  1. Hughes is not my cup of tea despite his achievements at Falkirk, Inverness and to a lesser extent Hibs. The shift in odds yesterday suggested to me that someone had wind of him getting an interview, which may well be the case. I very much doubt he'll get the job though. Publicly slating his current squad a few weeks into the Raith Rovers job is unlikely to impress any interview panel.
  2. Zak Jules over Liam Lindsay. Am I missing something? Big fan of Dom and I've watched him twice on Alba. He put in solid performances but nothing to suggest he'd be on the radar for international recognition. Having said that he is a boy with talent and therefore the u21 coach wants a closer look at him. Maybe the Everton connection between Gemmill, Naysmith and Faddy has played a part here. No surprise with Cadden despite his drop in form since getting injured against Celtic. Plenty potential there.
  3. Hughes has previously talked about his approach to interviews: http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37216822 Can't see that going down well.
  4. On the betting front, Robinson drifted from 1/6 to 1/3 while Hughes has came in from 20/1 to 3/1 today. Edit - Yogi now odds on. Yes, it doesn't take much to move such a small market but some people must believe he has been interviewed.
  5. If we are looking 'under the bonnet' (Dempster must have gave him that one) then you can understand us taking our time, particularly with the international break next week. Again though, the ongoing delay suggest the Board are not sure about Robinson. The limited noises coming out the club when McGhee was sacked implied we wanted an appointment before the Aberdeen game. I therefore suspect we had 1 or 2 in mind but it's not come to fruition and we are now fumbling around trying to find the best of a relatively poor bunch (or not giving up in our original interests).
  6. If Robinson comes out as top candidate it suggests to me that the opportunity to manage Motherwell has never been less attractive in my time.
  7. Oldham were reportedly dire to watch during Robinson's stint with an obsession to play for 0-0 draws, which fits with the NI profile. While we need a manager that can sort out our defensive side of the game, there needs to a balance in order to keep the players and fans engaged. I like Robinson, he seems a very good coach that can organise a team but given his record at Oldham, regardless of circumstances, he shouldn't be in contention for the Motherwell job on a permanent basis.
  8. If we had confidence in Robinson, why go through this process?
  9. When the sacking of McGhee was announced and the club statement suggested a swift replacement, I was confident we had a one or two strong contenders in mind. We've either been knocked back or my initial confidence was misjudged. Alternatively we are carry out our due diligence to the nth degree. As an aside, our ownership model of almost being run 'by committee' is unlikely to lead to a streamlined recruitment process and in some instances, the lack of a decisive figurehead may detract potential applicants.
  10. Any coverage of Hayes reported kick on Cadden's face minutes before the goal?
  11. I had presumed the bevvy got the better of George Burley. Otherwise, I'd happily see him at Fir Park.
  12. Hadn't realised Craigan was in the TV gantry at Pittodrie yesterday rather than the bench. Thought he was charged with being an interim first team coach? Certainly underlines where his loyalties lie.
  13. Another winning goal from Ross Forbes tonight to put Morton above Dundee Utd.
  14. Any chat about potential applicants making the trip to Pittodrie today? I see Raith Rovers got pumped 4-0 so that should knock any talk about Yogi on the head.
  15. Sounded like a textbook NI performance. Sore to lose a goal so late on but it sounds like Aberdeen fully deserved the 3 points. Credit to Robinson in getting us 3 points at Killie and following it up with a respectable performance today. It's now time to get the now man in though and hopefully we can approach the St Johnstone game in a positive manner.
  16. Gordon is the NI u20 boy from Sheff Utd. So all the injury doubts have made it. Looks to me like we've maybe went with 1 defender too many but we'll see how it pans out.
  17. Alex Neil would be an outside shout for the Scotland job that will inevitably become available next month. He'd probably rather continue building his experience with a decent club team in England though. Not sure I'd compare him to Tommy Wright, Norwich played some lovely football for much of his time there. His downfall was being able to organise a team that could defend.
  18. Tweet from Jane Lewis to say Coyle, Davies and McCulloch didn't apply. Don't think McGhee applied mind you. I suspect the likes of Freedman, Pressley and Dickov may have expressed an interest.
  19. Yeah, certainly a step in the right direction.
  20. http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/football/15146426.Richard_Tait_out_for_the_season_as_injury_crisis_threatens_Stephen_Robinson__39_s_bid_for_Motherwell_job/ I suspect we've played him a couple of times when it's been touch and go.
  21. Tait out for the season. Big blow as we don't appear to have adequate backup.
  22. Brian McClair the latest ex-Motherwell player to be quoted by skybet. Personally, I can't see any of the names quoted so far ending up at Fir Park. Hughes, Duffy, Simo etc just seem like non-starters to me while I think if it was a Coyle/Davies style appointment we wouldn't be going through interviews next week. I don't follow English football as closely as I used to but there's bound to be unemployed managers down there with decent experience that have submitted an application.
  23. Real defensive worries by the sounds of it. Often with press conferences one or two players carrying a knock make it but we potentially aren't far away from a back 2 of Ferguson and Chalmers. Meanwhile our two fullbacks are struggling for fitness and the first choice replacement, McMillan, got brought down a notch or two by Craigan midweek.
  24. If Owen Coyle was in the running, I'm not sure we'd be carrying out interviews as he would more than likely be the standout candidate. None of the other names listed are inspiring imo. I'm increasingly warming to the idea of handing Robinson the reigns until the end of the season before appointing a young up and coming manager in the summer.
  25. This is the dilemma we face following McGhee's abrupt demise. In an ideal world there would be a Craig Brown type character lurking to get us to the end of the season, but I'm struggling to think of any names. If the Board have absolute confidence in Robinson, they may task him with ensuring our premiership status while looking towards a more dynamic appointment in the summer.
