  1. Ross Forbes apparently close to a deal with Dunfermline...
  2. Way I look at it is that we have ready made replacements for Hutchinson. I'd be happy to go with Ramsden and Kerr/Cummins/Page/Saunders (when fit)... If we sell both, replacing Law would be the prioriity basically...
  3. To be honest with you, I don't really know what either player is worth. Nicky Law is by far the better player but is older and has less time left on his contract. As someone else has pointed out, current salary tends to impact on transfer value as well. I don't think either of them are worth £1m. Probably about £500k each but we aren't in a strong bargaining position, particularly with regards Law. Which is unfortunate as Hutchinson is the guy we could afford to lose more out of the two.
  4. I think before we rush to bring in another striker, McHugh must be given a chance. Don't have the stats to hand, but his goals to minutes on the park ratio must be pretty good...
  5. Who have Hearts got? And who can we get? EDIT I type too slowly on this phone..
  6. Agree, and as such we should be looking at what team would make the club most money. Liverpool out of those teams looks the pick...
  7. Wouldn't surprise me if we make a move for him. I still believe Murphy will leave so another wing option would be welcome. Would like another body in centre midfield though. As promising as Carswell and Hetherington look, I wouldn't want to put the pressure on them if Lasley or Law were to be injured...
  8. That is a pretty scary looking list of teams...
  9. I guarantee one thing. Whoever we get, right after the draw we fans will say "Oooft, we've no chance", And by kick off time in the first leg, we'll have come up with any number of reasons we have a shout. "Liverpool are bedding in a new team.." "Inter Milan's season hasn't started yet.." "Nancy/Odense/Steaua beat this lot and we ran them close.." Personally, I'd be looking to maximise the club's income from this game. That means Liverpool or Newcastle and a large travelling support, please...
  10. Aye, anyone who was surprised at the way the two games panned out is kidding themselves on. Unfortunately it was always going to be the case that we were going to be facing players with better technique than we have. With the players we have at our disposal we did the best we could have. For 45 minutes tonight, it looked like a professional away European performance. And last week at Fir Park, we at least managed to give them some uncomfortable moments. Any serious analysis of where we lost the tie has to go beyond "Daley's pish" and look at systemic problems in Scottish football. Why, whenever we play teams from a nation bigger than the Faroe Islands, do we find ourselves saying in advance that they;re "technically very good"? Or perhaps the question should be why aren't Scottish teams technically that good? Why can a Greek footballer control a football better than a Scottish footballer? I know one thing. The answer to that question is not "because Omar Daley's pish"...
  11. Putting a positive spin on it, nothing's changed. We needed three goals to go through anyway,,
  12. Hutchinson diving in again. If he's to become the player a lot of Well fans think he is, he needs to cut out the rash tackles...
  13. Aye, if this were the first leg, it would be an outstanding performance. Sadly don't really know how hard Panathinaikos are trying...
  14. I reckon there's scope for that actually being a 4-1-4-1 either Hateley or Ramsden in front of the back four...
  15. Again, I'd suggest you look at how the team plays. He scored a lot of headers for Falkirk, maybe they set up to optimise that? As for corners, only he and Hutchinson have real height and physical presence in our team. Kind of makes us easy to mark at corners, don't you think..?
  16. Does it enter your head that he may have his back to goal more often because of the way we play? That we use him to hold up the ball to allow others to join in the attacks? Just a thought, you understand...
  17. If anyone were crazy enough to bid £1.5m for Murphy and Higdon, I suspect they'd be handed parachutes on the way back from Greece and told to jump out over the appropriate stadium. That's how unlikely it is..
  18. Which website will be best to get a live stream tomorrow..?
  19. You obviously don't sit near me...
  20. Heard talk last night of a smoking zone being discussed as a possibility...
  21. A solid decade of league two experience, yes. As opposed to one to two years of experience in the U19s. Would I rather we had signed a midfielder? Possibly but then McCall would be accused of hampering the development of Hetherington or Carswell rather than Cummins, Murray and Page. I don't see why you are so set against Ramsden anyway. He didn't have a bad game tonight. And he won't play teams of the same quality of Panathinaikos every week...
  22. I read somewhere that McCall has been quoted as saying he sees Saunders as a right back. For me that means, Saunders is warming the bench this season and Ramsden is first choice centre back. So I tend to agree that he's not filling in an emergency. But I'm not that concerned about that. He'll do a job. And he's more experienced than all our centre backs put together. He's signed a one year deal. If this one year allows Cummins and Murray to develop (and with our squad size, they'll get games), his wages will be money well spent...
  23. I thought Humphrey had a decent game. Kept their left back on his toes and a good couple of efforts early on. Seemed to me that they'd done their homework on Murphy. When he tried his usual move of cutting in on his right foot, they were ready for it. Ojaama, I despair. Should have released Murphy when through on goal. I know he's young but he needs to learn to be more of a team player rather than taking on everyone. MOTM? For me, has to be Lasley. Simply immense..
  24. For me, simply beaten by a better team and there's no shame in that. The nature of the goals is a bit frustrating but realistically we can have no complaints. They took their chances, we didn't. On another night, we might have sneaked a result but it wasn't to be. The performance was good from most of the team. Thought we looked nervous at the start which was understandable. Defence looked a bit shaky, but you have to bear in mind it was the first time Ramsden and Hutchinson have played together. And frankly, they'll not face the quality or the movement they faced tonight in the SPL. If (and with a month of the transfer window left, it has to be if) we can keep the eleven that started tonight, we'll be fine this season. And Keith Lasley. I like the guy, but tonight he exceeded my expectations. He and Law combined well. A large part of our prospects this season rests on keeping these two available. So no silly red cards this season, Keith... Much to be optimistic about for the season, if not for next week..
  25. Were we to make seven figures somehow then I'm sure it'd free up money for a couple of free transfers on a grand a week, around £100k for this season total. Beyond that, don't see us spending much more than that.. All hypothetical of course, need to remind ourselves of that..
