I actually thought Dunne had a decent game. For me, our poorest players were Frear, Bowman and Moult. Hence Motherwell nil. Couple of times, Bowman in particular was slow to react. Just need to hope it was a bad day at the office. Having said that, even on a bad day at the office, we were only beaten by a wind assisted freak mistake... -

Or maybe we'll start playing well again and keep picking up points..? -
I'm wondering if he's not actually been that poor this season but maybe looked comparatively better last season due to the fact that the others around him weren't performing that well. Or do we debate as to whether he's better at centre half or in midfield..?

Scottish Premiership Game 10: Dundee (A) 25/10/17 19:45

According to McCann after the game, it was ruled out for a foul on one of our defenders. Given our 'goal' up there last season (and the fact I thought referees would be doing us no favours given the current hysteria), I'll take it... -

Midfield almost looks like an attempt to show that we're not simply a team of hard men although Bigirimana and Tanner have generally been our go to subs in midfield. Grimshaw would on paper look like a more natural replacement for Campbell. Also could be a 442 with Frear and Tanner wide. I hope not though... -

Every system has its weak points and strong points. For me, both Kipré and Dunne require the security of a third centre back at this stage in their careers. Our midfielders, although an upgrade on last season, don't have amongst them two that could compete in a league where almost everyone plays three centre midfielders. We don't have a striker suited to playing as a lone striker. 352 has its flaws, but for me it's the system that best suits our players. Whether that's down to Robinson signing players with it in mind or having seen the players in preseason and decided that this was the best way to use them, I don't know... -

Playing a back four means 442, surrendering midfield or 451 risking our lone striker getting isolated. 433 would in theory get around this but too often would simply turn into a 451. Tait is a far better wing back than full back so a back four looks a bad option for us... EDIT Also smells too much like a Mark McGhee 'change the way we play to suit the opposition' move. Play our game, if it's not good enough then so be it... -

Well aware that eyes on the ball isn't everything but if you watch it back he doesn't seem to 'throw an elbow'. His elbows are out and hit Cardoso in the face. Everyone who jumps for a header has their arms up. I can see why he'll get a ban. It frustrates though that it's selective punishment on it. Had we lost yesterday, I suspect it would barely have merited a mention... -

I expect Bowman to be banned for the final. Despite having seen him only have his eyes on the ball as he jumps, the media noise about his second half challenge seems to be growing. Even Rodgers making noises about he had sympathy for Caixinha over "challenges you could get away with in the 80s but not now". Fact that Pēna got away with a worse one recently will matter not a not... -
Indeed. Wonder if we might see McHugh at centre back on Wednesday with Grimshaw in midfield. Give Kipré recovery time following today if he wasn't 100%...

Kind of why I'm not posting much. Not really feeling coherent enough for reasoned analysis of the game... -
Went for Carson for many of the reasons others have given. Word for Dunne though. The guy that there was most debate over whether he should keep his place or not, he definitely had one of his better games. Fair play to him. Think both he and Kipré will make mistakes but both have potential...

Regards Hartley, I'd imagine an agreement could be put in place with Blackpool with the deal to be done when the transfer window opens in January. Kind of similar to when a player signs a precontract with less than six months to go...

At today's game, it was being discussed how Andy Rose has taken his time but has won over most of the support. Craig Tanner was also mentioned, as someone who in the first few games looked like he'd be a key player but who has struggled to stay in the team (despite good performances at Easter Road and against Partick). And Dunne's poor performance today didn't go unnoticed. Got me thinking, we've had 15 games now. Enough time to fairly judge the players? For me GOOD Hartley Carson Rose Kipré JURY'S OUT Bigirimana Tanner Fisher UNIMPRESSIVE Dunne Guys like Petravicius, Plummer and Newell haven't had enough time to judge them (although you could say the same about Fisher). Carson and Hartley have been really impressive. Kipré has shown potential but clearly has a mistake in him. Rose is now starting to show his worth. Bigirimana and Tanner have probably suffered from the form of Rose and Campbell. Both have shown good touches, have scored goals and provided assists but you wonder if they're not physical enough for the way we're playing at the moment. Dunne has had good moments and he's been unfairly treated by referees on occasion but has consistently looked like the weak link. Plummer clearly can't be showing much in training if he can't get a shot ahead of him. Thoughts?

Scottish Premiership Game 9: Accies (A) Saturday 14/10/17
MelvinBragg replied to CoF's topic in Club Chat
Pretty much everything I was going to say has been covered. Poor game on an awful pitch, a game we would have lost last season. We didn't play well but managed to get the win, sign of a team with a bit of character. What I would say is that were I a Partick Thistle fan, I wouldn't be too worried. As bad as Thistle were at Fir Park a fortnight ago, that Accies team was a different level of shite. I know they're missing players but that looks an abysmal team. We only won 2-1 but we missed a few good chances to put that game to bed... -

Expecting us to win today which is never a feeling that sits well with me. Gives me a bit of fear truth be told. Were we away yo Ross County or Dundee today I would expect us to lose with one eye on Hampden (must be in the back of the players' minds, no matter what they say). Fact that it's Accies should hopefully help focus them. Pretty sure the likes of Lasley, Hammell and Cadden have made it clear that this means a lot... -

International Youth & U20's Representation - Mfc Players
MelvinBragg replied to superward's topic in Club Chat
In what respect has he hung them out to dry. The Scotland U21s look like a team that has had to pick Hamilton's third choice keeper in goals and has players playing in the championship in Scotland, not England. The England U21s contains guys that have started games for Spurs, Liverpool and Everton this season. There should be a gulf in class... -

Not really bothered by the results of any of the Scottish national teams but ideally looking for Cadden and Campbell to have good games on Friday night for Scotland U21s against England. Would certainly attract the attention of scouts down South if they could compete well in that game... -

Campbell should be all the evidence any of the U20s need. This summer we signed Rose, Bigirmana, Tanner and Grimshaw. Campbell is still playing because he's worked hard in training and maintained his performances. Tanner is another that has fought his way back in. Under Robinson, it seems there are no favourites and if you work hard then you'll get a chance... -
Since the start of the season when he's had his own signings in. Played 14 Won 10 Drawn 1 Lost 3 Goals For 31 Goals Against 14 Aye, Robinson is doing okay so far...
