  1. In the 70s we only ever used the MFC script monogram badge. I was informed by an embroidery expert that the font used was one of many installed in machines at the time, in fact Montrose F.C. used the very same font for their badge (see picture). The font has long disappeared, and was one of the main reasons I had to recreate it for our 125 retro shirt. To my knowledge our current club badge wasn't designed until the early 80's, so unless the conductor was a time traveller it would not have been possible for him to have had our current badge on his 1970s bag (although we had similar fir tree badges that appeared on club yearbooks). I think the badge may also have been designed by a fan. Maybe in a Tales of the Unsuspected way, that conductor got his wish. Spooky!
  2. As a lover of old school Adidas, it was a missed opportunity to make the perfect Motherwell kit. Pure fantasy, but I would have changed the pale yellow to amber and added a hoop. Oh, and made sure that we had our very own away!
  3. According to the stats they pretty much owned us at that time. In saying that, they had a very, very good side.
  4. Soccerbase Wed 24th Sept 1980 Dundee United 4 Motherwell 2 Wed 3rd Sept 1980 Motherwell 2 Dundee United 1
  5. Cheers Casey, Still very odd that we just didn’t wear our home kit and let United wear their change strip.
  6. If we did wear United’s change kit at Fir Park, it must have been the season before. Have to say I have no recollection of us ever wearing another teams kit, but then again my memory is shit!
  7. Sadly missed, he was a great player! Interesting that there is no MFC monogram on his top.
  8. Cheers! It’s time to bring back super shiny football kits. Alfie Conn and Brian McClair never looked so good!
  9. It doesn’t feel like 4 years since Phil’s death.
  10. You would have thought that the easier option would have been just to supply us with an away kit! Anyway, the holy grail is for someone to find a pic of us wearing that Dundee United change kit.
  11. Despite their off the field problems, Hearts and there 350 strong first team squad should easily claim third spot. Although still not certain, I would be surprised if we didn’t make the top 6 this season.
  12. You’ve got to love football logic fatcalf, surely the easier option was for them just to wear their change kit. Bonkers! Any pictures from the game?
  13. I would have thought that most Scottish league sides in the 80s would have had an official change strip. Did the SFA not enforce it back then?
  14. Another strange move was, to my knowledge we never had an away strip with that kit. If anyone knows of one please enlighten us! I would have thought that even back then, SFA rules would have forced all league teams to register a home and away kit.
  15. Home or away, Motherwell v Rangers = Defeat (or at best a draw). We haven’t beaten this mob since Queen Victoria was on the throne, so I can’t see anything that will change that little known fact.
  16. It’s never going to happen for various reasons, but it certainly gets my vote.
  17. The official Admiral away shorts were white with a claret and amber stripe down each side. Like any kit, teams tended to mix and match throughout the season. We are lucky in a sense that our away kit was normally claret and amber, so switching shorts was usually not a problem. I would guess the later move to using the claret shorts/socks with our home and away was more to do with a supply problem as we were about to change kit supplier. Apart from the infamous 76 semi, the pictures below give a rough indication as to when we tended to wear the claret shorts. Either way, it’s a great looking kit!
  18. Due to the early postponement, I assume the shop will now be closed.
  19. Reminds me of this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KzoyzLOAwY
  20. With not being able to make any away games, I’ve been a little underwhelmed by our home form. I actually can’t believe the team that I have been watching are sitting third! I only hope we can remain there until the end of the season.
  21. Our home form has not been great, so I’m going to predict a boring 0-0 draw.
  22. Afraid not, as suspected the winner is... England Home Kit 1980-83
  23. I’m not certain why Admiral didn’t just give us the usual front stripe shorts, as they do go well with the top. I would have no problem in having Admiral back as our kit supplier, as their gear was always very well designed and made. There is also the sentimental side, as we wore their kit when we won the Scottish Cup in 91.
  24. It’s a very popular kit amongst Hammers fans Weeyin, so they probably voted on mass! Personally, I quite like it. I’m sure that the new British owners of Admiral are going to bring out their own retro range of tops, tracksuits. Over the years their back catalogue of 70s and 80s tops has been copied by numerous companies who produce retro gear (Toffs. Scoredraw, Copa). Even we have copied and sold ‘Admiral’ retro shirts in our club shop. (the white 70s away and the 91 cup shirt) The only thing missing from these shirts was the official Admiral logo. Apart from that, they are both pretty good copies. Like Adidas, Admiral should probably have kept a tighter copyright reign on their back catalogue, as there is still a big demand for football retro gear.
  25. Looks like it, although our past strips and colours are very popular among the football kit design geeks that I chat to online. I’m sure they might have added the odd vote or two. And the runner up is... Number 2 - West Ham United Home Kit 1976-80.
