on saturday hammell had been solid defensively and jim o'brien was running riot down the left. then hammell goes off and we remain solid at the back but o'brien falls out the game as reynolds doesn't particularly want the ball when we're playing it out of defence and isn't very effective when he gets it. reynolds' are his athleticism and intelligence, not his skill with his feet. as someone else said if we want to shut up shop against a particular winger then shove reynolds to left back. but for our average game we need some creativity from at least one fullback and hammell is far more likely to provide it than saunders, hateley or reynolds.

mcgarry and lasley got sent out to do shuttles after we we had used all three subs. did the team benefit from it? No. did mcgarry and lasley benefit from it? no. what else was it but public humiliation?

i wouldn't say that at all but the game was there to be won today and we managed not to. i'm not a sutton fan but he was great last week and he got dropped for a boy who today gave us nothing. reynolds was dire in central midfield at perth and was worse today. surely after perth anyone would realise he can't play that role. i think that gannon made mistakes today and through in perth but overall it's been a good start to the season and i'm quite chuffed. however what he did to lasley and mcgarrry today was well out of order. both those guys have done us a turn and to intentionally embarass them is out of order.

i was at the game today and our fans were a disgrace. absolute fucking disgrace. mark mcghee's an arsehole, yes. a c**t, no one could argue with that. a bastard, fair enough. a prick, no bother. the chants today were well out of order. phil o'donnell on his his first game back at fir park got horrible abuse but this was 100x worse.

age must have something to with it or every team would have 16 and 17 year old in them. it's very much the exception rather than the rule. mcghee saw enough in slane to take him to austria last season, play him in the friendlies and give him his debut against accies. hutchison also got his debut against accies, he didn't get a look in before but our defence was rock solid after xmas. i started a thread on the final day of the season slating mcghee for not giving youth a chance that day and got ripped for it off certain posters on here. mcghee jumped ship as he knew all the senior players were leaving and he wasn't up to putting in the hard work of rebuilding the team. he has a few arsehole qualities about him but it wasn't long ago people were singing his name, his time at motherwell was overwhemingly positive but some people can't seem to accept that which is basically bitter and pathetic.

we got a bit of money from porter who he brought in for free and the sales of clarkson and quinn who came on loads playing under him. he's clearly due some credit for that. he's admitted he's underestimated forbes but to be honest i doubt anyone expected him to do as well as he has. it's up to ross to maintain those standards now and prove he is as good as we think he is. it's just stupid to say he ignored slane and hutchison, they're 17 and 18 and both got shots in the first team last season. even faddy wasn't playing week in week out at 17.

mcghee fucked around with his tactics to combat individuals quite a few times. home to celtic in march 08 and home to st mirren before the split this year. also don't actually think there was much done to combat kyle, the main change from the second half in perth to the killie game was sticking hateley in midfield to make us a bit more solid.

there's four buses going and most of the friends fare tickets seem to be gone (obviously not all to 'well fans) plus there are quite a few 'well fans based up north. i can see us having 300-400 there.

what school did you go to? the graph shows that wages as a percentage of turnover was around 75%. that's still higher than the recommended level but given we turned a profit and that the increased wages that season also contributed to the extra income from the nancy game and the transfer fees of porter, quinn and clarky and it has to be seen as shrewd investment.

for me the jury is still out on gannon. i was impressed today, hateley in midfield is a great choice. 2 or 3 more correct choices and i'll be a believer.
