  1. And like Butcher, with the exception of the CIS Cup final, he might have the balls to have a right good go at Celtic and Rangers...
  2. My team would be along the lines of: ...................Randolph Hateley Saunders Craigan Hammell ...................Reynolds ...........Lasley........Fitzpatrick .......Murphy Sutton Blackman No point of sitting back entirely against Celtic as the centre of the defence is their obvious weakness. In particular they struggle to cope with a physical presence so Sutton has to play. Little chance of us going with Reynolds in midfield but we do need a 3 man midfield in order to try and prevent Celtic controlling the game.
  3. Agreed, and you just need to look at the rest of the SPL. if Lennon and McCoist are good enough for the Old Firm then what can we really hope for.
  4. As I said a lot earlier in this thread, the likes of Lambert didn't get off to the best of his starts in his managerial career but look at him now. Let's hope McCall has learned from his mistakes at Bradford. Would be interesting to hear the views of the Bradford fans. hopefully he is tactically aware. One thing for certain is that he would inject some passion and belief into the club. Despite playing for Rangers, I loved him as a player.
  5. I'd take McCall. Far from convinced but worth a shot.
  6. For those that would take Jimmy Calderwood, bear in mind that Sandy Clark would more than likely be his number 2. Jimmy Nicholl is at Cowdenbeath these days.
  7. Plan B will be Tommy McLean or Jimmy Calderwood to the end of the season.
  8. Young doesn't have a clue about tactics.
  9. We seem to be searching too far to the left at the moment. I'm not sure how much we can read into the fact that there were 40 applicants. Many would just be supplying their CV before having a serious look at the job. I still can't fathom why someone like Derek Adams hasn't been approached.
  10. Dave Penney was a bombscare at Oldham last season IIRC
  11. I'm not entirely convinced by our criteria which we have made public. While it is great to bring in someone who has contacts down south, the prority should be bringing in someone that is enthusiastic about working with what we have and being fully committed to developing the youngsters we have at our disposal. Digressing slightly but we are doing ourselves no favours by playing Jamie Murphy out of position every week in order to accomodate a player that will be nowhere near Fir Park next season.
  12. Pretty depressing for a Boxing day game.
  13. Think it is clear that many have already taken that option given the amount of empty seats on Sunday.
  14. If Gordon Young is still in charge, a truckload of dough will be going on Celtic. Shame really as Celtic are there for the taking just now.
  15. Arrived in the East Stand at 2.15 yesterday. Within 5 minutes of watching the warm-up, you could see that the players were not in the right frame of mind for such a big game. Absolutely no focus or intensity to the warm-up. With regards the starting line-up, it is clear to see why Young is not cut out to be a manager. No Fitzpatrick or Sutton? FFS, if you are going to compete with Rangers, you need to be prepared for a battle. And from a tactical perspective, if your creative players are stuck out wide, you need players in the middle that are capable of winning the ball back. Ended up leaving after 60 minutes, frustrated with the lack of fight from Motherwell, frozen to the bone and bursting for a pish. We better see a reponse at Parkhead on Wednesday.
  16. Whoever we bring in, I hope they quickly clock on to the fact that Craigan is not captain material. Once again in a time of adversity, he has failed to pull the team together and inspire the kids around him. As much he is a trier and a solid pro, the guy is neither a winner or a leader.
  17. Sbragia is 54 and has never been comfortable with the prospect of being his own man. While he was a relatively big name, I wasn't convinced that he was the right man for the job. Just wish we had considered Derek Adams, really feel we have missed a trick there.
  18. So are Clyde claiming that it will be Sbragia? If we to go down the interim route, which I had heard was Boyle's original idea, then Tommy McLean must be in with a shout. Personally, if the top candidate(s) have knocked it back then I'd be content to go with McCall.
  19. Really sorry to hear that mate, take it easy. Thoughts with you and your family.
  20. Did Sbragia not turn down a coaching job at Birmingham not too long ago? Think sunderland are quite happy for him to speak to other clubs but understandably he is waiting to make the right move.
  21. I wasn't sure that Stubbs had actually been interviewed. Hopefully we can negotiate a deal for Sbragia.
  22. Seems like the club are quite content for the game to be off.
  23. Probably the last time we beat them on Boxing Day...
  24. I find it quite refreshing that the club are keeping their cards close to their chest. Yes they would have liked to have made an appointment by now but if we are going after a decent manager then contract negotiations are unlikely to be straightforward.
