  1. Thought we started really well and looked well out of sight of Accies. Then Heneghan made a hash of a pass back and it became infectious. After that 4 or 5 players made unnecessary mistakes and you could almost see the confidence drain out of us. Accies got on top and created all the best chances from then on. Luckily Samson did everything he needed too. Second half I felt we dominated without really carving out any real opportunities. Hamilton soaked up the pressure relatively well and won nearly every header - bad for us since we had gone from going past their left back at will in the early stages of the first half to hoofing long balls up to McDonald and Ainsworth in the 2nd. You could clearly see we were nervous and ill at ease, we had more to lose tonight than Accies and it affected the players. That, along with tactics that didn't suit our better players. I think you have to look at the positives. He didn't have his best game tonight but we've been much better at the back since McHugh went there. I would keep him at centre back, even if/when McManus comes back. We gained a point on Dundee and didn't lose any ground to the teams below us. A 10th place finish this season is fine. Just have to go forward now and try to get as many points as possible before the split. Inverness would be a good time to break the home hoodoo.
  2. Stevie Woods is infamous for his assist to Durie but the one that hangs in my memory is Corrigan's 'pass back' in the last minute of the League Cup semi final where we had outplayed Celtic and looked good for an extra time win.
  3. I know and now I'm going to delude myself and pretend it's Stevie May.
  4. Not him. And that's the last one I'm confirming or denying.
  5. Well it's not Tony Watt. And I'm not playing a guessing game! ha ha Like, if I could say I would but I can't. Will be interesting to see if it comes off because this is primary source information.
  6. This is a bit arseholey I know but I got some information straight from the horses mouth so to speak so I can't actually tell you who it is because I don't want to betray trust. The player in question hasn't been mentioned yet in the thread but if it comes out later I'll chip in and confirm it. A clue? Well it's tough biting my tongue so what I will say is it's a Scottish striker who's had a few ups and downs at bigger clubs but is potentially a decent signing. Both club and player are interested although the deal probably depends on us staying up. I've said too much already!
  7. Whatever happens at least one of them is in the shit. Personally I think both will be down there battling come the split.
  8. Nonsense. The cross is high, fast and curling away from goal. Very difficult for any goalkeeper to come for. Garner starts his run on the 18 yard line in the opposite direction of Samsons line of sight and strikes it beautifully. There are goalkeepers in the past where nothing would have been said but because its Samson it's he's hung out to dry. Samson played a big part in us getting that point on Saturday and has actually been pretty decent recently. Made a save at Kilmarnock as well that helped give us all three points. The myopic scapegoating needs to stop.
  9. Well to be honest I forget I don't get paid holidays in this job but on the other hand probably worth it to not have to phone someone and lie about diarrhea.
  10. Taking unpaid leave to go to this match so this will be the most expensive game of football I've ever been to. Kinda adds an extra dimension to the 'we better win' aspect of it!
  11. Probably at least half a dozen you could have picked but I'd go for McHugh.
  12. Good performance, we were a threat up front and we defended well when we were under pressure. Was a bit disappointed we seemed to sit back at the beginning of the second half because we looked like we could score every time we went forward - Rangers were a shambles at the back. First half we were well on top, Rangers were abysmal. 2nd half Rangers pushed us back from the start of the half. We defended well and won almost all the high balls but it only needs one good ball in to score a goal so it was all most inevitable Rangers would score. Even the best teams are playing with fire defending that deep. After that we came out again and attacked, why we didn't do that from the start of the half I'm not sure but we looked all the better for it. At that point the game really burst into life and was actually a really exciting match to watch. End to end, lots of chances and both goalkeepers have pulled off some great saves. We had a couple of chances were you can't believe its not gone in. Overall I think we edged the match. We were much the better team in the first half, Rangers probably better overall in the 2nd half but the last 20-25 minutes were fairly even. By the way, fair play to the referee for booking Waghorn for his 'penalty' dive.
  13. And yet he still has 6 league goals. More than any four of our midfielders you want to put together.
  14. My memory of that season is that there wasn't really any 'title chasing' mentality within the support. Rangers were well clear off the field going into the last 9 matches when they proceeded to collapsed completely. If we had beaten Dundee Utd it would have certainly made it interesting but we were always playing catch up with Rangers who had the points in the bag. Even if we had put the pressure on, Rangers last game of the season was against Dundee, who finished bottom of the league that season, at Ibrox. That game petered out 0-0 but you suspect that Rangers would probably have won that one if they really had to.
  15. Name one full back in the league that's not been given the runaround half a dozen times a season? That's what happens if you are full back. You don't get 100% consistency even at the hundred million pound elite level never mind at the 50 grand level.
  16. I'd pretty much agree with that but the problem is Rangers have only failed to score twice this season and have scored 2 or more in 50% of their home matches. We've also conceded twice in every match against them this season so it looks like we are going to have to score at least 2 goals to get a point. Can't see that happening. On the other hand surely we are due a bit of luck against Rangers in particular.
  17. Can you imagine if either team had McDonald and Moult up front? Or if you took McDonald and Moult out our team and replaced them with D'Acol and Bingham. We'd be bottom. There are a couple of players who keep this team competitive and frankly everyone else needs to up their game instead of leaning harder and harder on these guys.
  18. Like....oh....say......Randolph. At the end of the day you need someone to be prepared to pay a worthwhile amount to get him. It might happen, but it might not.
  19. Disagree. We were a shambles at points in the first half against Kilmarnock and if they had scored a second goal I'd wager we would have collapsed and been on the end of another heavy defeat. Even though we got better in the 2nd half we were pinned back for long spells and got away with three points after an injury time penalty miss. Truth was the performance was very typical of the season overall. Aberdeen was a failed shitefest and against St. Johnstone we have come back and then lost the game for the umpteenth time this season. Robinson's results so far mirror exactly McGhee's results against the same opposition - win, loss, loss - so even if you disagree on the subjective point of our performances you can't say we are any better of for it. Out of the three the St. Johnstone match was the best but we still lost the match and such poor goals that it's difficult to say we have really improved. We are still a soft touch I'm afraid.
  20. Ya Bezzer!

    Injuries

Yeah, there is no comparison between McManus and Jules. Having said that Jules has looked more dangerous in the opposition box than Jacob Blyth so maybe he just needs to change positions!
  21. Don't think we'd have much chance of Devlin. I don't even think we'd have much chance of getting someone like Peter Grant at Falkirk.
  22. Lasley - will probably join backroom staff Kennedy - I kinda like Kennedy, he's physical, strong and good in the air, you can't imagine he would get bullied by Boyd, Sammon or even Dougie Imrie unlike some, needs to improve the more cerebral side of his game. However, a whole season out is difficult to come back from. Would need to know more about his condition. [EDIT - OK, just found out more on his condition!] Moore - Should have been let go last time. Ainsworth - Tough one. Has been a shadow of the player he was in the first two seasons and yet he's still one of our better players in terms of end results. Tend to fall on the 'his time has been' side. Pearson - Underwhelming so far on his return needs to put in a good run of form to the end of the season to get a further deal....if he even wants one. McFadden - Playing days seem over and his assistant manager role seems in doubt. Lucas - Get rid. Samson - Get rid. Chalmers - Get rid. Jules - Get rid. McDonald - One of only three players we have who are Top 6 quality and in my opinion BY FAR our most important player. Will almost certainly move on next season and he will be a huge loss.
