On one hand, it was an obviously memorable playoff that we all enjoyed. Especially the first leg.

On the other hand, it's still a mystery how a team with so many good players finished in the playoff spot.

I agree Baraclough played a blinder on and off the park. Handled the media perfectly and got the players into exactly the right mindset.

Also loved the fact that Gary McAllister was the co-commentator on the broadcasts.

The feeling when Ainsworth scored to make it 3-0 at the start of the second half was one of the best I’ve ever had following Motherwell. It was actually hard to believe it was really happening at the time seeing us 3-0 up at Ibrox, limbs going everywhere in our end while the rest of the ground sat in utter disbelief and despair.

I still thought we’d somehow blow it though and that didn’t change until we went 2-0 up at Fir Park on the Sunday.

What a game probably in top three best games I've been to in my 50 years following The Well. What an atmosphere first time we sang twist and shout I think and everyone got it perfect. Total inspiration and bit of a surprise result . I wasn't expecting that traveling in on the M74 along side the entitled blue and white hoards if I'm honest. But Ainsworth goal...... Oh my goodness.

Still smile when I see it.

I know it’s been said many times but I’ll say it again. Having an ‘outsider’ in charge like Baraclough who didn’t pander to Rangers and allow us to play the name rather than the team in front of us was a major reason why we won that playoff. His predecessor and opposite number in those games would have had us beaten before the team bus left Fir Park and the fact that it was McCall in their dugout made that all the more satisfying given the number of big games we had bottled under his watch.

I was watching the first leg on the telly and at half time the commentators sole topic of discussion was what would happen when The R*****s came out and got an early second half goal. The Ainsworth goal put paid to the 'when Rangers get back to the top flight' chat, at least until papers needed sold up until the 2nd leg.  They went back to 'an early goal for Rangers and Motherwell will crumble' chat.

I've never been so nervous before a football match in all my life as I was that night.

A bottle of bucky settled me down...

...what an evening that was at Ibrox, and as someone else above said 'how were we in that position' with players like Johnson, Ainsworth, Pearson, McManus and McDonald.

When do we see 'episode 2'?

Likewise and me underestimating the pre-match traffic didn’t help me either. No game has got the juices flowing quite the same since but the sound of Ainsworth’s strike hitting the net will live with me forever.

As well as Baraclough, Burrows also played a blinder. He set the tone by standing firm on the ticket allocation.

Very much my feelings. I just could not believe what I was watching. I still find it hard to believe how comfortable it was in the end.

The Ainsworth goal is a thing of beauty and Baraclough is forgiven everything in my eyes for giving us that fantastic double header result.

On one hand, it should have been easy as we had reasonable form coming into the game and we were playing the team that finished in 3rd place, 24 points behind Hearts.

On other hand, it was us, at Ibrox...

His finest moment as our Chief. He genuinely fought our corner and stood our ground where many of his predecessors would have folded and given Rangers whatever allocation they wanted.

A great night in Motherwell's recent history

A great 3 days in Motherwell's recent history

The Marvin Johnson goal assisted by Cammy Bell at Fir Park must be the loudest cheer I have ever heard at Fir Park. It really felt like the closest thing to winning a cup that day .  A poor poor season finished off in style

Delighted though I was by the results and outcome, and without the desire to piss on anyone's chips, the one undeniable fact about both games is obviously just how awful Rangers were. Yet, as I recall, the likes of Hugh Keevins were still convincing themselves that they were still in the hunt. They saw and reported what they wanted to see, based on what they wanted to happen. A less than subtle combination of laziness and incompetence. Plus ca change.

Whilst that is true, and THAT Rangers team wasnt the same level as some of their past teams, looking at their starting line up at Ibrox, it wasnt a team of young boys and diddies.

There was as much exprerience in their line up as ours, and they were certainly being paid a lot more money than our lot.

Didnt we also lose to them in the League Cup their under McCall the year before?

Despite the fact Rangers had been poor all season and finished 3rd the media were all convinced they would be back the next season

Remember Stephen Craigan after one of the games being interviewed and his chat went something along the lines of it's been Rangers this , Rangers that . Rangers will be back next season , derby games are back

This is of course what made it even more enjoying

They undoubtedly had some experienced players but most of these were on a downward curve, careerwise. I cannot think of any of them who went on to bigger and better things after the playoff defeat. Collectively they were a shambles and, always a sign of a poorly coached side, less than the sum of their parts as a team.

I've never heard the adenoidal  Keevins say anything remotely favourable about MFC. He's there to buff up the Ugly Sisters and I've never been convinced his football knowledge extends much beyond their squads.

Scottish football's  churnalists and presstitutes generally constitute the bottom layers of football writers in the UK, with very few exceptions.
