You've nailed it sir. McGinn will be 36 by the time he recovers and you have to ask what his future contribution will be. By the time he comes back in, we will likely have a new established central defence. A bit part player at best? Its really sad as he's been great for us and deserves to go out on a high, but we have to be realistic. Hendry? His signing baffled me at the time, even moreso now. His style never suited us as he was more of a Curtis Main type; a foil for someone else and not a goalscorer. A square peg in around hole if you will. Then we have his seemingly serious injury record and yet again he's out. When did this latest injury occur? I can see both players being passengers to greater or lesser degrees this term. As for central defence - time is not on our side. Hopefully Nick Daws identified targets many months ago.

I certainly overlooked him, largely because of his subtle and sensitive playing style and I know others who did also. An easy player to overlook. I'll put it on record here though that he deserves a higher profile. Much of the great work he did was quiet and subtle and easy to miss. A small flick here or a seemingly innocuous pass there that led to goals often scored by someone else. A great player.

I very rarely hear him mentioned while others like Coyne, Pettigrew, Cooper, McAllister, Faddy, Miller etc. are often discussed.
-
Not any Motherwell fans I know.

Russell often surprisingly overlooked by Motherwell fans, but was a great player for us - and even better when he was reunited with Cooper.
-
Jens wasn't our preferred choice last summer either so if that is the case this time I wouldn't get too bothered about it.
-
Very interesting. There are rumours from reliable sources that JBA had informed the Board quite a few weeks/months ago that he was moving on at the end of the season. Now if they are indeed true, it seems odd that we took so long to make an appointment. Like you I'm beginning to suspect that our preferred choice didn't come to fruition. Anyway, good luck to AJ.

Announced at Gillingham, I'd consider that further east at least.
-
Good luck to the new manager. He obviously has an incredibly hard act to follow but the foundations and budget should be there to give him the best possible chance of succeeding. interesting that discussions only commenced 10 days or so ago and the appointment was in the balance until earlier this week. I had hoped that behind the scenes we knew who our preferred choice was a few weeks ago. Maybe we did and that appointment didn’t come to fruition. Sounds like Alfred hasn’t watched videos of us until this week so he’s going to do well to hit the ground running. Hopefully there are two or three signings for him to rubber stamp before we head to Denmark.
-
Yes, I’d include Russel in that group.

Everyone's in the same boat when it comes to the window. My 10 week calculation was correct though, and that's the most important thing here 😎
-
100%. Our first Euro tie is just about 5 weeks away. Despite some comments on social media to the contrary, we have quite a few vacancies to fill especially in central defence.
-
Yes, that’s how long the window stays open but looking at our situation and when we start playing games, we don’t have the luxury of waiting 10 weeks but maybe we might have to in order to get who we want.
-
Transfer window closes on 1st of September. That's about 10 weeks from now, no?

Different Liam Gordon at Port Val.le. Suggestions ours is off to the Far East

Plenty of people enjoy it, and I have no problem with that. I've always preferred a keeping the ball on the deck style, and players with a pass in them, but it would be a boring game if every team played the same way or fans all had the same tastes.
-
Robbos team were industrial, aggressive, up-and-at-them...it wasn't sexy but I enjoyed watching it for completely different reasons that I enjoyed watching JBAs team
-
Does any team ever have a fully fit squad. With the schedules and the high intensity of the game these days there are always injuries. Even with "load balancing".
-
Luckily we have a new manager a few quid in the bank and 10 weeks to bring in some new players.
-
Hendry confirmed out injured again. He’s turned out to be an absolute waste of a signing. With McGinn out too, and Welsh and Gordon gone, we’re very short at centre-back. And let’s not even get started on Stama. He’s another busted flush.
-
When was the last time we had a fully fit squad? McGinn out for months at his age cant be good. Could be the end of his career. Hendry injured again for months. Robinson mk2. Total waste of money. Guess we are stuck with him. So we now need a new center of defence. Guys with pace, can pass a ball and do the defensive side of game would be nice. Need them into pronto with europe game in comming soon. New recruits urgently needed.
-
Not good about McGinn out for months we shall need to strengthen the back line more than I thought we would.
