  1. On the subject of finishing 3rd, the above poster who said we were too feart to go for second is spot on. It was there for us but we just didn't push ourselves enough to get it and that is down to McCall. He is the manager, it's in his remit to motivate the team for every game and he fails on that count regularly and that is just not acceptable.

Its not solely down to McCall though as you are overlooking the individual on the park, you are also overlooking the captain of the team who'se role it should be to lead by example. We've not had a leader on the park as Captain since Scott Leith as is touched on in another thread and in this when you reminice of the Butcher era. Scott Leitch had similar ability to Keith Lasley yet Leitch upped his game that bit when it was required when the chips were down - I struggle to think of a game where I could say the same of Lasley. Its easy to captain when things are going well - its far harder to do it when things aren't going your way but its what defines the role of being captain in the first place.

Its not just that we are feart - we are to nice a team who continue trying to play football when other teams wanna role their sleeves up against us. Most of our team would rather shy away from going into battle against their opposite number than take them on head on.

  2. I thought Humphrey was terrible last night. Now it was one of those games where he was not getting the service down the line but he shat out of every tackle, pretends to go for a header. No real commitment from him. Ojamaa had a poor game but at least he still chased down, tried to tackle etc.

Carswell didn't do enough to say he had a good game, he just constantly passed the ball 2 yards to nearest player.

Hatley was all over the place ala Hearts last season.

Randolph was brilliant again, Hutch was solid, Cummings did ok and I was disappointed with Hammell tonight.

We really miss a scott leitch type player who grabs the team by the scruff of the neck and pulls us through!

Disappointed to go out the cup at an early stage but lets move on, concentrate on the League form with a win over Hibs on Saturday!

To me that should be a captains role. Many of our fans are quick to chuck the word legend at guys like Craigan and Lasley but the truth is that when things aren't going our way, both these guys never stepped up to the plate to lead by example despite them having years off experience over the guys they are playing beside. In the second half when we were 2 down Hutchison had a couple of times where he pushed forward and tried to make things happen in the positions in front of him. Granted they didn't come off and he got a bit carried away but it was refreshing to see someone try to take some kind of lead. Yes he's young, lacks experience and is sometimes rash but he's more of a leader on the park than some of the experienced teammates alongside him.

  3. Italy were based at Fir Park a couple of years ago for the qualifying campaign against George Burley's Scotland team. The club were given £10k from the SFA to allow the Italians to use Fir Park for training facilities but also included the Italian press to use the press room for the entire weekend. I'd assume this pic was probably taken about that time.

  4. I imagine HMRC would treat it the same way as any other income of a non-charitable institution. But could be wrong.

Who said we are not a non-charitable institution though? I'm sure that in terms of HMRC that the club has a "Sporting and Recreational activity/Charity" status.

  5. I miss the old days of watching centre halfs and target men going hammer and tongs against one another and seeing which would come out on top. Sadly this has fallen by the wayside with play acting and weak refereeing being the norm

  6. What's the hold up with the Celtic game getting changed?

As far as I know, its trying to get approval from the Police.

Doubt it'll be the Sunday as Celtic are playing in the Champions League on the Tuesday night and Aberdeen v Hibs is the televised early kick off on the Saturday. I suppose it really is too much to hope for that just for once the the TV companies might just leave this one alone to be played at 3pm on Saturday?

I think the early/late kick off on the Saturday would be the preferred solution for Celtic but was told that the Sunday can't be ruled out. Either way there's little chance this'll be played at 3pm on the Saturday.

  7. i decided that Woods was useless when he tapped in Durie's cross at Fir Park in the Cup!!!!!!!

appears to have a far greater coaching career than a playing one!

Thats not how I remember it. Were we not a goal up when instead of kicking the ball up the park, he tried to pass it out to Corrigan at right back which Durie intercepted and scored from to take it to a replay?

  8. Add to that Smith, Pollock, Halsman, Lawless, McKinnon and Bradley's wages are also freed- all of whom would have been on at least a couple of hundred a week. I reckon we are well on the road to having made the cut.

I see the wages off those guys being spent on the next crop of youngsters who will be making the step up from U16 and above to the periphery of the team rather than it being wages saved.

  9. Jenno for me. His performances this season have been superb and all the more outstanding given the potentially career threatening allegations which have until recently been hanging over him. He make our midfield and team tick over and to me is totally under-rated for the technique he has when on the ball with most fans focusing on his ball-winning skills.

I think Lasley will walk the poll on here given he's the husbands favourite!

  10. No stranger to international soccer fans, Maaskant began his professional soccer career as a Midfielder, perhaps most notably with SVB Excelsior, an Eredivisie team in the Netherlands and Motherwell FC, a Scottish Premier League team. Maaskant moved on to coaching with teams like Willem II, NAC Breda and Wisla Kraków. During his time with Wisla Kraków, Maaskant coached the team to a much celebrated 2010-2011 Polish Championship (Ekstraklasa) victory.

  11. Guys..

Does everybody not see a threat from St.Johnstone..

Win there spare game and only 8 points behind..

    Thoughts

Only 8 points behind? Whilst an 8 point gap to the next team is catchable, its a massive gap at this stage of the season. If we focus on trying to beat Rangers for second then third place will more than take care of itself.

  12. Name another performance this season so far that has been comparable?

Certainly didnt get any decision wrong, perhaps could have booked Fallon for persistant fouling. Those who wanted Considine off, I think he got it right and he was probably still one more challenge away from meriting a 2nd yellow. He tried to let the game flow, and did so well.

An easy game to officiate, but clearly clouded by the fact he is Iain Brines and has had plenty of awful showings at our expense, but today - no complaints at all.

I thought Brines had a good game but even today he wasn't consistent. Hately got booked for sliding in without making contact yet 2 similar challenges near the corner flags on both sides of our had went unpunished.
