he has to prove he deserves those wages. he was murder in his rare appearances for everton last season and has barely kicked a ball in two years. at the moment no team is going offer him any thing like what he has been earning since he left fir park.

if they had offered him a contract do you think he would have signed it? if celtic offer him better terms than he can get elsewhere he'd sign for them in a second. the main obstacle to him not signing for celtic is the fact they are unlikely to want him. the guy's stock has sunk dramatically over the last couple of years to the point where him coming back to fir park for a spell isn't that ridiculous any more. i doubt he would get an epl club after spending almost two full seasons on the sidelines and the last time he was in the championship he was extremely average in brum side that won promotion. he was never a great athlete and there are probably some doubts about whether he can recover fully from that injury. coming back here for 12 months to attempt to prove he can still cut it on the park before moving south isn't that bad an option compared to signing for forest or burnley and slogging it out in the championship.

how do you know this?

looking back for me that win - and the win up at aberdeen a few weeks later - papered over the cracks at the time and encouraged mccall to stick with tactics that weren't working for another couple of months. i doubt we'll ever score five goals from five shots on target over two away games ever again. novikovas' goal for hearts and our positive tactics against st johnstone was the big day for us. the fire was handy as well.

we've got another 30 of those performances to look forward to next season.

we've seen carswell because he's got the tools to play in the spl. if you had paid attention to my posts after the morton friendly in july you would have known bradley, mckinnon, halsman, lawless, smith and howarth were never good enough. anyone with their ear to the ground would have heard the nasty rumour about our youth development people being disciplined due to the amount of no hopers getting senior contracts.

the subs on today should have been players that we are hoping will contribute in the future. mchugh, page, carswell, josh watt, francis could all have benefited from playing today. i've no idea why forbes came on.

russia finishes today. ideally spartak and cska will drop points and dinamo will leap frog them to get the place. that would mean that russia would be off the agenda.

remember we are cutting our budget. if we are offering jenno, hammell, las and clancy new deals savings have to be made somewhere to allow us to do that.

you'll just have to settle for an afternoon of on street grooming.

there will be boys moving up from u17 and probably some fresh faces coming in to fill out the u20 squad. i think pollock and lawless were just too wee. there's not many 5ft 2 players out there.

the cause and the effect of the united hype in one article of course they did jim...

i think they dropped their appeal over being chucked out this years tourny. big bert kaissie has them in and that's good enough for me.

the ict board covered the losses of their season in the first. if they didn't go straight back up their budget would have been slashed.

as it stands bayern win - cska, braga, kiev, fenerbahce, brugges chelsea win - kiev, fenerbahce, brugges, PAOK

carswell is much more suited to the physical demands of the spl than forbes. he is still an u19 player at the moment and i think he has shown plenty to suggest he can contribute going forward. mchugh has a year to go. i'm sure i saw an interview where page said he contracted for next season after the aberdeen game but i can't find it now.

if brugges win away to genk tonight they get the belgian place. there is also another round of fixtures in the greek mini group. AEK vs atromitos and PAOK vs panathinaikos.

let's hope we see one last fist pump. apart from the malpas debacle it has been 10 great seasons with finals, third place finishes and european football. even though he has missed the run in he started the first 23 league games this season so he had a role in us making the champions league. legend!

in 2001/02 st johnstone were relegated with a squad that they could afford. we stayed up with a squad of players who's contracts we decided not to honour. not much integrity there.

dundee united, rangers and hearts have been to greece without any problems and rangers have been to turkey 3 times that i can remember without issues.

the two issues are clearly related. my only interest in rangers' situation is how it effects mfc.

even with rangers in the spl we are cutting our budget. without them we would have to cut it even further which would mean we are unlikely to be able to resign the out of contract players and may have problems paying the players we have contracted for next season.

i think he means if you want the club to vote to throw rangers out the league you should also be hoping that we tell the out of contract players that we can't afford to keep them.

what does that have to with motherwell. we signed players to contracts we later decided we couldn't afford. where was the sporting integrity in that?

i don't think there will be much difference in the prices of flights between greece and portugal.
