  1. Boyle probably said something like 'get it up ye ya two faced wee rat'. Good on him. The fact that this is a police matter now is a total joke.
  2. Ya Bezzer!

    Aberdeen

Agree with this, the two goalscorers were the two candidates and not just for their goals. Good to see Hutchy have a good game today as I thought he was pretty ropey against Utd midweek, but he cruised it today and he looked like he enjoyed his goal! Still not Humphreys biggest fan but I'm going to give him the MotM, if only he gave that level of performance more often but good to see him with two good finishes in the last two matches.
  3. Not as good a performance as Celtic or Dundee Utd but thought we deserved to win the match by the two goals. Never really felt under pressure even when Aberdeen got the late goal back. Having said that Randy pulled off a save today that might be the difference between us being Top or Bottom 6. Missed Jennings today and Lasley didn't have the best of matches although you can't question his commitment so we didn't quit manage the midfield dominance we had over Dundee Utd but we always looked more likely to score than Aberdeen, Langfield pulled off a couple of good saves and Jones missed a sitter. I've been a critic of Humphrey but he played well today, Murphy followed up his performance in midweek and Jones was good in patches. Maurice Ross looked a little rusty but defended well enough and it was good to see him coaching our younger defenders.
  4. Bring back the old square posts! Anyone know how many Scottish Cup Semi Finals we've contested? Last time against Rangers, 1990/91 of course, and I vaguely remember one before that against Rangers but that's as far as my memory goes back. Anyone got the answer?
  5. Really important match today, hopefully we will have the energy to get through it after the midweek match but I think if you look closely teams don't tend to do well after a midweek match especially when the opponents didn't have a match. I suspect we will really have to win this one to get into the Top 6, especially if St. Johnstone beat managerless Kilmarnock today, lets hope that doesn't happen! As for Brown give him plenty of stick in the ground and none outside, people that take these things outside of the football match itself show us up as morons.
  6. 8,000 tickets seems pretty optimistic to me but you never know. Would be surprised if there are more than 10,000 at the match, can't see either side bringing more than 5,000 at the current ticket prices and with it live on TV.
  7. Like most have said will be decent cover for Saunders enabling Hateley to play in midfield. He is a decent standard of player who knows the Scottish game inside out and will bring valuable and much needed experience into the defence and the side in general. He had a bit of a temper on him earlier on his career though so I hope he has cut that out, we don't want to bring in a player only for him to get sent off or suspended.
  8. I've said this before and it might not be popular with home fans but if you want to attract bigger crowds you aim to attract away fans, not home fans. Basically the home fans turn out anyway and reducing prices only attracts a small increase. Say from 4,000 to 4,500. However if Dundee Utd have a support of 7,000 fans you have a much bigger market to aim at. Get 1,000 or 2,000 of them to travel to that match and you get bigger attendances. I also think having a good away support at a match makes it a much better experience. The last two games have been great because there was two sets of supporters in the ground. A lot of that excitement is lost when, say, Hamilton Accies bring over 100 fans. I don't go to away matches any more because its just not affordable but I would if clubs made it financially viable. Honestly I think clubs have to look at away fans being much more important than they are at the moment.
  9. Ya Bezzer!

    Dundee Utd

Thought Stevie Hammell, Jamie Murphy and Steve Jennings were the pick of a very good bunch. Went for Jenno in the end.
  10. Another magnificent performance, two in a row at Fir Park, we'll start getting used to that! Bossed the game from beginning to end, everyone played at least well, some had brilliant performances (Hammell, Murphy, Jennings) and, well, we are in the semi final. I was going to go away on holiday in May, that might be oot the windae now!
  11. A jonah is someone that brings bad luck and my nickname for a friend of mine who only goes to a 2 or 3 matches a year, but we always - ALWAYS - lose when he is there. At least he got Jim Gannon the sack!
  12. We are as good as out. 'The Jonah' is going tonight and when 'The Jonah' goes we never, ever win!
  13. We have a decent enough spine of the team to get into or challenge for a Top 6 place but we need more experience in the squad, too many young players. It's obvious that our confidence has never really recovered from the Brown saga and of course the squad has also been depleted since then. If McCall brings in 3 or 4 seasoned, decent quality players during the close season I can't see us struggling to badly, perhaps not be as consistent as under Brown but you can't expect European or even a Top 6 finish ever season.
  14. Yeah, this one. When we went from 3-1 down to 4-3 up I went so mental I took a dizzy turn and almost collapsed! Shame Marshall sold the win in injury time. Think that was his last game for us. I'm sure that it's still the only time we've ever scored 4 against the Old Firm in a match in my lifetime. I still maintain the best game I've ever been at Fir Park was against Falkirk. 2-1 up, 3-2 down, miss two penalties, win 5-3! Not picking another 3, just too difficult.
  15. In the same boat really. I was 17 and I'd been supporting Motherwell regularly since about 87/88 so it was only a few seasons before we'd actually won an actual trophy! Looking back now I didn't appreciate just what we had achieved. 20 years later and with no guarantee that we will win anything again in my lifetime now I have a better understanding of just what that team did. I do feel lucky though that I did witness it and I hope that the younger generation get to see something similar. It seems to be a once in a generation thing. My mum saw the cup winners in the 1950's, I saw the 90's victory, fingers crossed the weans will see a triumph as well.
  16. Watched the highlights. Looked like a good game with a good atmosphere. Nice to see, I don't like this 'the cups are dead' school of thought. Thought we really dodged a bullet when Saunders tackled Goodwillie. Definite penalty, how the referee didn't give it I'm not quite sure. Disappointed at both goals we lost. Gunning needs a wrap on the knuckles for his rolling around instead of defending malarkey and Randolph should have done better, the shot was straight at him. The second goal, it's so crazy you don't even know where to point the finger. Certainly Saunders as right back was nowhere to be seen, and I assume Hutchinson was supposed to be right centre half. Why everyone got drawn left I'm not to sure. Anyway, looked like a decent performance overall and hopefully we can edge it at Fir Park. At least Brian Welsh won't be playing this time!
  17. I agree with the point but I'm wondering if McCall has encouraged Lasley to get forward more often. He's bagged a couple of goals recently and he seems to be getting into offensive position more often than in recent times. As for the box to box midfielder when did we last have one? Probably the young Phil O'Donnell. I remember telling everyone we should sign young Colin Cameron from Raith Rovers!
  18. 2-2 away to Dundee United is a decent result, especially as Utd had a pretty strong side out. Just a shame we couldn't concentrate a bit harder after we scored.
  19. Good start, and another goal for Sutton. I'm probably going to be out of the country for the Cup Final so I've got a feeling...
  20. On your first point, you name 6 players. Great. So that means on a good day almost half our team is very young and inexperienced. On a good day. Now how often in the second half of the season have we been able to put out those players that you've mentioned in the same team? All of them have either had injuries or suspensions or fitness problems except Sutton. So on a good day half the team are youngsters but more often than not more than half have been. I already answered your second point, it should be down to the players to motivate themselves for matches. A manager can't do it week after week after week. He can only do it sparingly other wise it just becomes ineffective and routine. It goes in one ear and out the other.
  21. Wasn't there but young teams are inconsistent so not a huge surprise. Unless we can bring in some good experienced pros then things aren't going to change a great deal. Second point, it shouldn't really be down to the manager to motivate the team. Players should be self motivated and I think we have too many players at the club at the moment who are not mentally strong enough to do that. Again it may be related to the inexperience of our team with so many young players. I don't blame McCall for keeping with the side that beat Celtic but hopefully Craigan returns for the next match. He is still the best defender at the club.
  22. Poor, even a point up there would have been massive but this gives Inverness a huge boost, I think they go above us now. Really need to win those two home games now against Aberdeen and Dundee Utd.
  23. Randolph hasn't even played a full season and he's the best we've ever had for some! Dykstra first, Maxwell second, for me. Then you have Howie, Ruddy. If Randolph maintains his form he could go into the second tier at the end of the season but not before. We've had other guys that had good individual season's among a mixed bag (Marshall, Goram, Billy Thomson, even, help ma boab, Graeme Smith).
  24. Gotta Love the Las! But he's missed a few games this season though through injury and suspension, Hammell and Randolph have been excellent pretty much all season.
  25. If someone puts in an offer for Randolph we'll probably drive them to the cash machine! Worth remembering that he hasn't keep these clean sheets on his own and that others, including players folks here are only to quick to slag off, are responsible to. But at this stage of the season Randolph and Hammell would be my picks for Motherwell player of the season.
