Exactly. In the last ten years we’ve seen us lose every possible way to them. 7-0, numerous 4-0 losses, two cup final defeats without laying a glove on them. Then all the last minute sickeners. 2-0 then 3-2 up only to lose 4-3 with the last kick of the ball. We score a last minute equaliser and they run straight up the park and score again. 2-1 up at Parkhead a few months back and relatively comfortable, lose 3-2 in the dying minutes. Even the one and only time we came close to beating them in the last decade we were denied by a dodgy late penalty for them to sneak a 1-1 draw. Last night was a long time coming and I will certainly dine out on it for a long time to come:

Seriously???? I've lived every bloody day of those 10 years, 35 games , 30 losses, thinking Id never live long enough to ever see us beat them again. For me its felt like an eternity , like a never ending prison sentence.
-
This is the kind of game we need to win to keep up our push in the top 4.

Great night last night but one ‘downside’ is I made the mistake of tuning into Off the Ball on Radio Scotland after the game. Tam Cowan couldn’t even let himself or the listeners enjoy the result without the age old nonsense about “we’ll be lucky to keep JBA to the end of the season, we’re only a wee club, much bigger clubs will be looking at our manager and our players” and so on. Lighten up ffs. I’ve no doubt of Tam’s love for the club but he is one of the biggest culprits of this “we’re only a wee diddy team punching way above our weight” especially seeing as he’s probably the most high profile Motherwell fan out there certainly the one with the biggest platform. That sort of nonsense is why we went more than a decade without beating Celtic as it drips into the club and numerous players, managers and staff buy into it. Fortunately Jens simply focusses on us as a team and doesn’t get caught up in the cliched tiresome rhetoric that so many before him have done so. And Tam Cowan really isn’t funny. His patter is pretty shite imo.
-
Quite. The only thing I was surprised about was hearing it's 10 years since we last beat them, really didn't feel that long.

numpty started following Motherwell v St Mirren 03/01/2026
-
The manager is absolutely brilliant in everything he does, what an appointment he's turned out to be and it just shows you don't need to be part of the managerial merry go round in scotland and need someone that knows the league etc,you just need a guy that knows what there doing and Jen's has that for sure,it also highlights how duffers like kettlewell are conning a living out the game.

Going on previous seasons, we are safe now
-
If we can get a striker in that can actually score, why not
-
Any kind of win will be very much appreciated. St Mirren got the better of us in the semifinal but we would be foolish to get wrapped up in any thought of revenge. We simply have to concentrate on finding a way to beat them for our own benefit now. The past is in the past and there is nothing we can do about it beyond learning from it and using that knowledge to our advantage. They will undoubtedly have a plan for us on Saturday and should prepare accordingly. I am confident that JBA will be ready both with a gameplan and a few ideas to mix things up should they be required. Here's hoping we can start 2026 with another win to keep the feel-good feeling going. I think we can do it, though it will undoubtedly be hard fought.
-
If say that they'd have to fight to get back into a winning team, but we know fine well that JBA is making 5 changes on Saturday. 😄
-
Only 7 points from safety! 🧡❤️🧡
-
If we can stay close enough to be one of the official chasers, it's going to be a fun second half of the season. Close to zero chance of winning the league, but I'm going to predict we don't finish in a relegation spot.
-
Great to have a difficult decision picking the Motm they are all playing great football, I went for Just..
-
The manager
-
Welsh and JT back. And we owe them. We are pumping them. 3-0 Motherwell.
-
Really difficult to pick tonight as every single player gave everything. However, Just was my pick for his workrate, energy and pure nuisance value. Celtic didnt know what to do with him at all. It was no surprise when our performance dripped off a bit after his substitution, albeit we were trying ro close the game out at the time.

Another home win for the Steelmen against the Buddies ? COYW
-
Absolutely magnificent game tonight. We absolutely bossed that for about 80 minutes. I dont think Ive ever seen that against either of the big two in 57 years. The energy, determination and tenacity of the team to get after Celtic and not give them a minute, was immense. They JUST couldnt handle us, or him! This team/squad/manager has something. We might not win the league. But we ARE in the conversation and we should be looking at the Scottish Cup as a viable target. In Jens we trust!

The gaffer
-
How disrespectful to call him out in public like that. Ian McCall is going ro be all over that. 😄 Iy must be shite for wee Callum not getting to be the flat track bully every week.
-
Probably not. But we are in the conversation, and if we cant win it, we can definitely be a determining factor on who does. We should definitely be targeting the Scottish Cup though. This team is definitely good enough to win that.
-
We've only lost 2 out of 6 against the Top 3 and we should have won at Tynecastle and got a point at least at Celtic Park and Ibrox. That says to me we are absolutely as good as them in one to ones. What we need to do is win games like the one coming up which I kind of alluded to in my original post. The best Motherwell team I've ever seen should have won the league but lost to lowly Dundee Utd and St. Johnstone sides. That's the tricky part rather than the big games when you challenge for a league. It's likely the 'top' teams will drop a lot of points in the run in as there genuinely isn't a gap between the Old Firm and the others now so it's down to us to keep up our performances and form going and you never know. We are further back that the Top 3 so we are probably going to have to beat the Old Firm and Hearts a couple more times this season to have a chance but this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. Motherwell are a club who will always struggle to keep talent and I don't expect that to change but this season everything is in place. The stars are aligned. It's there so why not go for it? Right now though we just have to get the heads down, keep the performances up and tick off the games. Let's get into February/March and see where we are.
-
Agreed. He made a few mistakes earlier in the season, but I can see why JBA stuck with him as he has really grown into this system. He looks very confident and assured now.

Interesting Jens mentioned nullifying McGregor post match. Tactically spot on and credit to the players Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
