  1. I never made it to the game, due to one of the kids playing football on Saturday afternoon, and I never seen the match either despite taking the prior steps to record BBC Albas coverage...I wasn't up for watching the full 90mins after I heard we were down 4-1 and to 8 men.

However, there was a neutral observer there that I know, who was watching us and St Johnstone on behalf of another Premier League team, who suggested that 'Motherwell were by far the dominant side, until St Johnstone scored a goal from nowhere' and we 'then imploded'...he said, we looked big, strong, well-drilled and confident. He made mention of the refeering decisions, but didn't really expand on it at the time.

Having now seen the 3 red cards (still not seen the goals), I reckon the only one we have any chance of over-turning is the last one, which was a clear dive. McHugh has made it easy for the referee to send him off, while Carson has had an absolute brain-fart. To the naked eye, he looks a mile outside the box, when its slowed down it isnt as bad as that though definitely outside, but at full speed it looks like he is way out...the easy thing for him to do there is clear his lines, but he has misjudged either the speed of the ball, or the player closing him down and left himself out on a limb.

As for, is it a red or a yellow? For me, its as clear a 'denial of a goalscoring opportunity' as you'll ever see, hes grabbed hold of a ball that a striker is attempting to get on the end of, to kick into an empty net.

  2. There is absolutely no point in giving your opinion on players you have never seen...unfortunately (or fortunately I suppose), I'm a child of the 80s and never went near Fir Park until 1986ish, so there is no point in me giving my opinion on Wille Pettigrew, let alone Willie MacFadyen, as I have nothing to go on other than heresay, or the odd clip. Football has changed dramatically over the past 100 years, and its too easy to say that players of yesteryear, were better than the current lot purely on what their goalscoring record is etc...football, is much more tactical now, less clear cut chances, players dont hang about for 10 years like they did in the past, players nowadays are without exception, full-time employees of the Club and from that I'd assume that they are fitter.

The only fair way to give a reply to the request, is by basing your answers on the players that you've seen in the flesh...we all know, who the football clubs legends are from days gone past, and this is nothing more than a bit of fun and that Tommy Coyne will get more votes than Wilson Humphries is just one of those things really.

Now, a top100 of utter dross, would be much easier to be fair...

  3. Campbell, McLean, McMillan and Cadden have all been used to some extent so far this season, while others such as Livingstone, Turnbull and Hastie were involved at the tail end of last season...how many home-grown youngsters is Scott Leitch et al wanting in the 1st team squad at any particular time?

Seems to me that those within the youth set-up that are unhappy, need to bide their time a wee bit before complaining...or they run the risk of behaving like the knicker-wetters within our support.

  4. It was actually League 1 level he was playing at last season, 10 goals in 30 starts in all comps for a struggling Oldham side.

Take out Louis Moult and I genuinely don't think the other half a dozen or so strikers we've signed since Erwin left have actually managed that between them.

Shows how much interest I take in English fitba...apologies, but enhances my point.

For talking sake, if we were looking at signing Kevin Van Veen (who I've never heard of to be fair) from Scunthorpe on a free signing we'd all be up for that I'd imagine...he scored a similar amount of goals to Lee Erwin last season.

  5. There's also the whole attitude change that some fans adopt towards a player whenever they have left us to the point that history is almost re-written in some cases as positive contributions are played down and any deficiencies highlighted.

I dread to think of the meltdown that awaits if and when Thomas and Erwin combine to put us to the sword!

Yip, its completely bizarre behaviour at times

  6. When we generally take our strikers from the Conference, I reckon I'd be delighted at someone with a semi-decent ratio at League2 level coming in to be honest.

As for hitting double-figures up here, I'm not convinced he will either, but I dont think anyone has every claimed that he was a lethal goalscorer

  7. I'd imagine that if we were talking about a striker who scored 8 goals in English League 2, last season at a stinking team, that had also been on loan from Leeds United, we'd probably all be fairly happy if we were taking him on.

But because, we know him and he wasnt prolific in his last spell with us, despite being a young lad flung into the whole negativity of that season we are happy to write him off as 'shite' or a 'one-trick pony'. He'll never be prolific but he is a good football player.

He'll do a job for Killie, without a shadow of a doubt

  8. Lee Erwin has agreed his release from Leeds, apparently looking at offers from both Scotland & England. I know a lot of folk have voiced before that they thought he was a bit overated at the time. Personally I would try and get him back, don't think he was as ordinary as some have made out. Would give us another option up front which is desperately needed at the moment. I would presume he is a far more mature player since his move down south too.

He was at the Bellshill v Rossvale match last night, maybe hes signing for the mighty Athletic...

...in fairness, I'd take him back in a heartbeat, a far better player than he was given credit for on here in my opinion. Although, I'd prefer he was a replacement for Blyth rather than Moult.

  9.

You wouldn't have been saying that if you had been there last night - a f....n centre half that thinks he's half Pirlo and half Alonso, sadly he isn't close to being either.

    I don't think we've ever had a centre-back that hasnt made mistakes.

I think part of the problem with McManus and how he is viewed by a portion of the support is where he has been in his career prior to coming to us. He played for Celtic, winning leagues and playing in Europe regularly, captained Scotland, played at a decent level down south...but for me, that type of exposure was probably always beyond him...he was playing above his level I reckon for most of his career, but for us he is more than adequate I'd have thought.

  10. I think Robinson and Craigan have been clear in the press that if he moves on we have options for a replacement lined up.

I wonder how long that 'option' sits about waiting on Motherwell, who are in turn waiting on any Club meeting our valuation? The last thing we want is for Moult to leave in the last day or two of the window a la Johnson and be left either high and dry, or for us to panic buy someone else.

The only way I could see an 'option' just hanging about waiting, is if its a loan deal.

  11. I'd love to say good luck to McDonald but I'm afraid you're like turncoat MCGee. You can fuck off you badge kissing wee cunt. Take you're attitude and fuck off. No longer s well player so can say what I feel and you're bad for the dressing room so fuck off.

There that feels better. Next on the list the over rated washes thief McMannus. He's for the same whe he goes. That's if he doesn't go to the press first.

    Haha...fuck sake.

McDonalds time with Motherwell came to a natural conclusion this year as far as I'm concerned, clearly his performances were on the wain, and he obviously didnt see eye-to-eye with the gaffer. Great player for us in 2 spells, decent goalscoring record, and I hate to think where we'd have ended up if he wasnt in our squad for the past 3 seasons.

Yes, he clearly has his down sides, the very public moaning on the pitch and fannying about each season over contract renewals, as well as the rumours of him being an unsettling influence in the dressing room, and I'm not at all upset that hes gone BUT, I'll not be booing him if/when he returns to face us at Fir Park.

As for McManus, hes harshly treated by the Motherwell fans in my book...if he is injury-free and can get his fitness up, I reckon he has another year in him.

McGhee is a different kettle of fish entirely

  12. Frear and Cadden got the shitty end of the stick towards the tail end of last season, playing the wing-back role. In my opinion, Cadden is much more suited to that role than Frear, who for me is an out-and-out winger...luckily for Cadden though, Tait seems to love playing that role so he takes over the right hand side if we are certain to play a back3. On the other side (and anyone who witnessed Dunne playing wing-back at Gateshead will surely testify), we have no one in the squad capable of playing that position adequately.

I have absolutely nothing against playing a back3 if the personnel is suited to it by the way. Heneghan is another one how I worry about playing as part of a back 3, while I dont have the same fears when he has a full-back alongside him.

  13.

    Jinxed it now

Even if the boy defies the odds and becomes a success, I'd still say that we never lost out. We had next to no interest in playing him, whether that was because he wasn't good enough, couldn't fit our system or because he is (apparently) a bawbag. If he ends up a success at Killie, it doesnt necessarily equate that we mis-treated or mis-judged him in anyway

  14. I think thats an absolute non-starter as well...from what I've heard his Mrs wants back down the road, not up the road to the back of beyond. His stock is high just now, and if he's going to leave us he'll be looking to maximise his wages, he wont do that going to Aberdeen. Also, heard a rumour last week that his injury is worse than they thought and he might need another operation.

  15. Bowman is doing well just now because the vast majority of Scottish footballers have been boozing and eating shite on their time off and he has obviously being doing the 'herbal life' cycle.

I'm going to be in your ear praising the big fella' all season :nyam:

  16. Given that the close season is only 6 weeks long now and our best weather tends to be April/May, Im not sure the summer football discussion is even relevant anymore. We are going to have to play in the winter months anyway. Its just a matter of when you want to stop/start.

Aye, pretty much this. I don't think its beyond the wit of man, to organise the season in such a way that we can give ourselves as much opportunity as possible to make less of an arse of ourselves in European competition.
