Thursday Excitement - Teams/Hopes/Fears

I may be going blind but I can't find a thread in relation to Thursday's game.

The Europa thread seems to be for the away leg.

Anyway, I am quite excited and nervous about the game on Thursday. Craig and Archie did a tremendous job with the team last season and I am positive that the good work will continue into 2010/11.

It will be interesting to see the line-up on Thursday. I imagine there may be some surprises, there will be some new faces and the selection may be based on fitness following the 3 friendlies. I don't think Brown will be afraid to put players on the bench if they haven't proved themselves.

The start of the season (albeit an early one) always fills me with excitement and it's good to go to games without wearing winter jackets, scarves, hats and in my mid-30's - thermal leggings! Last winter was a long cold one and the problems with the pitch didn't make it a pleasant one - Brown worked miracles to keep heads up and results coming.

It will be nice to go to a game possibly in a t-shirt and get a nice pint in the sunshine.

Fingers crossed for a few goals. I'll go for 3-1 to Motherwell.

It is a bit annoying that you need to buy tickets for this in advance. Will the crowd be that large?!

the ticket thing is a UEFA rule............i agree though, its a bit of a pain. Dont think there will be a big support at all.

I'm not as optimistic as you, i think this will be alot tougher than we expect and certainly tougher than the games we had last year.

I'm actually thinking the worst, i think we might struggle - however I do hope I'm wrong. Nice early goal to settle the nerves and get the fans behind the team and i will be happy!!

Am I the only one who thinks this might be a struggle?!

I'm looking foward to it, but would be really up for it if we still had Jutkiewicz, Ruddy and O'Brien! As it is, I'm quite apprehensive. I fear another Mypa-47!!!

Aren't you always though :P

I have a feeling that we are going to beat this team home and away.

I was down at the ticket office on Friday and only 4,000 tickets had been sold :)

Surprises me that. Queue oot the door at the ticket office today and don't think there is many seats left in the DC.

expecting a close game and im nervous about it because i know little of the opposition.

however, i can't see the icelanders stopping sutton in the air.

going for a 3-1 'well win with sutton to score a couple of headers and forbes to continue his scoring run

I'd be surprised if there is much more than 4,000 at the game.

0-0 wouldn't be the worst result in the world. Think we will be in far better shape come the 2nd leg. Main concern is the lack of creativity.

Agreed. Would take 0-0 at the moment but hopeful for more but I have bigger concerns defensively and don't think it was just a flash in the pan that we lost 16 goals in the last 5 games of the season. Given that we have been unable to keep a clean sheet in the friendlies, have lost Ruddy, have essentially the same back four and that Craigan will be another season slower, not conceeding at home would be a real boost.

4000 would be an improvement on Llannelli and Flamurtari (I think?) but would be excellent to see a crowd of 5000+

Prediction 2-2.

4-1 to them. We were rotten on Saturday, and that coupled with them being match fit which we quite frankly are not, I think we are going to be in for a very long night. I don't know why i'm wasting £15 to be honest just to watch us become the laughing stock of Scottish football once again. The 12/1 Skybet are offering on them is far too gernerous as is the 3/1 not to get beat.

If you are talking about Europe mate you couldn't be any wronger. In the last two seasons we have been put out off of Nancy who were one of the best Fench teams in their league at the time and Steau Bucharest who are one of the best teams in the Europa League.Honestly I cant see us being humiliated in this tie and hopefully the team can give us a bit of confidence on Thursday for the season ahead.

The line has been cast........................

No way. First European game in their clubs history, play in a worse league than our own, and away from home to a team that has a good bit of Euro experience from last year to start. They might turn out to be a decent, fit, organised team but nae way will we get gubbed.

Are they 12/1 to win on Thursday? Surely no.

They weren't though were they? What they were though was streets ahead of us, something that Breidablik won't be.

Looks like this will be a tough match against a strong, fit, well organised side. They are top of the Icelandic league and seem to have no problem finding the net.

As for us, we seem to be a good few games away from proper match fitness.

So taking all things into consideration, a draw looks the most likely outcome.

1-1.

I ment to say the best in the pot that we could have got. There were a lot of better teams in the whole competition I know

Our big disadvantage is lack of match fitness (although I'm sure the team is physically fit). Our big advantage is that Broon and Knox have years of experience planning for International and European ties at the highest level. Something Gannon did not.

Overall, I think we will take a big enough lead from Fir Park to carry us through the the next round.

Last week I wasn't feeling it, maybe because the World Cup was still in full swing.

Now I'm really looking forward to another season following the 'Well.

Got my ticket today, have to agree I can't see us getting much over 4,000 for this one but the section I got my ticket in seemed to be pretty much sold out.

For me everything has to be geared toward getting through into the next round, I don't care if we are crap, I don't care if we scrap past them by a goal on aggregate as long as we get into the next stage you won't hear any complaint from me.

In fact I'd rather we were dismal and win 1-0 than play brilliantly and finish 0-0 or 1-1 or something.

Next round is the target - by hook or by crook.

I am getting seriously worried (Im a Breiðablik fan). Now the reality is setting in, the fact that we are playing one of the best teams in Scotland is something that Icelandic teams should fear. I know I have made alot of statements regarding my team but I honestly think we will get beat by at least 3 goals on Thursday. I am not playing mindgames, just have a feeling that the the supperior skill, passing ablities and football ability will prove too much for us.

Indeed. I smell shite too! It's an angle I use too when we are about to face one of the Old Firm and I'm speaking to one of the unwashed hordes.

Let them think they are in for an easy time and then it makes you look all the better when you get the result.

Nice try Bliki!!
