It hasn't dragged on, though. It's barely started.
-
The longer this drags on the more worried/convinced I’m becoming that it’ll be Richard Foster.
-
Nah I’m not convinced of that. You tend to find that the people who buy the kits will buy them regardless of what they look like and those who don’t, won’t buy them. I genuinely don’t think that chopping and changing the design and template of the kit makes much difference to sales, or any difference atall.
-
The answer as always nowadays is …..money.

Here’s another video of the new kit I am looking forward to the away kit

The argument of experimenting or “something a wee bit different” with kits is something I’ve never really got. It’s just my own view but why not keep the “wee bit different” to our training/leisurewear? That way the people who are going to buy the cheaper training/leisurewear (and there are plenty who do, myself included) have that top to wear for five-a-sides/going to the shops/lying on the couch scratching their baws or whatever. But at the same time keep the kit that the players representing the club on the park are wearing as a kit which is traditional and easily recognisable as a Motherwell FC kit?

I think it was that the sponsorship deal wasn't in place. Similar to more recently before paycare was secured the strip was available to buy. Side rambling, but I came across a sponsoless home strip for sale on Ebay a while back that I genuinely didn't recognise - it was the 16/17 home strip, which is an absolute belter without the sponsor (motorpoint). Wishing I'd bought it now 😒
-
I am in this minority, while I think our band round the front , and sometimes back is iconic and part of tradition I don't think there is anything wrong with making it look a little bit different from time to time. Biggest thing for me is we always maintain the Claret and Amber One of my favourite kits in recent seasons was the 22-23 home kit , and I know at the time there was plenty of others who didn't like it
-
It could be a discussion with the sponsor though about size and placement. Agree with point that overall the financials will drive whether it is worth a sponsor free option but some replica strips being sold are iconic because of sponsor association with that season. Tbf I don’t see G4Claims being the same as Sharp/Brother/Carlsberg/Jeep/Pirelli/Ian Skelly etc are in a few years but if we win the cup in 2026 who knows.
-
I too am in this minority. David made the point that we have a distinctive colour palette and that gives us the freedom to experiment more and still be Motherwell. If the Newcastles, Notts County’s, Grimsbys, St. Mirrens Juventus etc of the world were so happy with their “traditional” B&W stripes they wouldn’t be constantly changing their number, width, pattern, and colours of trim.

The Puma home shirt from 2010/11 was available to buy sponsorless at release - but can't remember if that was due to the Commsworld deal not being in place at the time it came out or not.

Nobody is getting uptight we are discussing a valid topic that has annoyed people for years. It should be an individual choice whether you want to be an unpaid advertiser for some random company or product. As has been mentioned in previous posts possibly charging a premium for the logo free shirts might be an option, then its an individuals choice to buy it or not. I'm sure the club could sell logo free kit directly outwith any shirt sponsohip deals, we've done it before with the white tops a few seasons ago, nothing is impossible.
-
Well saying it's the close season if folks are getting uptight about sponsor logo on the shirt...the clue is in the name, " replica shirt" , it's supposed to look like players top.
-
Sorry but a sponsor is a sponsor and considering we need every penny we can get sponsor free shirt from the off is a non starter we were paid handsomely by a bookmaker for that luxury last time. However I do think an extra fiver say for a sponsor free shirt should be an option that the club should look in too maybe.
-
At a time when we are looking for more ideas to generate income, intentionally removing a chunk of our revenue stream doesn't seem like good business. I'd also be curious to know how many fans in the shirt buying population want a sponsorless option because I'd imagine that, kids being kids, most of them want a kit that looks exactly like the one the players are wearing' sponsor and all. I'm not against it, but I'd need to see a breakdown of the financials before I was in favour of it. One thing is for sure, and that's you won't make the up the gap in revenue by upping their price.

We are a fan owned club allegedly its maybe time that the WS got involved in a real topic of interest to the supporters and see what can be done re selling sponsor free replica kit.

I must be in the minority of the people that like the experimental approach towards Motherwell's kits. If the fans are forking out money every year for a strip i'd rather it looked a bit different to the previous season and you never know, it might be considered an iconic kit in 50 years time... I do agree with having a sponsorless option too. It seems like a lot of clubs offer this option, but obviously not of our stature.
