  1. It can work in terms of being competitive in the division and the club not going to the wall. Fans however need to manage their expectations. Just think about your own bills and then imagine you were running flood lights and undersoil heating on top of that and you might get an inkling. We are 8th right now and as close to 5th as 12th. That seems well within reasonable expectations. Of course that might change and if we continue to not get 3 points it will definitely change but right now we need to hold steady and support the players and management.
  2. Bevis has been out best defender this season. Should never have been dropped.
  3. I was never in favour of VAR because I was aware that technology would never improve the standard of refereeing and administration in the Scottish game. It's still the same people, or even a further sub stratum, of people making the decisions. I don't have a problem with goal line technology and offsides but re-refereeing every decision and checking every goal is a disaster for football, especially for live spectators. The essence of the game is being torn out.
  4. I mean, I'm old enough to remember the 80's and 90's but in the modern game that is a red card. I think Kettlewell was right to question why Taylor wasn't sent off but I'm more of the opinion that they were both red cards rather than neither of them was. It's still inconsistent refereeing and I don't think anyone would be surprised that it favoured the bigger team.
  5. Every single manager should get at least the first two rounds of matches and that's not taking into consideration any bonus points for past endevours. Our fans need to take a cold, hard look at the reality of fan ownership. What is it you expect the club to achieve? Top 6 every season? Brilliant players, amazing football? Also there is a lot of frankly deluded moaning. Fans were moaning when Alexander got us into Europe. That's where a lot of our fan base is these days. They don't seem to enjoy supporting a town club and everything that goes along with it. And there is plenty of decisions Kettlewell has made that I don't get or flat out disagree with but so what? We are not detached in terms of points, performances, quality of squad. There are things that can be improved but for me we've mostly been competitive. If we are hitting re-start after 14-15 matches every season we are going to have a foundation and no roof on a permanent basis. And the usually suspects complaining that the rain is coming in.
  6. I was hung over, there was drip right above my seat, our winless run continued and there was some fractious moments between the crowd, the manager and some of our senior players but you know what? I actually enjoyed the match today. Open, played at a decent pace, plenty of incident and goals. OK, the overall performance wasn't great, I actually thought Dundee deserved the win, but that doesn't look like a team that's given up to me.
  7. Gordon hasn't been any good for ages. He was shite at Celtic. Roby McCrorie should get himself first team football somewhere and he'll be right in there.
  8. Manger was fuming on the radio and saying a player didn't follow instruction in terms of picking up Rowles at the corner and it had been spelt out to them over and over.
  9. KInda saying the same things every week now which is worrying. Failed to score a first half goal again, 11 out of 13 matches now. Give up the initiative every match and only come into games in the last 15 minutes. Just cannot keep a clean sheet. Manager doesn't understand our strikers, despite bringing most of them in, and consistently plays the wrong formation. Selecting O'Donnell is basically an act of sabotage.
  10. Hearts have been playing 5 across midfield and have better midfielders than us any way so I think they will out compete us in the middle of the park.
  11. I should take a bath at half time more often.
  12. Hearts didn't do very well with Levein in charge. Mugabi got dropped for cos he's not a 'favourite' while Casey gives away goals every week. We play 3 or 1 up front when virtually every striker in our squad is better suited to playing in a 2, except maybe Bair. O'Donnell was given a new contract why? We were shite virtually every time he was in the team last season. Johnston coming in as a first team player or a sub improved us massively every time. Connect the dots. Our entire tactically set up is based on Slattery and Spittal never being off form.
  13. We've scored 1 first half goal since the first match of the season. Or if you like, 10 out of 11 zeros.
  14. Took St Johnstone 9 matches to score 3 goals this season. Took them 27 minutes to score 2 against us.
  15. 1 clean sheet in 12 league matches. Recent matches conceded 2 (so far) - 1 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 2
  16. Hopefully Kettlewell can set some ambitious targets tonight......like scoring a goal in the first half.
  17. We are never going to see our board go for a Neil Lennon or Paul Lambert type because they wouldn't touch the job with a barge pole. Scottish football is skint. We are the poor relations of lower league English football these days.
  18. The recent trend of giving managers no time doesn't make it right. in fact it's part of the reason Scottish football is so dire. 8 months, maybe 2 windows and if you hit a bad spell see you later and another another rookie manager gets appointed. I was never a big fan of Robinson but is it any surprise he's built a better team on a fraction of the budget than Naismith or Robson? You need time to learn and build as a manager. I've said it before, the greatest Motherwell manager of my time would have been sacked years before he won the cup and almost won the league in the current climate. The current climate is whack. Back in the days mobs formed on Fir Park street screaming for McLean to get fired. We had a chairman that actually supported the manager back then. Nowadays they are weaklings that cave to any pressure. It's hard enough to grow a team in the first place, starting from scratch because you can't hack the slightest adversity makes in impossible.
  19. Some crazy options here. You can't fire a manager every time you hit a bad spell. For a start if you start doing that you'll never attract any decent quality managers because no one will want to join a club were you are 6 or 7 games away from the sack. You review the situation at the winter break and if it's look bad then.....maybe.......but it'd have to be bad, right now we are a point off being top 6.
  20. One of those performances where every single player was miles off it. Ive been bemoaning our poor starts to matches and tonight was another one, we barely got a touch for the first 5 minutes of the match and let Aberdeen totally dictate the match. The fact that Aberdeen conceded twice under the tiniest bit of pressure at the end of the match says to me they were there for the taking if we'd bothered to show up. We've scored two first half goals all season and that tells you a lot. There is almost no point even talking about individuals after a performance like that because tonight was a collective failure. Kettlewell needs to get his thinking cap on and find an answer because it's just not working right now and we are getting worse week by week.
  21. Pretty competitive between us and the ref to see who can be worse.
  22. Aberdeen's abysmal performances and form this season is giving me the fear for tonight!
  23. I'm not a big fan of O'Donnell, as most will know, but some of his better performances as I seem to remember have actually been when he played at left back. Maybe you are just reversing the same problem but I always think if you are going to play one of two out of position you might as well put the better one in the correct role to maximise their effectiveness.
  24. It's suggesting to you he doesn't have a strikers instinct based on one incident in a poor overall team performance when the player clearly isn't up to speed, hasn't played in the team and is maybe lacking a little bit of confidence. There were plenty on here slating Van Veen in the first half of last season. I'm not saying he's the answer but he deserves to be judged on a run of games. Bair has 10 league starts, Shaw has 1. You can't lump them in together and I think that's what a lot of people are doing.
  25. I said before the match I wanted to see a strong start and I got a dreadful start. Ross County really should have been three up in the first ten minutes. We really need to make stronger starts to matches because we are giving the initiative to the oppositions and if we keep doing that we are going to be out of games early on. Lennon Miller was noticeable in his absence and the midfield really didn't work yesterday. I think 'officially' it was a 5-3-2 but Spittal was trying to link with the forwards and that really only left two in there and Slattery was completely anonymous yesterday. I've said it before but Slattery is an AM, he cannot performance as a centre midfielder or someone with defensive duties. Although we lost 3 goals I don't think we were defensively too bad, the main difference in the teams was Ross County's radical idea to actually shot at goal. Brophy and Murray's goals were both well taken and some good propaganda for the idea forward players should be finishers. You'd think as an idea that concept should be obvious but..... The third goal though was poor from us and we need to bring up Dan Casey. The guy can be an asset and he has good qualities but his positional discipline is all over the place and he really needs to screw the heid a bit. I actually thought he was to blame for the losing goal against Celtic when he was right where he needed to be and then for reasons unknown ran across the goal out of the area the ball was played into. Even the goal he scored earlier in the season, why on earth was he there to score it? I think from a coaching perspective Casey is a 'spare the rod, spoil the child' type. Kettlewell really needs to keep Casey under firm reigns to get the best out of him. Also from a defensive point of view our full backs are, and have been, an issue for a while. O'Donnell shouldn't have been given a new contract and a succession of loan players over the past couple of seasons hasn't helped either. Spencer was probably our best player going into the second half but as others have said he's a right back playing left back. Upfront I've seen enough of Bair to come to the conclusion he's a space filler and that's about it. He's a big guy and he doesn't even win headers. However I think some or even most here are being harsh on Shaw. He's had no pre season and started one match and some folk are saying he should never play again. Come on. Not saying he's the answer and I'd play Wilkinson and Biereth in front of him but for me he gets into positions and had one of our few efforts at goal yesterday. On Biereth, this guy is miles above Scottish Premiership level. His pace, his drive, his ability can transform our season if he stays fit and other managers don't send out an assassin to deal with the guy.
