  1. Gallagher. Had a wee slip near the end but otherwise breezed through the match.
  2. Bit of a frustrating match today. Felt we completely dominated the first half but it was summed up in James Scott, destroyed the Hibs full back but the final touch wasn't quite there. That was sort of echoed across the team - good performances but lacking end product. Second half didn't think we were at the same level, we still dominated but we gave Hibs more opportunities to counter attack which were the only occasions they really looked dangerous. MacIver did well enough but when Manzinga came on he provided the physicality that perhaps MacIver lacked. Was only denied by a great save. Our performances at set pieces was poor considering Hibs aren't exactly a big team. Overall the performance was decent enough but just lacking that edge up front.
  3. Bare in mind these are only league match appearances between 2010 - 2019 so some players would have more appearances, Mark Reynolds for instance had a lot more, but certainly for the current squad that's correct. In fact 11 of our current squad have made their Motherwell debuts this season - if you include Casper Sloth who hasn't yet made a league appearance and isn't on the list.
  4. I was away all day yesterday and I don't usually comment on matches I don't attend but just wanted to say what an excellent result last night was. Also a wee fact - we've worn our away strip 5 times this season and won 4 and drawn 1. Must imbue the greatest super powers since our 'Dortmund' strip I reckon.
  5. Today - 0 seconds. Pulled off the individual season spreadsheets that I've been keeping for 15 years.
  6. I said as much. There are at 10+ midfielders who were much worse (Gomis, Clay, etc) but they tended to be central midfielders and given the limited choice of left wingers that's who I went for.

  8. Didn't play many games and was as far back in the decade as you could get. That and some ignominious competition probably got him off the hook.
  9. He played once from the start and once from the bench. We lost both matches to Ross County and Dundee.
  10. Wasn't on much over the holidays so must have missed this. My Motherwell XI 2010 - 2020 Gk - Darren RANDOLPH (also my all time pick) Rb - Tom HATELEY (strange that we've been fairly weak at right back all through the decades, not a great selection but edged it over Tait) Cb - Stephen CRAIGAN (better than often given credit for) Cb - Shaun HUTCHINSON Lb - Steven HAMMELL Rw - Chris HUMPHREY (again bit weak down the right, Ainsworth was just too inconsistent and declined over his period at the club, while Humphery left a much better player than when he joined so he gets the nod) Cm - Keith LASLEY Cm - David TURNBULL (not even one full season but just too good to leave out. Actually a lot of players in this area were highly inconsistent with good seasons and very poor seasons - McFadden, Pearson, Ojamaa etc. Nicky Law probably the hardest done by not to make it.) Lw - Jamie MURPHY (actually preferred him playing through the middle but still good enough to take the left midfield spot) Cf - John SUTTON (Another, like Craigan, who I feel doesn't get the credit he deserves, excellent goal record over multiple seasons) Cf - Louis MOULT (our best striker since Tommy Coyne. McDonald and Higson deserve mentions) And my nightmare XI Gk - Gunnar Nielsen RB - Fraser Kerr, CB - Louis Lang, CB - Zak Jules, LB - Joe Chalmers RW - Deimantas Petravicius, MC (You could easily have about 10 absolutely deserving duds in here but I'll go with...) Jake Taylor, MC - Paul Lawson, LW - Elliot Frear (although not good enough overall, probably doesn't deserve to play along side most of the rest of this team). Cf - Alex Fisher, Cf - Jacob Blyth (only had 1 league start but I can't not put him in!)
  11. I was there two weeks ago. Took the opportunity during the winter break to visit some grounds I'd not been to before. Maybe not the most exciting draw in the world but we have a pretty good record there recently and should be a decent match.
  12. Been a fairly typical performance from us. Look like scoring a goal or two against lesser teams but think we've been slack at the back. Dundee are poor but they have still managed to create a few chances that better teams might have done more with. Would imagine we'll get the third in the second half unless we totally turn off.
  13. He's only 32. Not old for a goalkeeper. Could easily still have 6, 7, 8 seasons in front of him.
  14. When the draw was made I was confident about this match but with a pretty tepid defeat at home to Accies, the winter break and the 'build up' to the match concerning Robinson there is an accumulation of factors that might unsettle us. We should still win, Dundee's form has been far from stellar a division below us, I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a damp squib. The second half of the season is almost like a new season in itself these days so you are never sure what you are going to get.
  15. Turnbull can't really be expected to do much for us this season given his injury lay off and lack of fitness and in my opinion Maguire should be ahead of Semple or Cornelius if there is a midfield spot in the team. If we are bringing someone in we need a midfielder that is comfortable on the ball, has a bit of vision and grafts. Tough ask but its what is needed. We could also do with a target man style forward because Scott is better coming in from wide areas and Long can't hold the ball up. The right back area is a position that needs improve but perhaps isn't as pressing as the other areas mentioned right at this moment.
  16. Long provided the bit of magic but even his game was flawed as he is incapable of holding the ball up. However since everyone else was in the same boat scoring the goal gets him the MotM.
  17. The problem with Campbell is he tries too hard. When we aren't playing well he tries to cover for the deficiencies of his team mates and spoils his own game. Just look to last season where the first half of the season he looked out of sorts then improved massively when he had better players around him with the introduction Gorrin and Turnbull. Right now the guys Campbell is playing along side in midfield aren't of the standard they should be. Sure we have points on the board, sure we are sitting high in the table but I'm telling you right now our central midfield options aren't as good as our league placing would suggest. If we don't fix it a natural equilibrium will occur and we will find ourselves losing more matches like yesterday. Campbell needs better players around him. If we can provide them it will be better for Campbell and for the team.
  18. To be fair to Robinson he can only make three subs and about 8 players needed hauled off today. I think he got it wrong changing the formation but he was put in a bad position but an appalling second display by just about the whole team. Managers can pull things out the bag sometimes but I think today the level of performance across the team put that beyond much hope.
  19. I think if you are being completely honest our results have been better than our performances recently so I'm not that surprised about what happened but having said that it was our poorest performance in a long while. Started well and scored a good goal but almost immediately after scoring the goal we went into first gear, became withdrawn, got sluggish and sloppy. Even then Accies should have still opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes but they too were poor in the first half so we kind of got away with it. Second half was atrocious and Accies gave us a hosing. 7 or 8 players just didn't look interested and the truth is 1-2 defeat made us look better than we were, Accies should have scored more. Could easily have been 1-4 or 1-5. Gillespie has made a great save, Moyo has headed inches wide and there was plenty more chances beside those for Accies. If we'd won today we would have gone into the Scottish Cup match with a lot of confidence, I think today's performance has got to put a little bit of doubt in there now because we were really so poor. I've been saying for a while that our central midfield area is a concern and today didn't change that.
  20. I'm down the other end of the pitch so I'll take your word on that. Even if he did I thought he was one of our better players and has done fairly well since he came into the team.
  21. He's a good player but he's never a £7m player. Turnbull was a better player last year than Kent.
  22. Don't think we are really grasping what I'm saying. I'm saying when we come up against technically better players we really struggle. We've beaten teams higher up the league table than Hibs but Hibs have a standard of player that's technically better than ours. If you think we keep possession and passed the ball well today, fine. When we win, people white wash over our deficiencies. When we lose players are accused of bottling or not showing up. What I'm trying to highlight is that our performance today was actually fairly consistent with how we played against St Johnstone, St Mirren and Hearts.
  23. Fair enough. But do you think Hearts are there as a measure of quality? I'm thinking more about the four teams in the league that have any kind of quality about them - Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hibs.
  24. Has to be one of Mugabe, Gallagher or Campbell. I know Gillespie made a few good saves but I've mention why I wouldn't consider him in the main match thread. Gallagher for me.
