    James Mcfadden

That's a pretty cool photo, that.
  2. I'd assumed so, but if I'm being honest I've not really been convinced thus far. Our signing policy certainly hasn't looked like that of a club looking to downsize.
  3. We really need to tighten up on what we're spending. I assumed that Les coming in would have been the perfect time for the club to get its affairs in order and ensure that when he leaves we're not up shit creek without a paddle. The first warning sign for me was when we heard chat about bringing through our own youth, and then proceeded to go ahead and sign a load of new players both to permanent deals and on loan, pushing some of the more promising youth players to the back of the line. Again. I was hit with chat that the young players obviously aren't good enough otherwise they'd be in the team in the first place. The point is that obviously they're not going to be better than Manchester United and Middlesborough youth players! But we can't afford players of that level! We should have cut away the big earners & the dead wood, and brought through some of the lads who've done well in the youth team, coupled with a few outside signings. Will that philosophy see us challenging for top 6? Possibly not, and it may even see us continue to flirt with relegation, but at the end of the day we simply should not be spending more than we bring in. I hate to say it, but Accies have shown the way ahead for clubs of our size when it comes to youth and how to approach that side of things.
  4. Unfortunately, when you don't have a wealthy owner who can cover any costs that arise you can't really afford to take many chances as you don't have that safety net of someone who can fund the shortfall. If & when we're under Society control the money raised and banked is all we have, isn't it? We need to cut our cloth according to what we bring in, and we simply should not be spending more on a yearly basis than that amount.
  5. Not necessarily. That's the point where our scouts and manager earn their money by spotting and recruiting talent that we can pick up relatively inexpensively, can do a job for us over a few years, and who can be sold at a profit. It's a snowball effect, where we budget for bottom six but if we perform beyond that in the league and/or cup we can use that extra money outwith the budget the following season. A club of our size can't afford to shoot for the stars and fail, especially if we're relying on the fans money to pick us up afterwards.
  6. Tell John Boyle that. He was trying to punt the club for years.
  7. The real question is, what's the alternative?
  8. It'll help our position in the league without doubt, but I fear that such a run of results will only paper over the cracks in my opinion, deflecting from the larger issues.
  9. Nah, I'm not really. I'd say more pissed off than anything else. The day something football-related actually causes me to break into a rage is the day I stop following the game for good.
  10. I'm only going on my own opinion from what I've seen on the park. As I said, I've seen Motherwell sides in the past who were simply poor, but certain players in the current squad appeared to me as though they weren't putting in the effort.
  11. It wasn't easy, I'll give you that.
  12. See, I don't think we did get lucky. There's a whole lot about this set-up that doesn't add up to me.
  13. That's a tad unfair I think, as I'm usually one of the more positive posters on the forum. As I said, I've stated how I feel at the moment. I could have said nothing, but figured I'd be honest. Will my feelings soften over time? Maybe. I actually think the opposite of what a lot of people are saying, where they believe that a level of success would see me change my thinking. If we were to actually continue as we are and crowds do dwindle mainly through indifference I'd likely find it tougher to keep away than I would if we were being successful. Fuck knows, I'm jaded to be honest, with the whole thing. The managerial situation has just been the straw I reckon.
  14. Possible. If he does then there's nothing can be done about it. It's also worth pointing out that I'm only speaking for myself. It may very well be the case that the vast majority love McGhee, love the players, love the owner and everything turns out rosy.
  15. No, I want the finances and crowd levels to reach a point where the owners have to actually listen and take on board what the fans believe. I listed my reasons for my thinking, and if you disagree on the players, the new manager and how Les has approached promoting the Well Society then that's fair enough. I simply don't like how business is being conducted at the moment.
  16. Trust me, it's not something I'd welcome with glee, it's a last resort. The last thing I want is to be sat at home on a Saturday whilst the team play.
  17. Unfortunately the support dwindling is the only real way of effecting change in the way the owner is thinking and going about his business. We've seen it time & again with other clubs, unless something affects the financial income nothing really changes. Most club owners are "money" people, and that's all they understand. Truth is, most of them believe they can get away with pretty much whatever they want, because they know that, unlike other businesses, fans of a football team will more often than not continue handing over their cash at the end of the day. I have to believe that the people responsible for bringing McGhee back knew about his reputation and how a fair amount of our support felt about him, right? But they appointed him regardless, because they know that whilst a lot of us will bitch and moan about it we'll still hand over our cash.
  18. I think it's more a case of a build-up of recent events with this appointment pushing me over the edge if i'm being honest. The Well Society and what I can only really describe as its seeming indifference to those who have put their hard-earned into the club, the sale to Les Hutchison and his general demeanour towards the support in general and the way in which he seems to be trying to threaten the fans into buying into the Society, the haphazard way in which we've been spending (wasting more like) money on players, bringing in and paying wages to guys who the previous manager had no real intention of playing whilst the youth get zero opportunities. And now we bring back a manager who constantly had the air of someone who believed himself above the job and above our club when he was here last, and the truth is if we'd mentioned him as a possible returnee as little as six months ago it would have been met with widespread disapproval to say the least. But now? All past transgressions are forgiven and he's the man to lead the club into the future, eh? I've been a supporter of the club for 36 years, but I honestly believe that a lot of money men see football clubs as a venture where they can get away with the kind of behaviour that simply wouldn't be seen as acceptable in other businesses. The reason? Blind loyalty. In no other industry would the customer (which is what we are to the owners if we're honest) put up with the absolute nonsense that football fans of various clubs put up with and yet keep coming back for more? I love the club, but the truth is that the ownership, playing staff and now management is currently manned by people that I really don't want here. Blind loyalty would dictate that I do what's expected and simply mutter under my breath whilst still handing over my cash, right? Well, I'm fed up doing that to be honest. My feeling at the moment is that we currently have a playing squad that was instrumental in the removal of the previous manager (be he considered the correct appointment or not) by downing tools. I've watched shite Motherwell sides in the past, and this current lot weren't shite, they simply weren't trying. There were, in my opinion, influential players in that dressing room who performed well below their capabilities in order to see the removal of a manager they didn't like. There was no thought for the fans who pay an already extortionate amount of money to watch them both home & away. As I said, I can and have supported poor teams who simply are no good. This lot don't fall into that category. They weren't trying in my opinion, and that's unforgivable. So aye, feel free to take the moral high ground and consider yourself a better fan than I am simply because you're willing to accept what the board throw at you. I'm sure your money will be greatly welcomed. I'll follow the club as I always have, but I simply can't bring myself to put money into it in its current state.
  19. Let's hope more than me decides to live with it by refusing to put money into the club in the future then, eh? An already dwindling support which will dwindle further after this appointment hopefully.
  20. At least we get to listen to our manager talk about how good Celtic are after we lose. It'll be like old times.
  21. McGhee's record isn't "patchy" it's fucking terrible since he left us. He's the 2nd worst Aberdeen manager of all time. He beat the likes of Roy Aitken, Steve Paterson, Jimmy Calderwood and Ebbe Skovdahl to that honour.
  22. If you're pissed off now I can't wait to see your reaction when the Hearts questions start coming in a few months from now if he gets us playing well.
  23. Just added some more facts to that report there.
