  1. Yeah, I just got a glimpse of it mentioned on SSN. It was always the most likely outcome. Big decisions to be made, let's hope the right man can be found. I think you'll be fine.
  2. Not sure I share your vision re the direction football should take, but you've abviously given it a lot of thought
  3. Easter Road does indeed look huge. What was its capacity back then, anyone ?
  4. Who shot all these videos in 1980? Great stuff.
  5. Did she ask for a blow on your bagpipes ?
  6. That's quality, a fantastic post. I love nostalgia
  7. Hawl, big yin, was that when you were forcibly ejected from said locomotive for being caught in a comprimising situation with big Francoise fae Burgandy in the buffet car ?
  8. What's the latest on all this, guys? Is McGhee any closer to being Dons boss ?
  9. Would it really require an outsider ( and a Sassenach to boot ) to come in and do it properly ? I like these fantasy "what I'd do with a fortune" ideas. A billion would provide scope to do good in so many areas. So, on the basis of buying 'Well for you guys, here are my ideas. First of all buy the club lock, stock and barrel then turn it into a trust or co-operative to be owned in equal share by all season ticket holders and members. Kind of the Barcelona model, only more democratic in that all major decision are voted on by the fan-owners. Written constitution detailing all rights and responsibilites of fan-owners and the procedures in place for any future changes. Board comprising experts in football business and owner-fans to be elected. New stadium and training ground , with site and design to be voted on also. Free admission for children, OAP's, students, disabled, unemployed. A sustainable long term plan for success, so a lump sum is banked and the interest and some of the capital can be used for transfers and wages. Club to be involved in social programmes, urban renewal, job creation. A talismanic partner for local government and businesses, recognising its responsibilities to the community it represents. All profits the club makes (if any) to go into the community. Just a few ideas off the top of my head. Bill Shankley once said football is socialism in action. To be able to kick-start something whereby a club can be at the centre of community life would be fantastic.
  10. For what it's worth, I think you need someone with experience who will provide stability and so sustain the good work of the past of couple of years. Someone who knows his way around the SPL and can get the best out of his players on a limited budget. Finally, someone with a bit of attitude and charisma who will get 'Well punching above their weight. Of the options in the poll I went for Calderwood.
  11. That's it, I'm throwing my hat in the ring. Flow, please convey my letter of application to the very top. To High heid yin Fir Park Murrawell Scotchland From Mr T Light Steelmen Forum Cyberspace Dear High heid yin, Yon joab fur manager, I'm your man. No coaching badges, no experience, in fact no fucking clue, but still better than Malpas, and you gave him a job. I don't fancy re-locating to Scotland, so I'd coach the players by telephone, if that's ok. Please ensure all training sessions take place in the afternoon because I never roll out of my pit before lunchtime, and I'll be reversing the charges for the phone calls, I'm not made of money. Yours in anticipation of an imminent press conference, Mr Light, OBE , Englandshire.
  12. Cup winning captain at Motherwell is a very exclusive club. The old boy reached a good age there. R.I.P Willie
  13. Their website gives the impression it's business as usual. What's happening ?
  14. Tell us mair, Flowster. Is this a 'deep throat' moment ?
  15. What about Setanta subscribers? Do we just wait and see, or is it a case of cancelling now ?
  16. ITV digital, now there's a blast from the past. Was it really seven years ago that happened ? What was the football rights package they had in place again ?
  17. I'll have a pint of whatever the guys proposing Steve Coppell are drinking. I don't think Billy Davies is a possibility, either. Of those who might realistically be in the frame, I still think Jimmy Calderwood might be able to do you a good turn. Offer him unlimited use of Motherwell's largest sunbed emporium and I think he'd take it.
  18. From that list I would say Billy Davies would be the biggest coup, though I doubt you could get him. Jim Gannon could be an inspired appointment; a young manager who has made a good start to his career and who might like the chance of an SPL job.
  19. And on a tight budget. He did a good job up there, though he didn't get that tan in Aberdeen.
  20. Lots of managerial changes of late, so there are options should McGhee go. How about a swop for tango man Calderwood ?
  21. From his point of view, surely he would have to take the job if offered. He enjoyed some incredible times up there as a player, and whilst those heady days are long gone, Aberdeen is a bigger club. Perhaps wrangling over compensation would be the only possible obstacle to the move?
  22. Aren't Aberdeen said to be totally skint ? The most important thing is to resolve McGhee's future quickly, with no repeat of the Hearts soap opera of last year.
  23. I've had a look at several messageboards of SPL clubs tonight, and McGhee to Aberdeen very soon seems to be the general view. "We'll see" is all you can say really.
  24. Am I missing something here? Strangest thread ever
  25. Thanks for the reply, Dave. You can't beat the traditional bar scarf.
