Post Match Traffic Arrangements

I've emailed the Trust about the post Match traffic arrangements and asked them to take up the issue with the Police. We all know about the car ban in the surrounding streets for 15 minutes after games and like it or lump it thats the way its going to be (I happen to lump it).

However, what is happening is that the car parks are emptying later on to Knowetop Avenue. You might reasonably think given the above that the Police would keep an officer on points duty at the its junction with Windmillhill Street until after the traffic has cleared - but NO. Last night, yet again, there was a long line of traffic stretching along down Dalzell Drive, Knowetop Avenue and issuing from the car parks held up at Taggarts garage. Given the volume of traffic in both directions on Windmillhill Street cars simply couldn't get out.

Moral of the story...if you must tinker with something make sure you get it right and don't make things worse.

They probably couldn't have managed that and had their two officers every fifty yards between the ground and the train station plus the ten or so they had in the station. What exactly were they expecting for Motherwell v St Mirren?

Got to say I rarely take the car but when I do parking in the Civic and the surrounding streets always seems to get me away pretty quick and even moreso since the implementation of the closures round the ground.

I can remember when they used to have the Police directing the traffic at each of the roundabouts on Airbles, that has long since stopped.

There was one game earlier this season I spent an hour just waiting to get onto Airbles, it was a week night game against Rangers I think.

I appreciate most of the games we don't need this as I am normally back in Cumbernauld within 30 minutes or so. Some games d require it especially if a lot of the traffic is going to head to the M74.

We'll certainly pass that on, Dave. I'm pretty terrible with street names so can't really think where you're talking about, but we've had a lot of positive feedback since the road closures were implemented. Obviously, it's a difficult job to figure it out perfectly first time. I'm sure if this is deemed to be a problem, it'll be easily fixed.

I don't mean it like that, just making the observation that they seem to be around more at the cup games than normal games, or maybe they're just hidden away at a standard league game.

Probably just pick and choose their games these days and with Scottish Cup days being a bit more special.

Much appreciated Fraz. Residents were also caught up in the congestion. We've paid for our parking tickets and so intend to use them. If folk like us are put off parking in the club's car parks then the club stands to lose several thousands of pounds annually. A loss it can't afford. An officer on duty for an extra 10/15 minutes is all it would take.

Did the police have "specific intelligence" (oxymoron I know!) of something kicking off after yesterday's match?

The police numbers and the constant reminders that the station's CCTV was linked to transport police did seem a bit of an overreaction to a visit by Renfrewshire residents.

The queue of traffic trying to get out the street you talk of was a joke yesterday. Polis everywhere and not one single one assigned to contolling the flow of traffic. Yet there were horses, 4x4's, the lot, to escort a bunch of 15 year old wanna be hard men who looked absolutely pathetic down to the train station.

The polis aren't interested in doing anything remotely useful to help the average football fan, but if they can justify their over the top presence, they can prove there is a hooligan problem to help secure their inflated budget for the following year. Arseholes the lot of them.

Moral of the story.............Don't park in that area !!!!!! :wallbash:

Given the amount of ignorant arseholes who park in there failing to let folk out, I'm seriously considering parking elsewhere. Its an absolute joke how many drivers aren't a little courteous. Its only a matter of time before theres a crash in that car park due to the amount of people having to force their way in.

the very odd occasion that I drive to the football (like my beer too much!) i usually park in the Civic Centre car park and jump up past the health centre onto windmillhill road. Never usually have much of a problem getting out onto the road.

What was the script with the casuals on Saturday, any problems?

Without going in to much detail - too many prying eyes/snitches/those who would have their hands stright on the dummy at the thought of outing these 'non' football fans.*

Arriving late in Motherwell (suggesting they didn't fancy re-enacting the football factory) unescorted (I wonder why) made their way through the town centre. Appear on Brandon Street attempting to conquer all comers and instead have a skirmish with those left in the pub checking coupons and not actually at the match. Didn't exactly cover themselves in glory, but, if that's the only result they're ever likely to get...

I was told by a friend who was in the Transport Police station on another matter, that there was a fair bit of bother and those in the station were having a good moan about it. I didn't expect it at a St. Mirren game and, by the sounds of things, neither did the police. That could well explain why there was only one policewoman at the Airbles Rd./Adele St. roundabout, no traffic control and it took forever to get onto Airbles Rd.
