  1. Interesting that we've signed another player we'd tried to sign in previous windows. I'd still like to know who's picking our players because there have been a number of times when we've pursued the same players after a change of manager. I'm fine with the signing but I'm not sure where he fits into the team if we are playing 4-3-3.

    Vs Hibs

At £29 for a ticket they better win. Would be great to hear the booing as well at the end. Can't stand Levein. Scottish football goes up a notch when he's out the door.
  3. Back four were excellent today but I'd have to pick between Campbell and Scott. I'll go with Campbell.

    Vs Hibs

First thing I was going to say was that was by far the best back four we've played this season. Carroll at left back and Hartley in the middle in place of Dunne makes us far more defensively secure. I've been dismissive of Hartley, I felt his lack of mobility would be a problem but today his reading of the game was excellent enough that that never happened and of course he's always a threat up the other end - compare with Dunne who is 6'3 and never scored a goal for us. Also, contrast our defensive display against Hibs who were an absolute shambles at the back. Midfield I feel there's still a bit of work to do there when we are on the ball, we don't have the touch, or composure that we had with Turnbull and Gorrin last season, but everyone put in the effort and it was a big improvement on the last couple of matches. Thought Scott was excellent again playing in a wider position. The one down side was that 1-0 up we missed probably about 6 or 7 real chances. We've got to be a bit more ruthless when it comes to taking our opportunities because the game was open for most of the 90 minutes and really it shouldn't have been. Overall though the kind of response to the Hearts match that you'd have been looking for.

    Vs Hibs

This is an important match for me. A shite Hearts came here and won at a trot without even playing anything above average. Now a shite Hibs are coming to Fir Park and if we don't put them away our chances of improvement, at least with Turnbull out, look limited. Hibs best result and only win in their last 8 league matches was a late goal 1-0 win at home to St. Mirren. They struggled to look convincing in the League Cup groups - a draw against bottom of League 2 Stirling, were far from convincing against Alloa and Elgin and then lost 3 goals to Morton. No excuses. These are the games we absolutely have to start winning if there is going to be any kind of progress.
  6. If A is bad and B is much worse, A will win easily. We won, deserved to win but almost all the players were not at the level they need to be. The idea that because you win or even dominate a match means are good enough over a season to compete at a much higher level (we will rarely play a team as poor as Accies were on Saturday) is so simplistic it's, well, par for the course round here.
  7. I thought our midfield was pish on Saturday. Went for Scott. Thought he showed something playing wide. The rest were at best mediocre.
  8. This is a slightly bizarre comment from the manager. It took Hartley to be unavailable for him to realise? I said back in May we needed two centre halves in.
  9. We won, we deserved to win, 3 points on the board, away from home too but like you I thought there were problems out there. For me we didn't play much better than last week and individually right across the park we weren't good enough. We got away with it because it was Accies and a poor Accies at that. Against most teams, most of the time, we aren't going to win playing like that. This is a building block, a launching pad but almost every player is short of where he needs to be.
  10. Been the better team without doing anything special. Scott has been decent wide but there isn't enough movement in forward areas. No runners from deep, no interchanging, pretty static. No surprise our goals were a corner and a penalty. Also think we have been terrible in the full back positions. A better team than Accies would have caused us bigger problems. Perhaps 2nd half they will prioritises balls played behind our full backs.
  11. According to the bookies a Motherwell away win is the second most likely result in the Premiership today, after Hibs beating St Johnstone at Easter Road.
  12. Every one of these Friday night matches has been great. Then you go to the Motherwell game on a Saturday....
  13. Have a bad feeling about this one. Promoting guys like Ross Cunningham, Lewis Smith and Reegan Mimnaugh has given Accies a new lease of life from last season. It's not working for us now but do I expect Robinson to change it? No. I'm open to being pleasantly surprised but not expecting it.
  14. I thought he made a few mistakes at Dundee and I was surprised when Celtic signed him but they must have seen something in him and he did get game time when he first arrived there. And just look at the quality gap between someone like Declan Gallagher brought in from Livingston and our existing central defenders. I doubt he's worse than you know who and probably a step up.
  15. I said at the end of last season we needed two centre backs in. If we want to improve Dunne and Hartley aren't good enough, end of story.
  16. Calm down. Frear wasn't good enough after two and a half seasons. These guys have had three matches.
  17. I thought Tait was poor for long spells in the second half of last season - and that was when the team was doing well. He's a guy that gets a pass from the support for some reason. Maybe he's got far too comfortable playing every week.
  18. As I said if Hylton, Seedorf etc are out of their depth you can play whoever you like in a 4-3-3 and they will be standing up on their own all match. If you want to help Scott, or whoever is up front, you put another striker up front and change the formation, not change the striker and keep the guys that can't hack it on the wings.
  19. Robinson's problem is that he has one tactical formula and doesn't change it. First of all it makes it very easy to counter once other teams are on to it. Secondly when he needs to change it and the chips are down, he doesn't take on the responsibility of a 'good' manager, ie, put himself on the line. He's been pretty harsh in this public statement today on the players but this stood out a mile "Players have a habit of making you look stupid, but that's the level of player we're able to recruit, and we have to educate them. That has to happen sooner rather than later or they won't play in the team." Sooner or later? What about the next match? We need to find something that works at this level and you don't do that without making changes when it doesn't work. If Robinson can't see that Dunne is useless in a 4-3-3, that Donnelly can't do what Gorrin did, that the absence of Turnbull makes the current formation debatable, that you need quality wingers to play this way you'd have to worry big time. And so we go back to the first sentence of this post. Robinson lets himself down with his lack of adaptability, he needs to have more than one tactical idea and he needs to be able to change it when it doesn't work.
  20. Scott doesn't need to go out on loan, he needs the players around him to show up.
  21. We can buy whoever you like but they are doing nothing with the wide players and midfield performing as they are. Playing a 4-3-3 with a striker that is completely isolated is the problem.
  22. Created our only chance of the first half and gets pulled. When guys that did fuck all stay on the pitch. By all means bring on Long but change the formation to 4-4-2. Match could best be summarized as guff beats shite. Hearts are at best bang average and they have come here and put us out the cup, and even though we were terrible they only managed that due to a crazy error from our goalkeeper. A lot like last season when they beat us at Fir Park due to a McHugh error. Where do you start? Trying to play the ball out through Dunne is madness. Not only is he slow as fuck moving the ball, he can't pass and has no vision whatsoever. The midfield isn't fit for purpose. Polworth has a touch but he just doesn't impose himself on the game and Donnelly isn't technically proficient enough to replace Gorrin. The wide players are a big worry because against the three top level teams we've played they have done absolutely fuck all. Hylton looked out his depth tonight. And although Seedorf was a little better he was still fucking miles out. Feel really sorry for Scott who was completely isolated with no one to play off. Play like that against Accies and we'll get nothing again. But, hey, at least we'll have a plastic pitch to blame everything on. I hope to god it doesn't take Robinson 6 months again to realise a rethink is needed.
  23. Hearts are absolutely fucking atrocious. This is a game we should be winning with no excuses. Saw Naismith went off injured with a hamstring pull last weekend, I assume he won't play in this match. Him and Halkett are the only players in the Hearts team I'd worry about.
  24. Gillespie was great last season and deservedly locked down the number 1 place. Don't think he's start this season in great form but at the same time he's not throwing goals in. Think some of the criticism around the Griffiths goal was harsh. For me you don't drop an established goalkeeper for a few poor kick outs in one match, especially when he's kept us in the game previous at Livingston.

    Striker

Scott is a player. If we aren't going to bring in an established goal scorer we should give Scott a run and let him develop.
