2018’19 Game 13: Aberdeen (H) Saturday 24th November 2018
daver replied to Yabba's Turd's topic in Club Chat
He tried to pull back the Aberdeen player (Mackay Stevens?) who was on a run. A bit surprising as the game was littered with wee pulls. -
Also, Scott Mullen has an interview on the BBC website with Curtis Main who is waiting until January to consider contract options. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46160094 Motherwell striker Curtis Main says he will assess his future in January, despite his Fir Park contract having just eight months left to run. Main signed from Portsmouth in January and has scored 12 goals in 36 games, including two in last season's Scottish Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen. The Englishman's deal expires at the end of the campaign, but he is relaxed about the situation. "I've got no reason why I wouldn't want to stay up here," he told BBC Scotland. "I'm really settled off the field and I'm really enjoying it so we'll probably go along until January and the situation will be assessed then. "We have to concentrate on getting things right on the pitch and the off-field stuff will be discussed at the relevant time." Main made his senior debut with Darlington at the age of 15, and had spells with Middlesbrough and Doncaster Rovers. His move to Motherwell at the start of the year brought him his first taste of football outside of England, and the striker insists he is loving life in Lanarkshire. "I'm enjoying the whole world of Scottish football," he said. "It's just a different challenge compared to the rest of my career. "Financially there's a huge gulf but it can make up for that in terms of exposure if you're performing well. It's a great platform to showcase what you're all about. That's definitely a plus. "We had quite a few special moments that year in the cup and to walk out on our way to stay over before the cup final, it was brilliant to see all the fans and how much it means to people."

Some do, some don't. Today's result is unacceptable but the league leaders lost 5-0 a few weeks ago at Celtic (with 11 men) and Rangers' home form is impressive this season with a few drubbings dished out.
-
The recent 442 formation seemed to leave us a bit exposed down the wings but neither St. Mirren or Dundee were good enough to exploit it. Rangers look as though they play with width so hopefully we've tightened up.

Going by last night, if that late goal is an o.g. then even better.
-
I went for Cadden for his best game in a long time but was also impressed with Grimshaw and Turnbull (although I actually thought he didn't play as well as he did on Wednesday).
-
Yeah, flag was up long before the ball got to Samson. Didn't see too much wrong with Bowman's challenge though.
-
Yes, they provided great vocal support throughout the game (as did the similar St. Mirren group) and long may that continue but we really could be doing without the street dancing antics I saw last night after the game
-
It had to be Turnbull for me but I noticed Alba gave it to Cadden who was certainly much more involved and scored a lovely goal.
-
Was that one of the bois who ran onto the park tonight? I don't know if it was the bois or another group but that was pretty disappointing stuff outside the ground tonight after the game. Are we really back to the Seig Heil Motherwell chants and trying to fight with opposing fans? I read somewhere else that St. Johnstone's group of young fans have been causing trouble recently- hopefully it's not part of a trend.
-
That's a bit harsh on him for the second goal although, similar to his time with us, he just doesn't seem to inspire confidence and we seemed to be under instruction to shoot whenever possible- I can't remember the last time we had so many shots on target.
-
Samson in goals for them. I really hope we're planning to fire in low shots and chase in for any rebounds.
-
What? Injured baws or just baws?

Fir Park improvements - New scoreboard,PA, East stand roof and more...

I've got no problem with the change to a different provider but I do wonder why - less administration for the club I suppose when an outside agency can take a small skim off the payments instead. The post on the official website mentions existing participants having to cancel their standing order. Strangely, the email I received as a current player of the lottery didn't mention this. I would have thought they would have automatically transferred current participants to the new system but perhaps the rules don't allow this. A lot of players could be lost this way. -
That's quite a highlights package! Love the adverts that pop up every so often.

He looked pretty grumpy but, then again, he always did.

Waiting for a train this morning at Preston and was surprised to see the Preston squad walking up the platform led by Alex Neil. I see they're playing at Villa tonight so I suppose the train but surprised as I thought football teams all travelled by coach. Didn't see Moult but wasn't particularly stalking!

Radio also says we're playing really well. "Different class" according to Derek Ferguson. -

Penalty from Main was saved. Radio saying justice was done as it was never a penalty. -
Couldn't bring myself to vote for McHugh because of the game-changing mistake so went for Aldred.
-
Not a former player but I caught the end of Match of the Day on Sunday and saw Bamba playing for Cardiff. Checking Wikipedia confirmed it was indeed Sol Bamba, formerly of Hibs. Wikipedia states that Dunfermline agreed a fee of £50k with Hibs and Motherwell but he went to Hibs. This was the first I'd heard of us ever being interested. Was this common knowledge?

He seemed to play well against Celtic but, listening to the radio, he was pretty anonymous against St. Mirren. We'll see what version turns up on Saturday.

I have to admit to being impressed with Naismith's performance and all round contribution against Albania. Hopefully he's a bit tired from it but I doubt it. The loss of Lafferty doesn't seem to have affected their results but it must have reduced their potency. Looking forward to my first league game of the season- should be very competitive.
