I still feel stronger about that game than I do this one but still reckon this is more of a red neck.

All true Tweed and yet tomorrow the sun will still rise. Come the summer the budget might be reduced, well almost no doubt it'll be reduced. We certainly can't bank on top 3/4 finishes and great cup runs every season so we'll tighten our belts where we have to and move on. There is a danger of apathy setting in, the team could go a long way to helping fight that with a win on friday. The league is all we have going so staying in the European hunt is really essential or as you pointed out the other day it could go the way of the Malpas season. Scunnered as people are by and large they'll be back in time we've all been sickend in the past, it's one result however. Sure it's arguably the worst result in the clubs history but something has to be. Anyone actually going to stop supporting the club because we lost a game we should never have lost? Surely not, even the most apoplectic with rage will calm down and well it should hopefully be a long time before we underestimate anyone in a cup tie ever again.

Bit of a cliche but you need to be there to miss them, and on those sub appearances he managed to look like he was in the game. Hope he keeps heads up and puts away next chance to seal the points. Where as Bob McHugh mostly seems anonymous when he starts, albeit popped up with a tremendous headed goal against Ross County.

I thought Anier started well, but given his form in last few games has been poor while Moores looked lively off the bench I think he deserves a start.
-
Delighted if it goes to Hamilton. More people getting to see the game is the common sense approach. It also stays local, looking forward to this now!

That is just plain old trolling.

Only heard a small amount of booing, reaction around us was mostly incredulous laughter. Doubled when Angol got the other MOTM. I daresay it wouldn't have mattered what names were read out though there would have been a touch of irony around it.
-
Less than pleased with McCalls post match comments. It's easier to look good when you gift a team a two goal start. Utd were competent today, if they'd been good the score would have threatened double figures.

Where to start. Anyone any idea what our best XI is, what formation suits us best? With everyone fit I'm happy enough with the back four. Hollis has actually been ok as well. Neilson I think is more error prone but maybe not the worst back up ever and enough decents saves I wouldn't want to write him off. Sutton is a decent SPL striker and largely doing what we'd expect of him. However the service to all of our strikers this season is poor. We lack the movement, pace, flair and creativity we had last season. We look quite pedestrian and despite occassionally theatening to play football have rarely imposed ourselves on games. Young lad Moore does look reasonably bright and I hope he gets more of a look in but after a positive start Anier has looked anonymous last couple of months. McHugh just isn't up to it, can score now and again but really not enough to his game. The midfield who knows what to do with. Lasley is fairly reliable, Carswell isn't the worst player ever, Vigurs show glimpses of talent as does McFadden but neither really contributing anything like enough. Jury is out on Ainsworth and Lawson certainly isn't the answer of the questions involves where do we get some pace or creativity from. That we have 22 points seems like a minor miracle, or just shows how bad some other teams are but it is looking like a long season unless McCall can find a balance that is sorely lacking thus far.

We started? Well until the goal I wouldn't say we were awful but I wouldn't have said anything notably positive either.

Angol is far from the worst player to play for us. But you can't defend that decision making today that cost us the second goal. It was beyond belief to lose it where he did with ample opportunity to get rid of it. Today was a shambles from start to finish. The summer signings have not gelled in any way McManus aside. We'll hopefully not sink as low again anytime soon but the problems we were all were aware off were brutally highlighted today once our relatively decent defence got unsettled. Neilson some decent saves aside is more error prone than Hollis and the 3 first choice defenders missing today was way to much for us to deal with.

Fucking typical of this place. "Oh I hear a certain someone who once played 5 minutes as a sub in 1978 is being lined up for a coaching role." Obscure quiz corner with some people!

Pretty gutted about last nights loss. We're all feeling it more because we know an average Aberdeen side was probably about as tough a game as we had to get past to make a semi final and with the remaining big obstacles being St.Johnstone and ICT. Big opportunity spurned. It can be tough breaking down ten men, and Aberdeen aren't the shambles they were under McGhee and Brown. Still don't think all that much of them but if the chalked off goal had stood or Hutchison buries that header we might well have progresed. Longer the game went on the more the script was written for them to nick something and it happened. The players we have including the ones getting pelters have us challenging for 2nd place. That is some way better than I expected given we nearly rebuilt the team from scratch in the summer. The jury is absolutely out on a few players but if we keep going along as we are we'll finish top 6 no bother. If McCall can get the right blend from a few of our misfiring players then maybe we can keep in the hunt for 2nd and make amends in the Scottish Cup. So another cup run ends in disappointment, add it to the list and move on. It's a couple of games in a row where we've looked poor, I'll be more concerned if we don't win by christmas but I'm fairly confident we can pull it together and pick up some wins in November. 3 winnable games there. And if we lose them all and descend into the bottom half maybe the manager gets sacked, maybe someone else comes in and does better or worse. Life goes on and either way I'll still support my team and be at the games when possible.

Presumably to keep him fresh for the weekend. I'd rest either him or Anier myself to give McFadden a run out in a more central role.
-
If we were even to start in 87 and have St.Mirren 2-1 up on the silverware I still wouldn't. 2-0 and I'd consider it, but by and large we've been a good team to watch and they have been chronic. We had our blips in there as well but their blips have been the good times.
-
Might be doing them an injustice but is it not just twice in about the same timeframe for St.Mirren, not exactly a record I'd trade for.

McFadden is very much not hitting the heights we know he can but I can only reiterate what others have said he is still worth a place for now. He is occupying minimum of a couple of opposition players at any given time. There are plenty of good touches and passes. He generally putting a shift in (maybe not exactly tireless tracking back, but he not strolling around like a Berbatov). There was one really disappointing attempted through ball at the weekend and the dribbling skills certainly aren't working their magic but until someone like Ainsworth comes on and shows something better I happy to give Faddy time to hit his steide

Job done today at least. How were we in general?
-
Vigurs I thought was guilty of some poor losses of possession. Not sure if any led directly to goals off the top of my head. I don't recall Lawson doing so either.
-
I'm sure McCall didn't just pluck names out a hat. As much as we look disjointed I'm sure McCall hasn't picked up players at random. I suspect when McManus became available he saw it as a chance to pick up a notably better centre half than what we had and he had in Ramsden a player he saw as a full back and signed Kerr a young player he felt capable of covering centre and fulback positions. When he signed Vigurs, he'll have known he wasn't a pacy wide player but I gather he played wide position for County. He's talked about signing a pacy wide player for a while hopefully when said player arrives it will change the balance of the team. Resigning McFadden looked a no brainer given his form last season. Sutton is a proven SPL forward than can lead the line. He's brought in Anier who looks to have a bit of pace, strength and finishing. Lawson seems a tidy midfield player, someone who should be setting the tempo and anchoring our midfield. Putting them all together has been distinctly unimpressive so far for the most part. But we can surely only get better and if we can bring in a couple of loan deals before the deadline I daresay we'll turn it around.

If the weather was clement....

Wouldn't be my first pick, especially if I was the early dayshift ten to six start at woek. Would still go if it were a home game mind you.
-
Dead on.

I have no great confidence that Bob McHugh is good enough but if we are lumping the ball up the park and can't string two passes together then he far from the biggest problem. Is McFadden fit, he was on the whole playing very well end of last season. So far this season it's just not happening, I don't put it down to him playing right mid. He is on form good enough to play anywhere midfield forward in the SPL. Arguably his best performance was from right mid against Hibs last season. We clearly lack pace going forward. We clearly lack some natural width but you could put Chris Humphrey back in that team and I suspect we'd still be brutal. Maybe it'll click over the next few games but from what I've seen and heard so far barring a few players like Vigurs and McFadden considerably upping their game we are not going to be fun to watch.

Not sure why people are jumping on Lawson. Carswell looks like he might do a job but even if he can step up Lasley won't be around forever. Lawson I've only really seen against Krasnodar and Hibs and both games he cut a composed figure. Should be a decent acquisition and not to blame for a lack of width elsewhere.
