Hopefully by next summer we can replace at least two of those players from within the club. Hateley with Devlin and Law with Hetherington. If Hollis is still with us, he'll be fine for goalkeeper. Humphrey, Murphy and Higdon might be more problematic, but I wouldn't rule out Higdon re-signing. So maybe looking at replacing two players. So basically the same as this summer...

There is that possibility. Maybe playing his cards close to his chest following what happened with Stevenson? But if we keep the squad we have, I'll be happy. I could even live with losing Hutchinson given defence is where we have most cover...

Surely it's a sensible approach. If there's no one out there within our budget who would improve the squad then surely he'd be wasting our money. Better keeping money in the bank than bringing in someone for the sake of it, only for fans to label him a waste of a wage in a few weeks time...

Rumours on the BBC of Hateley to Rangers. I thought that rumour would come up given they're looking at the RB from Hearts...

Have a feeling that we might be waiting to see who is a free agent after the deadline closes. Having funds available for two or three players is one thing, but still shopping in the very cheap end of the market so it might be the idea to pick up players who aren't in that strong a bargaining position,,,

I could live with that..

Anyone want to make a prediction for number of bodies in and out today? I have a feeling we'll see two out and one in with a free agent added some time later.. Not based on anything other than a gut feeling...

If Stevenson wants to sign for Hearts then not a lot we can do. You'd have to question the sense in rejoining an employer who didn't pay you on time in your previous spell there. But it's his choice to make...

But again, who's to say who created the publicity? Not a lot we can do if someone outwith the club lets the story out..

Given our recent transfers have all happened under the radar, it might be fair to assume that this story was not leaked by us. And if it was leaked by Stevenson or his agent, there's not a lot we can do about that. Disappointing? Possibly. But I'd hope we didn't have all our eggs in one basket...

That is the fear given he looked the best young defender at the club prior to his injuries. He may not have Hutchinson's physique but he doesn't have his rashness either...

Anyone suggesting we take Riordan needs to take a look at the clubs that are interested in him. With his natural ability, there's no way that Ross County (with the greatest respect to them) should have a chance of getting Derek Riordan. The problems he brings clearly outwiegh the benefits, seems to be the thinking of most managers. And given his clear talent, how big must these problems be? If Stuart McCall can get him to screw the nut?? Many managers, some a lot more experienced than Stuart McCall, have thought that they could do this. It has to be a straight no from me. If it was a choice between signing no one before the window closes and signing Riordan, I'd go for no one. At least Bob McHugh is a team player who doesn't appear to be a disruptive influence. I'd rather play Erwin and McHugh up front than have the poison that is Derek Riordan take a wage from our club... But, Mark Kerr. Yes. Experienced and the type of player we need right now/ Had a few rough seasons but I think we have right players for him to be a success. His lack of pace wouldn't be an issue (was it for Jennings?) and I think Carswell in particular could learn from him...
