  1. As others have said why don't we tell the Old Firm to accept the same TV money as the rest of the league or GTF? If Rangers were given the ultimatum of accept what's on offer or fuck off surely they'd have to accept in their current financial state?

  2. Obviously discussions such as this are taken so far above my level I have no input and as such, as a club employee, I am not too sure it would be appropriate for me to comment on it from a personal point of view.

One thing though, purely from an interest point of view and this is 100% purely hypothetical.

Neil Doncaster stated tonight that a move to a trimmed 10-team league would generate more money from TV Broadcasters. Now, if that money was used to reduce the cost of admission to games (i.e. the German model), would that change this debate any?

    Just out of interest...

IMO it would only make a difference if admission was considerably reduced. If you're talking a couple of quid a game then forget it. SPL football is already overpriced and if as expected (by most on here) a 10 team league results in a further reduction in quality then I wouldn't waste my time, never mind my money, watching it.

  3. After the last few performances Gow can GTF. He gives the ball away far too frequently by trying the difficult stuff and we just can't afford that luxury. Going on todays performance Blackman can join him as he didn't look interested and IMHO was looking for an excuse to come off. A total contrast from Lukas last year who played on one leg for a few games rather than come off. Fitzy is worth keeping for all he'll cost and he does a simple and effective job.

  4. Not my first (second, third, fourth...) choice for the job but I wish him luck and hope he proves me wrong. At the moment I can't really justify spending £20 to watch a powderpuff team meekly accepting defeat so if he can turn that round and get the team fired up he'll be on the right track.

  5. If he's the best of a bad bunch who are willing to come to us after we managed their expectations then so be it.

Not my first choice by any matter of means but obviously the board consider him the best of all the applicants who haven't told us where to go.

If he is appointed over the next few days then we can only throw our support behind him. If it turns out to be a disaster then we can worry about that in the summer. We should have enough points already accumulated combined with another 10 or so from our remaining games to ensure our SPL status.

Wholeheartedly agree. He's had a go at management in the lowest league in England and been pretty poor so I don't understand why he's even in the running.

I hope I'm proved wrong but I can see a bottom 3 finish this season if McCall gets the job.

  6. Well here is one contradiction. The official club statement read "Over the past couple of months it has become abundantly clear that the manager was not fully committed to the club and, despite our best efforts, he repeatedly refused to sign a contract."

Brown wouldn't sign a contract either, but the board didn't see that as an issue.

Gannon refused to sign a contract but I've never seen any quotes to show that Brown was ever offered one. According to Derek Johnstone on radio clyde (I know it'sprobably not true but he says he knows him) Brown was asking for a contract but Motherwell refused.

  7. I really don't get the big inquest into Jim Gannon's departure (especially a year after the event). The board who appointed him 5 months previously and were in full posession of the facts decided it was in the best interests of Motherwell FC to part company with him. Having watched the teams performances leading up to that decision and subsequently heard of the unrest within the squad I am glad that he was given the boot.

Surely the onus is on the people who disagree with the decision to provide facts on why it was wrong rather than the other way round?

  8. As most have already said the equaliser in the 6-6 game is the standout moment of 2010. The joy as it hit the net is up there with my best moments following Motherwell and the game will be remembered far longer than any other home game against Hibs ever will (win, lose or draw).

  9. Stop asking difficult questions you. the old 'someone in the club told me' joker card has been played.

I heard from someone in the club that he killed grannies and buried them under the park - that's how the ush got gubbed.

    Must be true.

I heard from someone in the club that the same board of directors who appointed Gannon knew the full facts and decided to tell him to GTF after 5 months in the job.

    That's good enough for me.

  10. Hi,Oldham fan here in peace!.Ive heard Penney is after the job as manager. He is the worst manager we have ever had.A total 100% waste of space. We just avoided relegation by the skin of our teeth last season and had the worst goals scored of all.He is totally negative and defence minded. He says nothing from the touchline and just stands there with his arms folded looking like a Burtons dummy.BE WARNED!!!

The above is a quote from an Oldham fan as posted on Motherwell-Mad.

  11. Gow plays too many passes that are nearly great balls and tries things that if they come off will be good but the majority of the time they don't. He's obviously a good player but he needs to concentrate on keeping the ball more often rather than trying to force things.

  12. I've no idea what's happening on the managerial front or who is on the shortlist but I think we need somebody that will get the enthusiasm of the fans back. I know a lot of people who are being a bit more selective with the games they attend and after todays performance I'm sure there will be a lot more thinking along the same lines. I really can't see McCall, Sutton or any of the other names mentioned in the press bringing them back.

  13. Surely the budget must have been discussed at the interview? If he didn't fancy it at that point he should have said so rather than waiting until he's been offered the job.

As others have said he's obviously not the man for us.

I look forward to the right candidate getting the job and no matter who he is he'll get my support.

  14. I still can'tunderstand why the referee hasn't been implicated in any of this. Why would Jennings do it for a couple of grand when he would lose the chance of a win bonus against Hearts, lose the potential for win bonuses in the 3 matches he's suspended for and probably also have to pay a club fine for being sent off for dissent? A stupid sending off could also damage his career. I's an awful lot to risk for a couple of grand. What did the referee have to lose?

  15. his only association with scottish football is as a celtic player.

add that to the fact he's got no managerial track record and i don't think he'd get much leeway from the fans.

I don't think the Celtic connection should (or would) be an issue to the majority of fans if he came in and did a decent job. However, I'm still hoping that John Boyle is going to pull a rabbit out the hat and none of the names mentioned so far will get the job!

  16. i'll be massively disapointed if we end up with stubbs, mccall or sutton. they've all done heehaw in management and have nothing going for them except OF name recognition.

appointing stubbs would be a recipe for disaster, we'd only ever be a short bad spell away from a maplas style fans revolt. appointing someone the fans are unlikely ever to accept is a terrible idea, you'd be as well bringing mcghee back.

Why would the fans be unlikely ever to accept Stubbs? He wouldn't be my first choice but I'm sure the vast majority would accept him if he did well.
