There is absolutely no skill involved there at all. Why is it years ago everyone was pish at football? And why every time the goalie gets the ball does he just punt it away as far and quickly as he can? Are people allowed to come up and punt him?

I thought booting the keeper was pretty much the idea in pre-war football!

Plenty of skill involved - just different ones required. The balls weighed a ton (even more when they got wet), if the laces hit you in the eye you could be blinded and the boots were more suited to working down the pit.

When did refs stop wearing that rig out ? Ive seen pictures of Tiny Wharton refereeing in it in the 60s , maybe later , was it being worn as late as the 70s ?
