  1. Could be the role he's been asked to play?

Might not be the case but I know players take some stick from fans when all they are doing is following orders.

I wouldn't like to think so as Hammell is left exposed far too often when Forbes is playing left-mid. Craig Brown likes to set his team up to be hard to beat and not to lose too many goals so I'd be surprised if Forbes has been told not to put much effort into tracking runs.

  2. He never seems to bust a gut to get back when we lose the ball. I know he isn't the fastest but he always seems to be strolling/jogging back which suggests to me that he's struggling for fitness.

  3. Well he has clearly seen him at a similar percentage of games as he has seen Ruddy play, what a stupid point to make.

Ruddy has made some spectacular saves this season, he's also made a habbit of being lobbed easily for such a big guy. He also has gotten away with murder at times by dilly dallying with backpasses. He's also shown that his judgement can be suspect when it comes to rushing out. He did it twice against St. Mirren and once against Rangers. He also did it last week and this week, leading to goals. He definately has flaws.

Fraser has not had the chance to prove himself and hasn't done anything wrong. Just because Ruddy has played rather well doesn't make Fraser pish.

Fraser has also dealt with injury this season.

Surely he'd have to see him actually have a similar number of appearances rather than just see him at a similar percentage of games? Not sure if you were just making a crap point or trying to have a play on words but either way it just comes across as a pathetic attempt to stick up for your mate.

It's very honourable of you to try to defend mon_da_well at every turn. I can't believe how many opinions you two share, you must be like 2 wee peas in a pod!

  4. Aye? 2 goals let in in 2 games, hardly 'bombscare' material.

Hardly got him in asap, he was offered to us via Hutchinson's agent. Fraser is a quality keeper and no worse than Runny, geez peace.

If Fraser is no worse than Ruddy then why does Craig Brown continually pick a keeper who is only on loan to us as opposed to a keeper who is actually ours? Out of interest how many full games have you actually seen Fraser play to come to this conclusion?

  5. I know Lambert said that as I read the article myself. The Norwich bit I can't believe myself, but apparently the club thought Broon only wanted £800 a week, but instead wanted £800k a year. It sounds crazy.........but it came from one of the board members!

So according to your source Craig Brown wants £15,000 a week? You're right it does sound crazy.

  6. Saint Johnstone are my biggest fear just now. Three games in hand over us, and their run-in isn't particularly difficult. That's why a win for us next Saturday I feel would end their challenge. If we lose, they are 10 behind with three in hand (home to Aberdeen and Falkirk, and also away to Falkirk, all winnable.).

Put it beyond doubt by winning next week, we'd go 16 clear of them and they'd have a maximum of 18 points before the split. Including a game at Parkhead, they won't do that.

Is one of their games in hand not against Rangers?

  7. His passback decision was a shocker. Having seen it again the red card should have been a yellow. There was a penalty claim on Murphy but a pillar denied me a view of it so won't judge him on that. Then there was the physical contests between Bamba and Sutton. Some refs would have been blowing all afternoon for these fouls both ways but he just gave one each way I think - to be fair he was pretty consistent but lenient. Seen him have better games but taking out the red card/passback he was all right.

Stonewall penalty. The defender took the legs from Murphy and the linesman clearly saw it as I was right behind him and had the same view. He looked as if he was always itching to get his flag up to give decisions to Hibs but was reluctant to give us anything. A couple of guys lost the plot with him and had to be restrained by stewards which tells it's own story as it's the first time I've seen that at the Cooper end of the East.

  8. You would think so, but only the linesman will know how good a view that he himself has got. At that situation he would have to have been watching the entire penalty box, not just Craigan, Forbes and the last Rangers defender. As I said earlier, this is when you see a good official, when they can get a call like this correct in the split second that they have. That linesman last night got it wrong, badly, badly wrong and his mistake robbed us of a second goal that would have put us well on the way to three points and for that he SHOULD be punished for it. It was a mistake, a terrible mistake no two ways about it, but a mistake none the less.

No he wouldn't, he would have been watching for offside. In that situation the linesman's remit is to watch for offside and the referee watches the rest of the box.

It's funny how the linesman at that side spotted an offence that never took place and the linesman at the other side somehow missed the offence of Novo blatantly kicking O'Brien after the ball had gone even though it was about a yard away from him.

As has been said before at worst it's cheating and at best it's bottling it.

  9. I'm surprised St Mirren were not kicking up fuck about Lasley being offside for the second goal. Was a good couple of yards too. Decisions like that are always appreciated though when they go in our favour.

Jack Ross isn't in that picture and it was him who was playing Lasley onside.

  10. Right forget all the other 'reduce ticket prices' threads - it isn't going to happen. At least not overnight and until an entire overhaul of the Scottish game comes along with it.

I think the answer lies with a BIG discount on Season Tickets.

The 'Bradford' scheme where if the club get enough nomial deposits over certain thresholds then the ST price comes way down. This way the club would get the increase in gates every week - as let's face it, it could be a tenner and in deep winter midweeks against fellow guff some fans simply wouldn't stump it up. If people have paid 'in advance' then 95% of them are there every week.

I am sure bradford asked for a small deposit (could be £4 or something!) and ended up giving away tickets for under £150 as they got 10,000 deposits or 'promisies'. They even gave every one who bought a season ticket a free one too - so they could fill the ground every week!!

We could maybe try:(based on Adult prices only)

    3000 - 3499 Status Quo - £280 I believe?

    3500 - £235

    3600 - £230

    3700 - £225

    3800 - £220

    3900 - £215

    4000 - £210

    4100 - £205

    4200 - £200

    4300 - £195

    4400 - £190

    4500 - £185

All of these figures bring in roughly the same approx income as the status quo - (based only on Adult though) and then there are the obvious benefits of increasing your matchday market at the bar, shop, catering etc..

There could of course even be a 'Super Target' of 5000+ Season Tickets for £150/160!!

I think 4500 though is a realistic target - Most 'good' weeks we can attract that many punters to Fir Park. We can even look into giving away one for free (or another £20 or something to stop people just taking it for the hell of it) to everyone (that wanted one - bring yer granny!) as we would have covered the income we normally get anyway!! There should still even be enough to give the OF their allocation too when they want it!!

In all we have to be real here and accept that there are 4500 customers of Motherwell FC and do everything possible to get their backsides on a plastic seat every other Saturday. Failing to do so and letting the plastic seat sit empty when someone is sitting at home willing to pay for it is and will continue to be one of the biggest follies of our time.

It's all very well reducing the prices the more season tickets you sell but you have to take into account that the extra tickets sold will reduce the "pay at the gate" money every week. It's not as simple as working it out so that you get the same figure for whatever amount is sold.

Also, I know Bradford did this once but do they still do it?

  11. Good solid performance today. Nice to see the defence has had a couple of clean sheets in the last 2 SPL games as well although I am a bit surprised as I was under the impression that they weren't good enough for that.

  12. I've found it pretty hard to watch the last 4 games and couldn't fathom some of the substitutions Gannon was making but I tried not to over-react as I thought he had the best interests of the club at heart and this was all part of his masterplan. Imagine how John Boyle must have felt watching the same games knowing full well that Gannon wasn't willing to commit to the club and would be off like a shot if he got an offer from down south? It's no wonder he told him to get to.

I was willing to give Gannon the benefit of the doubt as I thought he had a plan and was a man of his word. It now looks as if he was talking a lot of shit about his plans for the future and was merely using us until something better came along down south. To me he is more dishonourable than Muttley as at least he achieved something with us before whoring himself about.

  13. I fully expect Gannon to leave Motherwell in during the January transfer window. The guy has no long term plans for the club and is soon to loose some vital players without much or any thought into who to replace them with.

I just feel that this new adventure which he undertook at the summer has gone very sour for him. Who knows what has altered his attitude, referees, the media? Anyways he is looking for a scapegoat and thats clear to see.

Do you have inside information on this or is it just an opinion? I'm beginning to get a little worried by the recent performances and post match interviews but was kind of hoping Gannon had a trick or two up his sleeve for the transfer window.

Maybe the critisism of the team in the lead up to the transfer window is a ploy to get Boyle to release some cash?

  14. I remember in Jennings first game he looked as if he liked a tackle but that part of his game has all but disappeared. In games such as yesterdays the odd crunching tackle wouldn't have gone amiss to show that they were up for a fight and to get the fans going. Too often this season we've been on the receiving end and done nothing about it.

  15. I've supported the team for over 25 years so I have seen my fair share of defeats. However I don't think I have ever been as frustrated as I have been this season. To see us play so well in some games and so utter horrendously in others is hard to take, and add to that the number of defeats that we have snatched from the jaws of victory due to "tinkering".

I'm seriously considering not going next week as I don't think I can stand watching Hamilton taking the piss the way St Johnstone did, and as Gannon says there's no way we'll keep a clean sheet.

  16. This has been one of the most frustrating seasons I can remember. I'm happy with what Gannon is trying to do and happy with where we are sitting in the league considering we are rebuilding at the moment but I find it frustrating that there never seems to be any urgency or change of style during games. Even against 10 men we have the slow, laborious build up which gives the opposition plenty of time to get everybody back behind the ball and then when we lose it they hit us on the break.

  17. I remember someone posting that Jim O'Brien had split with his girlfriend over her unwillingness to move to Aberdeen (may have been Onthefringes?). There's a story in one of the Sunday rags confirming the split so there could be more than a bit of truth in this.

  18. Totally humiliating result yesterday but it may not be all bad. If we were going to lose we might as well take a pumping to show that the current tactics haven't been working very well for a while now. Hopefully this will lead to a re-think and we can get a bit of a reaction in the nexat game.

  19. Another gripe about the officials performance was - 5 substitutions, both managers spoken to by the referee, two sendings off, 1 goal, 1 injury with the physio on = only 3 minutes injury time. Not that we had them totally under the cosh or anything but it must have been a boost to the 9 men to see the board going up with that.
