on the right and having to adjust to new players in front of him. The sticky pitch didnt help either. Tait relies a lot on his athleticism but the ball kept holding up and getting stuck under players feet. Im sure he will be much happier back on the grass next Friday. I dont like to be overly critical of astro pitches but on a hot day like yesterday they need to be heavily watered to get them playable.
  18. Agree with pretty much all of this although I didnt think it was a penalty and I thought Carroll looked pretty decent. Thought he had a much better game than Tait who looked out of sorts today.
  19. Allan Campbell by a country mile. Never stopped the entire 90 mins. Must be a nightmare to play against. Creditable mentions for Gillespie, Gallagher, Carroll, Hylton and Seedorf. The latter 2 providing much greater impact than the players they replaced, albeit that could just be down to match sharpness. Plenty of positives even this early on in the season.
  20. Not every scoreline tells the full story. The Lanelli game was our first game back after pre-season and Gannon had only been in the door 2 minutes. That was rectified in the away leg. The games agsinst Flamarturi and Steaua at Airdrie were very exciting to watch and Gannons stats over the first 1/4 of the season were impressive. You cant be a useless fud and manage that. Character flaws, yes, great manager, no, but to suggest he had no managerial ability whatsoever clearly isnt right.
  21. If we play the ball on the ground and get crosses into the box I think you are right. Guy is a penalty box player. Get him and the ball in the box at the same time he will get goals. Pointless trying to get him to play the Curtis Main role. He doesnt have the physical attributes. Even Moult struggled to play the lone striker role and he had more of a physical presence than Johnson.
