At the moment not amongst the front runners. The jury is still out due to his injury and lack of game time.
Personally I think he will come good and within a year will be a mainstay in our defence but I’m not yet convinced he will go on to greater things - although I do have high hopes for the guy.

Oddly enough I see our defensive formation depending to a large extent on mattters further up the field specifically the wings. if Hastie and Aryibi and maybe even Frear move on then we may revert to a back 5 although I hope not. Presumably Tom Aldred will move on. Assuming that it will be a back 4 I'd see Gallagher (if he signs) partnering Charles Dunne with Barry Maguire as first back up in the middle. I don't know where this leaves Peter Hartely though. At full back Richard Tait will be guaranteed a start either on the left or on the right. If pushed I'd say on the left with Liam Grimshaw on the opposite side. This is hypothetical of course and the manager's ideas may change after the first few league games ie Barry Maguire may not make the necessary step up or equally he could be outstanding and force his way into the starting line up. Gallagher might be the real thing or he may struggle.
Mbulu not going to make the grade or the forgot man?

I'll be pleasantly surprised if we finish top 6, but definitely agree we should be aiming for that. If we don't win this one, that gives Hibs the edge in the race.
I think they still have the edge if we win,
Their last three games are Livi (away), Killie (home) and Hearts (away)
With ours being StJ (home), Aberdeen (away) and Rangers (home).
So even with a win on Saturday to move into 6th place, I think we will need a fair slice of good fortune to stay in 6th.

Great news

Km totally agree, from what I could see everyone was standing applauding when he left the park.
-
Sun says Rangers are close to signing Hastie (rumour) and we get 3 pages of opinions.
Just read in the Record that Aldred wants to talk about staying - with direct quotes from him - and nothing said. I really hope that we can do a deal with him.

Pity if he’s off - paper only say Rangers are close to signing him - but I think he will get s game with Rangers. Kent loan deal ends so he should replace him.
As for not playing for us again that’s stupid. His goals could be the difference between 1 or 2 league places.

How long does it take to get from the park to the station at Kilmarnock?

it's a decent left back we need by all accounts Dunne was terrible today.
So he apparently had a bad game, no need to drop him for 1 bad game, ffs - next game he could be MotM.
-
Sweet, sweet victory all the better for that howler from the keeper. Picking the Motm will be hard.

I'm not sure pointing out he wasn't fit was unfair - it was obvious, and a perfectly valid point to make when fans are clamouring for U20s to make the step up. It's not as simple as playing well against the other youngsters; you need to be fitter and stronger.
I'm also not sure he's been pilloried anywhere. All I read is people hoping he gets more first team exposure and, as you say, I'm sure we'll see him as the season wears on.
Weeyin I totally agree that the managers comments were valid but I’m sure I’ve read on here them being used to unfairly knock Livingston - unless I’ve misread some posts.
-
Adam Livingston unfortunately was thrown in unprepared at the deep end and had a poor game against Celtic.
The managers comment afterward about fitness has been misused to unfairly pillar the guy since.
Given time and a more orthodox introduction to first team football, I think he will prove his worth.
Im also sure that he learned more in that Celtic game than anyone could have taught him.
-
I’m sure I’ve said before that we seem to find it easier to get points from teams above us in the league as they are more likely to play an attacking game which give us gaps to exploit but teams like those below us and Livingston close shop and we just don’t have the class to break them down.

I’d have had him out before Christmas. It’s then down to those in charge to make the right choice for his replacement.
So you’re happy to let those in charge use their judgment to pick his replacement but you’re not happy to let them keep him if they think he’s the best guy for the job?

Be interesting to see if we sign any other players before the trip to Tenerife or take any trialists again
On our budget they’re probably all crashing out at Alex Rodriguez maws house

We’ve got a Cadden-size hole on the right for another couple of months so looks like a good shout
Cadden replacement? That was my thought as I watched the clip.

That's probably down to his agent and the" David has done well, broke into 1st team etc, so I think he should get more cash" conversation.
I’d be surprised if we haven’t offered him a very good offer for what we can afford but he will get better offers from other bigger clubs willing to take a chance on him which I think he will be advised to take.

Defo require a neat player in there to create chances, or Turnball could slot in there

All the best to him.

Three weeks before we resume football I thought I’d start this chat.
With 12 games to the split and - by my reckoning- requiring between 15 & 17 points to avoid the play off spot, can it be done before the split or how much of a squeaky bum time will it be post split?
Games pre split are
Hibs - H
Dundee - A
Livi - H
StM- A
Hearts -H
Celtic - A
Killie - A
Hamilton - H
Hibs - A
StJ - H
Dons - A
Rangers - H
personally I believe there are at least 5 winnable games but knowing us I can see us losing games we should win but pick up a couple of surprising points along the way so all in all 12 to 14 points leaving us a couple of points short by the split and squeaky bum time until we crawl over the line.

On the ‘smart’ agent point... Whilst, I think it’s incredibly naive to suggest coin is the main factor. Modern players look to develop too if the focus is there. Turnbull has that in abundance. Fanciful notion and a tug on the heartstrings of many “play first team for another year to develop”. Crock of shit. Scottish football is fucking chronic & development is an afterthought to survival. Even at the big two. Flourish at Under 23’s, better facilities, coaching - it’s a different world. More power to him seeing that
That didn’t work out for Robbie Leitch - a player I thought would go on to better things.
He lasted 1 year at Burnley before ending up in Croatia via StMirren & Queens Park.
-
I’m assuming that we would need to offer him a new contract by a certain date to receive compensation, as I believe the reason we missed out on anything for Robbie Lietch was due to not offering him one on time.
Anyone able to confirm this?
-
Interestingly Livingstone didn’t play today for the reserved. Anyone know if he’s injured or being rested to be on the bench for Wednesday night?

Heard today from a friend with contacts within Rangers, that Hastie has had a medical at Ibrox but more interesting was the guys comments that not everyone at Rangers rates him and the guy referred to him as Gareth Hastie because of his comments re Gareth Bale. His words were “he better live up to that or he will get slaughtered”
