  1. i don't know about that, our away support was quite impressive by our usual standards last year. the only games we dipped under around 400 odd were the 2nd and 3rd games at parkhead, the 2nd game at pittodrie (when it was snowing) and the monday night ICT cup game. there were a lot of good turnouts away from home last season.
  2. agreed. brown's always been a wee bit economical with the truth when it suits him (and that's without mentioning the poison pen). this could all be a ploy to get boyle to loosen the purse strings or a smokescreen to cover the fact that he hasn't identified anyone worth signing yet.
  3. as i sad in another thread brown just seems to say whatever suits him that day. "the running costs of the club put it in deficit every year": no it doesn't craigie, we made a loss over one year (june 2008-may2009) due to the cost of the pitch repairs, the increased wages of mcghee and leitch, the increased wage bill with big earners like porter, hughes, malcolm and klimpl, a bottom six finish, repaying some of boyle's loan and the missed setanta payment. every other season since we came out of admin we've made a profit and over the past five years accounts are out for we've made a profit of £120k. as i've said before if the last published accounting period was over 13 months rather than 12 we'd have showed a profit due to the departures of clarkson, quinn, mchgee and leitch. the club themselves said that the next accounts would show a large profit which would neutralise the previous loss. it's clear however that we've not much money just now. is it as bad as brown makes out? if it is then why have we signed the cypriot, a third keeper and kept on young boys who are extremeley unlikely to feature. surely 4 or 5 small wages combined could have got us a player who could make an impact in the spl.
  4. i've bought more than one ticket for each home game and haven't been asked who they're for other than me so the idea of allocating tickets according to who attended the previous euro home games isn't going to work (if we get through).
  5. it must be a big effort to remember every brand that sponsors a team and go out your way to avoid them. well done. as other people have said of course it works or companies wouldn't be spending billions on it every year worldwide. some people obviously haven't watched mad men.
  6. why? i've got no idea how many tops we sell every year but i can't imagine it's more than 4000 and most of them will be in the motherwell area which isn't giving you much exposure. a picture in the paper or a game on tv will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people, surely that's what the sponsors want? i doubt jaxx were trying to increase their brand awareness in PE classes in dalziel and braidy or up at the fives courts at wishae sports centre. how many punters are wearing a motherwell top out and about on average day? not many.
  7. if he is coming to the game on thursday the club should get him out to do the half time draw. esteban deserves to meet his adoring public.
  8. o'brien scored 4 goals in 68 appearances. humphrey has scored 2 in his whole career. i'd start humphrey on thursday but he's got a lot to improve before he becomes a vital plater for us. i'd never start him and forbes in the same team though.
  9. how much of a gutter is that we're scraping about down the back of the couch for change this summer but not that long ago we pissed 300k up against bob malcolm.
  10. archdeacon was unfortunate that murphy and mchugh are ahead of him and are the best young scottish strikers in their age group. i felt bad for him the night at hibs when he looked like he was going to get a chance and mchugh got on ahead of him, it was pretty clear then that it wasn't going to work out for him.
  11. it costs about 120 quid just to get a visa for russia so sack that. i'd love to go to moscow but not for the fitba.
  12. first post and this guy is right into the spirit of things on steelmenonline. perhaps a norwegian relative of mjw?
  13. is sparra about to winch that old dear?!
  14. i'd like to go somewhere with mental fans so aek athens, either istanbul team, palermo, napoli or feyenoord would be quality. clubs we might have a (slim) chance against. dnipro, maccabi haifa, brugges, austria wien, odense, sofia, aston villa
  15. just watched the highlights tonight, saw my 14 year old self sitting down the front row of the east stand. garcin's free kick was as good as i remember it but tommy coyne m'lord's finish in the second half was absolute class. i made the mistake of watching the 2-2 each h*n cup tie after it, woods passing the ball to durie still makes me want to greet.
  16. i think he could be our most important player this season, if he can take the next step and become a regular goal scorer we could be on for a good season. it looks like brown has confidence in him and will play him through the middle which is exactly what he needs.
  17. the hibs game is cutting out to live coverage of some big slovenian bird doing the javellin
  18. how are you watching it mate?
  19. i think they used to cover a few of our games when mcgarry and paterson were here.
  20. you better watch out the norwegians don't sign you as a back up striker. have a good one
  21. he also said a few weeks ago that we had a budget for a striker. i wouldn't read too much into what paw broon says to the press.

the league cup works when your team does well in it, when we got to the final we thought it was the dogs baws. even last season it saw our biggest travelling support by a mile so it can't be that bad. with even championship teams putting out weakened sides in the FA cup these days there's no chance of getting any interest in a revamped texaco.

i think there's some logic behind our decision to pay the 5%. directly selling tickets to old firm fans would incur big admin costs and probably be beyond the capabilities of our ticket office. i'm sure we just bumped up the price and passed it on the old firm fans anyway. it may well be but we don't have to cut prices, attendances in scotland are relatively excellent.
