The management position at Motherwell is always important. But so is a strong Executive Board. They are the ones who do the hiring and firing and they are the ones who have to sign off on the cheques any new manager wants to spend. I want to see a young progressive manager who wants to play football on the front foot and who has the ability to develop our young players and get them into the first team. If they can identify some (relative) quality into the side to improve our level of performance and ensure our squad players remain just that, all the better. But Id also like the Executive board to reign in the manager when required and stop throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. We have wasted some amount of money in recent seasons on players who contribute nothing but still pick up a wage. That needs to stop and that will determine whether we are better than Killie, Falkirk, Livingston et al at the end of next season.

It’d be nice to get the management position sorted in the next few days and the name mark jackson has come up who by all accounts looks very capable. im a bit more cool about the situation now knowing dundee have Pressley. I think that’s assigning Dundee to the root of the table for the season. I have a feeling Dundee Utd will struggle this year too.

The most important part of this appointment is getting someone who can be trusted to spend their cut of the Miller millions wisely and not hand it over to a complete tit like McLeish and Davies as we did previously.
-
I get that, but only up to a point. Its not unreasonable for it to see out or finalise previously agreed deals but it shouldn't be an autonomous entity. Surely the manager will have the overall say as to what positions need to be prioritised and which players signed? I doubt any new manager coming in will want to be told that the recruitment department decided that we need positions a, b and c filled by certain individuals and these are being signed. The new man will want to stamp his own authority on the squad and bring in his own players surely? As for coaching, the current team can keep things ticking over, but any new manager will want to get to know his squad and instill his own ideas and methods. We don't want to rush the decision and bring in the wrong man, but by the same token he'll need time to get to know the players he's going to have to manage.

Correct, in my defence I wrote that last night while slightly drunk 🥴

It's nowhere near the most important appointment post admin. The Wimmer appointment itself was much more important. The Kettlewell and Alexander appointments also. You could also add Craig Brown and Mark McGhee 1.0 to that list off the top of my head. Baraclough as well, probably. Livi and Falkirk being in the league should give us a fair bit of breathing space to the bottom of the league. Dundee deciding to become a basket case again after a couple of relatively quiet seasons, Killie replacing McInnes with SK and St Mirren potentially losing Robbo should make the season even more comfortable. We'd have to genuinely have one of our worst seasons ever (not one of the kid on ones everyone has claimed we've had for the last 15 years) to finish below 2 of that lot.

Out: Bob Park In: Common sense

To be fair, we've been linked to 3 players so far (unless im missing someone), and 2 have signed already. Scott Burns broke the sylla story, and he's usually spot on. Still, it's only just talks so that doesn't mean he'll sign. As for the Miller to to OF stories, utter made up shite.

It’s well seen it’s the close season because I’ve never read so much sh*te about players we are ‘rumoured to be talking to’ and which of the two OF Lennon Miller will end up with.

This management appointment is possibly the most important one post administration and I don’t envy the boards task. Ignoring the arse cheeks at least Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee and Dundee Utd will all out spend us this season on player purchase and wages leaving us - potentially (if money equates to a better position, which we all know doesn’t always happen but could) - fighting it out with St.Mirren, Killie, Falkirk and Livingston to avoid the bottom 2 spots. Although we will have money from LM’s transfer I don’t think we will see much of that being reinvested in players as long term projects like a training ground will eat into that. So that leaves us with two options, a hopefully safe option with someone who knows the Scottish game and can grind out another season in the top flight or another Wimmer type more risky option which hopefully lifts us to a higher level. Neither option is a stick on to succeed and could etch the boards names in Motherwell’s history as the board that got us relegated/took us to the Great Leap Forward - no pressure at all then.

Where's Oor Graeme for a quick recap, so that we can compare the two?
-
Wiki entry says hes married to a lassie from Wishaw and stays in Hamilton so no worry about him being away from his family lol

We have a recruitment department that gives us continuity in these situations, and this is the way most teams are going these days. The same goes for our coaching team, who can more than handle the start of pre-season. I don't see that being an issue though as were still under the amount of time it took to get wimmer.

The transfer window's closed right now and doesn't re-open until the 16th - thanks to the finagling of a short, early window to allow the World Club Cup teams to buy even more players before kickoff. Regardless, I'll be much happier to get a good manager at the end of June than an average one on Friday. We're in this for the long haul. If we're talking to currently employed managers (which our CEO hinted at), or bringing in someone who needs a work permit, that takes even longer.
-
So our new gaffer is French?
-
Yeah we do need a new manager ASAP but don't think the transfer window opens again until tomorrow - someone can correct me if I'm wrong
-
That sylla would be a definite upgrade on davor.

The players aren't in the building for another week and the first week will all be fitness related anyway. Like realistically as long as we have a manager in before the Netherlands training camp they'll have plenty of time to work with the players before the league cup group games and the season starting. We also have a squad of 20 senior players at the moment so I only expect us to add 4/5 more.
-
A good defensive midfielder who puts himself about. Popular in Dundee. Not everyone's Cup of tea though.
-
Thought he resigned with Liverpool recently.
-
I'd take him been crying out for a proper holding midfielder for years.
-
Aye I bet he did.
-
We really need to get this sorted, our 1st competitive game is in just over 4 weeks, ans so far we only have two new faces in McGhee and Fadinger.
-
It doesn't

If that mentions a recommendation from Ange anywhere I'll pass. He recommended signing Danzaki.
