  1. Stevie Hammell is 6 matches away from having the SPL appearance record (348, currently held by Scott Severin with 347).

Jim Fowler is only one behind Stevie so it could be an exciting dash for the record! :D

Or an exciting dash for their first 50/50 on Saturday :whistling:

  2. Faddy himself has said that he has no desire to play for either side of the old firm, despite growing up as a Celtic fan. However, if he only has one offer on the table, and it's from Celtic, then he's likely going to sign for Celtic.

That said, just because Celtic have supposedly expressed an interest it doesn't automatically follow that a concrete offer will be made or that he'd accept it.

Would be galling to see him line up for Celtic against Motherwell, but unlike Lee McCulloch he would genuinely be playing for his boyhood team at least.

  3. McHugh and Smith would "run more"?

Sometimes the best thing you can do as a striker is stand still and you'll create space for yourself rather than simply running into a crowded box.

As for Humphrey, excellent point(s) about him being correct to hit the cross and put the onus on people making the correct runs, although perhaps taking a look at times. That said, whenever he does slow down to take a look he has half the support screaming at him for not taking his man on and hitting the byline, as by that point the full back has had a chance to get back at him.

  4. As usual, you are adopting contrary positions for arguments sake. One minute you are saying Higdon is useless. The next you are saying he scored 17 goals last season, but it didn't help the team.

If useless players score 17 a season, I'll take useless thanks.

No, he's shite because the players around him didn't contribute as many goals as he did - it's quite straightforward really.

See the number of headers he does win, and none of his teammates actually react to is unbelievable... short of time travelling to get on the end of his own lay offs, there's not much more he can do. To my mind, he doesn't jump for a lot of balls because he takes up a position where the ball is going to drop and holds his ground, waiting for the ball to reach him at chest height and he can control it.

As usual though, Motherwell fans make their mind up before a player has even kicked a ball and will not be shifted from that viewpoint regardless of performances. Folk round me the other night seemed genuinely annoyed that he had scored the second goal... cannot understand that.

  5. That is why he's in the squad. I'm glad we agree.

I do think Murphy should've been in the squad for the Nations Cup, but I don't pick the squad. smile.gif

Faddy's fitness is obviously in question, and whether or not he'll be the same player when fit again remains to be seen, but he is proven at international level and for me there is no doubt that a fit Faddy would have made a difference yesterday.

The other issue though, is that Levein doesn't seem to rate him or want to play any players with a bit of flair which will probably rule out Murphy as well.

  6. Who was putting in most of the deliveries? Yeah.

And Morrison for that matter. Not based on his performance yesterday right enough.

Humphrey shouldn't be, and isn't anywhere near the Scotland set up.

Alan Hutton was the man putting in most of the crosses yesterday.... not saying that Humphrey should be in the squad, but to compare him to a central midfield player is just mental!!

  7. Ok lets start talking about our strongest team for the Leeds match, i would go with, Law playing off the front two, it is clear that he has a wide range of passes, and is equally at home on either flank, i think he is the player we have desperatley missed last season, as we lacked that final killer pass. I still think there is a place for Craggs but why not give this formation a try against what is arguably one of the big guns down south, if it works against them surely it will work against most teams in the SPL. I am really excited about this match, ok i might not get the formation right but i like the players below and would like to see all of them start, not had much chance to form an opinion of Higdon yet but hopefully he is feeling his way into the season.

    RANDY

    Hateley - Huchinson - Saunders - Hammel

    Humphrey - Lasley - Jennoe -

    Law

    Higdon Murphy

Chris Humphrey in a central midfield three? As good as a man short in my opinion in there.....

That 11 could work just fine but by playing people in their strongest positions....

  8. I've read some crazy stuff on these boards over the years but some of the talk on this thread tops the lot.

    Us sign McFadden? Jeezo...

Wake up guys, he's long gone and he's no comin back

Well, the man himself has said he intends to end his career at Fir Park.

  9. What a shite statement.

Sheridan showed a few flashes, but was nothing special. The fact he is a Celtic player has fuck all to do with it.

Sorry, but in some cases his Celtic connection had everything to do with it - and the rear of the Cooper was very vocal about it at times.

For what it's worth, I wasn't particularly happy at having a Celtic player on loan - but not because it was Celtic, I just don't think players should be allowed to be on loan within the same division.

We could do a lot worse than Cillian Sheridan I'd say.

  10. Just finished watching the Vancouver Columbus game ( yes, I watch the mls, shoot me) and the comentator said in the build up to the game that a Scottish team is looking at Vancouver striker Eric hassli. Could it be us?

From what Ive seen he's very very good striker, but is a bit like jenno and takes silly red cards, but he could do a job for us.

1 red card in 2 seasons hardly suggests that Jenno is prone to red cards

  11. Jeez is that all a player has to do to be liked!?

Pity his control is terrible, his crossing not much better and his finishing is even worse.

Humphrey is not a good football player.

If anyone has an evidence in the shape of stats or video footage then I would love to see it.

As stated above, the guy is not perfect but the positives outweigh the negatives for me.

He has pace to burn, and showed in a spell around the Aberdeen game in March that he can use that to score goals.

As also mentioned, his pace means that teams often double up on him and leave space for others to exploit - something I don't think we utilise fully.

Crossing needs work, but I believe this is something that he is working on himself after training.

Also, Premiership clubs are scouting him - I virtually read the notes of one scout up at Tannadice - so he cannot be as bad as is being made out here.

  12. As has been said already Craigan MUST surely have had a say in who the opponents were for his testimonial. I mean what reason would the club have in not giving a guy who has served the club for fifteen seasons ,played over 350 times and been a great ambassador on and off the park a testimonial against Leeds on a Saturday afternoon in July. :whistling: And I would just like to add that I will be at Crags testimonial, but wont be at the Leeds friendly or any other friendlies ,because no matter the opponents friendlies are what they are and always have been ,crap.

The club have nothing to do with selecting the opposition, indeed I'm sure they cannot have anything to do with his testimonial for tax reasons...

  13. What Motherwell fan would have 'contacts' with Shrewsbury anyway? I smell shite.

Not necessarily - given your location it's conceivable that you would have contacts with Inverness or Ross County for example... not logical assumptions when you mention Motherwell fans and who they may have contacts with but conceivable no?

  14. The return of McFadden was a big draw, but this is the return of McCormack!! (whom in all seriousness I hope doesn't get any pelters)

Gradel, Becchio and Snodgrass well worth watching also.

Ross says his time at Motherwell under McGhee was the "favourite time of his career" or such like. His fiancee also reckons he loved his time at Motherwell....

Basically, he speaks very fondly of his time at Fir Park so I see no reason for him to get pelters....

  15. I overheard a couple of the youth coaches chatting at the Kilmarnock game about Mark Reynolds, one of whom obviously knew Mark's father very well.

Anyway, the chat was that Aberdeen and Hibs had been in contact with Mark's agent regarding a move for him, but that he was not keen to move back up the road quite so soon after leaving.

Never say never and all that, but contact looks to have been made and rebuked.

  16. So according to Sutton we made pretty much fuck all effort to keep him? Sounds just like us.

He was enjoying his time here, asked for a deal at the start of the season, at christmas and there was nothing concrete on the table, even the week before cup final :wallbash:

I certainly don't hold any grudges, as much as I don't think it's the best move he could've had. I appreciate the hard work and effort he's put in whilst here, as well as his professionalism both on and off the park.

Best of luck for the future Sutty, but I hope yer team gets pumped on a regular basis

Not according to Stuart McCall who said that we had made him an offer prior to the semi-final in his post match interview at Tynecastle.

    So, someone's lying.

Agree with the rest, cannot grudge him his move, it's just disappointing that he's moved to a rival team and had a swipe at the club on departing.
