Playing right backs as central defenders is as productive as playing goalies as number 10s.
-
Those wishing us to sign another central defender when we have five players on the books who can play there (actually six as probably Koutroumbis could do a turn there). Whether you rate O'Donnell, McGinn, Balmer and McGhee there (or Gordon for that matter), unless you can shift one of them off the books bringing another one in risks the kind of large unwieldy squad we had last season...
-
Yep! Definitely need at least 1 solid centre back to go with Gordon and perhaps another for back up. My take on McGhee was that he would be a defensive midfielder, not part of a back 3 or 4. Could put McGinn there at a push but would rather keep him for right full back to fight it out with Koutroumbis for starting position. Or switching them out during games to keep up the energy level needed for an overlapping full back.
-
It's on twitter - Ben Banks I'm sure. Also on Glasgow world - also Ben Banks
-
Not sure I would want McGhee at CB. When announced his pre contract I started viewing Dee line ups and during their horrendous spell of goals lost he was apparently in that position. Back 3 or 4 we need a new partner for Gordon.

Just reading about that but can’t seem to post a link
-
That also rules out Strathclyde Park.
-
We are apparently looking at Crystal Palaces Ola - Adebomi
-
I don’t think we own where we train but lease it - or we did a few years ago. I’m sure there was talk before Covid of building on the fields across from where we train now but I sceptical about that as in bad weather it’s always flooded.
-
The training facilities have been brought up by the club on multiple occasions, and I'm sure there was a project at Muirhouse that fell through in recent years. When you look at what other clubs have, we're way behind in that regard. My assumption is that we'd look to develop something at the location we currently use.
-
I agree. I would like us to stay at Fir Park - just not sure where the new playing facilities would be - assume maybe the club would need to get permission from the council to build Just having this discussion with my brother and he said the biggest issue is the main stand and the drain on resources
-
Fans may have suggested it but the club have not. I would say we are staying here. Three good stands , one old one and a belter of a playing surface v start from scratch in a soulless new one, somewhere. Staying for the foreseeable. Build facilities some where cheap from scratch.
-
If its a good thing for the club - fine. I just don't see the club investing any money we get from Miller in new facilities.
-
Think the issue is where would we build the new facilities particularly if we aren't going to be staying at Fir Park in the long term which is what some fans have suggested
-
If we play a 4 at the back you are probably right in that we dont really need any extra defenders. If we want to play 3 we probably need one thats better than Balmer to ensure he remains a squad player. We probably want that flexibility as it would also allow us to deploy McGhee elsewhere if required. My reading of Fadinger is that he is more of a Spittal type replacement than Miller. With him and Slattery (if we can keep him) together with Wells, Ross and Sparrow we appear to have some decent attacking mid options. Still need the Miller replacement and if we can get Sylla that would be grand.
-
Fadinger sounded like a Miller replacement, but even if he is, we could do with 2 players that can fill that role.
-
If the new manager does opt for a 4-3-3, I wonder if the plan is to move forward with McGhee and Gordon as the first-choice CB pairing, with Koutroumbis or McGinn at RB and Wilson at LB. The latter two certainly aren’t wing-backs, but a traditional back four would likely suit them well. We’ve also got SOD and Balmer for cover. That formation gives us scope to bring in a few more players in the wide and central attacking roles, as well as an obvious replacement for Miller. Maybe that’s Fadinger? Anything else?
-
Like most players who leave us for a team in the same division, I hope they do well and I hope their team always finishes behind us. Here's hoping we can rebuild a less leaky central defence now.
-
Until you've paid all the necessary tariffs, try this one
-
I don’t see an image in either of those last two posts
-
I thought I read he prefers 4-3-3? So I would imagine he’ll look at what he has and see what he needs and determine our chances of getting the right players in to make that work.

I liked Blaney. Decent footballer. But positional sense not good enough and prone to the odd howler. Probably too nice to be a defender in the SPL. Wish him well. Just not too well......
-
Whoops! Sorry pal
-
Shane Blaney signed for Livi.
-
Fire in. Talented enough footballer, but doesnt have the physical attributes required to be successful in the top league in Scotland (imho).
