Another magnificent performance, two in a row at Fir Park, we'll start getting used to that! Bossed the game from beginning to end, everyone played at least well, some had brilliant performances (Hammell, Murphy, Jennings) and, well, we are in the semi final. I was going to go away on holiday in May, that might be oot the windae now!

A jonah is someone that brings bad luck and my nickname for a friend of mine who only goes to a 2 or 3 matches a year, but we always - ALWAYS - lose when he is there. At least he got Jim Gannon the sack!
-
We are as good as out. 'The Jonah' is going tonight and when 'The Jonah' goes we never, ever win!

We have a decent enough spine of the team to get into or challenge for a Top 6 place but we need more experience in the squad, too many young players. It's obvious that our confidence has never really recovered from the Brown saga and of course the squad has also been depleted since then. If McCall brings in 3 or 4 seasoned, decent quality players during the close season I can't see us struggling to badly, perhaps not be as consistent as under Brown but you can't expect European or even a Top 6 finish ever season.

Yeah, this one. When we went from 3-1 down to 4-3 up I went so mental I took a dizzy turn and almost collapsed! Shame Marshall sold the win in injury time. Think that was his last game for us. I'm sure that it's still the only time we've ever scored 4 against the Old Firm in a match in my lifetime. I still maintain the best game I've ever been at Fir Park was against Falkirk. 2-1 up, 3-2 down, miss two penalties, win 5-3! Not picking another 3, just too difficult.

In the same boat really. I was 17 and I'd been supporting Motherwell regularly since about 87/88 so it was only a few seasons before we'd actually won an actual trophy! Looking back now I didn't appreciate just what we had achieved. 20 years later and with no guarantee that we will win anything again in my lifetime now I have a better understanding of just what that team did. I do feel lucky though that I did witness it and I hope that the younger generation get to see something similar. It seems to be a once in a generation thing. My mum saw the cup winners in the 1950's, I saw the 90's victory, fingers crossed the weans will see a triumph as well.

Watched the highlights. Looked like a good game with a good atmosphere. Nice to see, I don't like this 'the cups are dead' school of thought. Thought we really dodged a bullet when Saunders tackled Goodwillie. Definite penalty, how the referee didn't give it I'm not quite sure. Disappointed at both goals we lost. Gunning needs a wrap on the knuckles for his rolling around instead of defending malarkey and Randolph should have done better, the shot was straight at him. The second goal, it's so crazy you don't even know where to point the finger. Certainly Saunders as right back was nowhere to be seen, and I assume Hutchinson was supposed to be right centre half. Why everyone got drawn left I'm not to sure. Anyway, looked like a decent performance overall and hopefully we can edge it at Fir Park. At least Brian Welsh won't be playing this time!

I agree with the point but I'm wondering if McCall has encouraged Lasley to get forward more often. He's bagged a couple of goals recently and he seems to be getting into offensive position more often than in recent times. As for the box to box midfielder when did we last have one? Probably the young Phil O'Donnell. I remember telling everyone we should sign young Colin Cameron from Raith Rovers!

2-2 away to Dundee United is a decent result, especially as Utd had a pretty strong side out. Just a shame we couldn't concentrate a bit harder after we scored.
-
Good start, and another goal for Sutton. I'm probably going to be out of the country for the Cup Final so I've got a feeling...
-
On your first point, you name 6 players. Great. So that means on a good day almost half our team is very young and inexperienced. On a good day. Now how often in the second half of the season have we been able to put out those players that you've mentioned in the same team? All of them have either had injuries or suspensions or fitness problems except Sutton. So on a good day half the team are youngsters but more often than not more than half have been. I already answered your second point, it should be down to the players to motivate themselves for matches. A manager can't do it week after week after week. He can only do it sparingly other wise it just becomes ineffective and routine. It goes in one ear and out the other.
-
Wasn't there but young teams are inconsistent so not a huge surprise. Unless we can bring in some good experienced pros then things aren't going to change a great deal. Second point, it shouldn't really be down to the manager to motivate the team. Players should be self motivated and I think we have too many players at the club at the moment who are not mentally strong enough to do that. Again it may be related to the inexperience of our team with so many young players. I don't blame McCall for keeping with the side that beat Celtic but hopefully Craigan returns for the next match. He is still the best defender at the club.

Poor, even a point up there would have been massive but this gives Inverness a huge boost, I think they go above us now. Really need to win those two home games now against Aberdeen and Dundee Utd.
-
Randolph hasn't even played a full season and he's the best we've ever had for some! Dykstra first, Maxwell second, for me. Then you have Howie, Ruddy. If Randolph maintains his form he could go into the second tier at the end of the season but not before. We've had other guys that had good individual season's among a mixed bag (Marshall, Goram, Billy Thomson, even, help ma boab, Graeme Smith).
-
Gotta Love the Las! But he's missed a few games this season though through injury and suspension, Hammell and Randolph have been excellent pretty much all season.
-
If someone puts in an offer for Randolph we'll probably drive them to the cash machine! Worth remembering that he hasn't keep these clean sheets on his own and that others, including players folks here are only to quick to slag off, are responsible to. But at this stage of the season Randolph and Hammell would be my picks for Motherwell player of the season.
-
And the flare smoke cleared my cold right up.
-
Love these kinds of posts. Not having a go at Gunning or Hutchinson both very good today but Craigan has 350 'Well games under his belt (including about 15 clean sheets this season) and those 2 have 25. Talk about picking and choosing.
-
Forgot Paul Slane but then hasn't everyone!
-
The ref probably thought "it's Humphrey that is clean through, Motherwell's advantage if I pull it back".
-
Lots of candidates. Randolph made some great saves and looked really solid under pressure. Gunning and Hutchinson were rock solid. Hammell was excellent and Murphy and Sutton worked their bollocks off. But I'm going to give it to Lasley. Tremendous performance considering he was doubtful before the match. EDIT: Well I would give it to Lasley if he was included in the poll!
-
Immense performance today from the team. That's why we are 'Well fans! Everyone gave everything today, from Randolph who had 3 or 4 great saves to Sutton up front who looked like a different player to the one was playing on Wednesday. However, I thought Lasley was absolutely tremendous. I thought he was out for a month when he limped off on Wednesday, even when he was named in the team today I wasn't expecting him to last the match and not be 100% but how wrong could I be? Outstanding. Great atmosphere, great match and funnily enough my flu has cleared right up - the healing power of a glorious 'Well victory!
-
Dundee United will make it, that leaves one place for us, St.Johnstone, Caley and possible Aberdeen and Hibs. I think we have as good a chance as any of them as they are no great shakes. We'll have to win against Utd and Aberdeen and probably take something from Inverness
-
Saunders, Jones, Craigan all out, Lasley and Jennings probably out, if not probably not fit. Don't look good does it? Still I'm getting out my sick bed for it, hope springs eternal! Team? What I would pick from our very limited options - Randolph Page, Hutchinson, Hammell Murphy, Hateley, Forbes, Meechan, Gunning Sutton, Jeffers
-
Last nights performance was trash but you are cherry picking your negativity a little I think. They didn't look motivated last night but against Rangers in the semi final? Against Aberdeen coming back from 1-0? Against Kilmarnock when they did everything but score? Even against Hamilton when we played them off the park for the first half, admittedly easing off later but with a lead. I only go to home matches and cup games but generally over McCall's tenure I don't think lack of motivation is something that has screamed out at me.
