  1. Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor both came through their respective youth systems into the first team... although McGregor had a few loan spells.

It is quite rare to see a keeper come in and make a debut at a young age and keep his place in the top league - they usually need to establish themselves at a lower league club.

I think Iker Cassillas and Victor Valdes both came through the youth system as well at their clubs.

  2. Why take the italian name? What has that got to do with Motherwell?

    No idea...

I decided after about 5 seconds thought though that it didn't really impact my day either negatively or positively so there was no real point in worrying about it....

  3. I'm really not sure what the problem is here... Corteo is Italian for procession so there is a logical link to the name.

Not really my cup of tea, but then the simple solution is to just not get involved. Nobody is forcing anyone to join and nobody will get a hard time if they avoid it.

Good luck to those organising it...

  4. Absolutely not. Saw a lot of praise for him after the signings/contract renewals this summer. Two way street isn't it?

'Flow can't force an employee to knock back an offer from elsewhere...

From what I've heard it wasn't an easy decision for JP though. He's knocked back a few offers in the past...

  5. I suspect that travelling distance might have played a part in his decision. He stays just round the corner from my mum and dad and while it's not a huge journey, a commute to Leith is a bit shorter... He's not as young as he was!

  6. Murray's been let go I'm sure.

He played a bounce game for us last week, so that situation isn't as cut and dried as it appears...

Also noticed that Ross Stewart now has a squad number (at least he was in the programme on Saturday). I'm sure someone mentioned that clubs were required to continue to provide training facilities for youth players - never heard of that myself but that's not to suggest it's wrong - so it could be as simple as that in Murray's case as he wasn't quoted in the squad.

  7. Heard on twitter we have someone called Jeff Callebaut on trial. Barely anything on him online.

A Twitter search turns up a young Belgian player of that name, going by his bio he's an Under 17 player (or was recently) so maybe one for the youths...

  8. The 'last Saturday match of the season' confused me.

Didn't realise the Inverness match was a Wednesday. Must be the first time our (home) season has ended mid week.

Of course St. Johnstone have battered us twice this season already and are in a good run of form but we have a pretty good record at Fir Park against St. Johnstone,it's P8 W6 D1 L1 since Jim Gannon got his jotters.

Last one I can remember was Celtic midweek c2004 - Keith Lasley's last (home) game first time around and Ross Wallace allegedly kicked by a fan during a pitch invasion...

    3-1 Motherwell on Saturday.

  9. Cant quite figure out if yoir taking the piss here or not...but the last goal sneaked in between him and the post....so nothing to do with the WHOLE GOAL being there to aim at....

The ball ended up in the back of the net, so that's the bottom line, but for me there was a huge element of luck involved in that goal.

Nielsen has his weight on his left side as the ball is crossing the area, Craig Reid (understandably) tried to intercept the cross and ended up putting it right onto Stephen Thompson's boot who then took advantage of Nielsen being wrong footed. 9 times out of 10 Reid's interception goes out for a corner, but on this occasion we end up conceding.

Factor in that they had conceded a penalty that never was and they were very unlucky to lose that game...

  10. Spoke to Lasley at his race night after the game, he had no complaints about the challenge. Reckoned it was a strong challenge but it was more down to his studs getting caught in the turf.

Kallum Higginbotham certainly seemed to noise up a few of the players though, splits opinion I think it's fair to say!

  11. Stupid rule, but it should have been applied. You can be sure that if he hadn't already been booked then he would have seen yellow for it....

Interesting that Peter Pawlett actually did enter the crowd at Tynecastle the following week and wasn't cautioned.

  12. Wonder if McInnes will be called up by SFA for bringing the game into disrepute for criticising the refereee about Hutchinson's tackle?

His opinion on Russel Anderson's challenge on Jack Leitch would be interesting... Aside from the blatant handball his boot was very high as he flew into our boy.

  13. I'd wager that any police or steward intervention would be a lot quicker tomorrow if there is any hint of vandalism going on...

Saw mention earlier that a heavy defeat tomorrow could spark a negative run - our last defeat was heavy against Celtic and sparked a run of 6 straight wins so I'm not sure I'd agree with that.

A point would be a massive result tomorrow I think.

  14. And my comment was directed at ScottW not you daver

    WTF?

I was stating a fact, it wasn't a criticism.... The way that the options are set up, you cannot deny that the results may be slightly skewed. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter does it? It's a wee bit of fun on a messageboard, and I was merely pointing out a potential wee anomole in the results.

Complaints to the IP Board? Slight overreaction there I think!

  15. I thought the instructions were pretty clear.

Sorry about Ruby, I don't think his inclusion in the defenders would have made much difference though.

The instructions are clear, but if for instance you think 3 players from one section of the vote are the worst you are unable to vote for those 3 as it needs a vote to be present in both sections.

The voting is going to be somewhat skewed I think - I was certainly unable to pick the three I wanted because they were all in one part, and I had to then pick someone I didn't think was all that bad to get the votes counted.
